Former Town Right-Back Carroll Dies
That is sad, he was a good RB in the 1967/68 promotion winning side and the only ever present starter in the top division in 1969/70.
Club Patron Hope-Cobbold Dies
RIP I never actually spoke to the gentleman but he always seemed so cheerful at shareholders meetings and such like. He seemed to be such a nice and sincere man.
My Best Town XI: Bryan Hamilton Part One
A very good team but not sure where Bryan gets the idea that Allan Hunter was a midfielder when he arrived here because he was already capped by Northern Ireland at centre half.
I don't know if he was ever a midfielder but certainly not when we got him.
Sir Alf Born 100 Years Ago Today
A great manager for Ipswich Town who, along with his players, gave a then eleven year old me one of the greatest days of my life on 28th April 1962.
RIP Sir Alf.
Blues' First Black Player Stacey Publishes Autobiography
Steve Stacey was the first black player to play in an ITFC first team but Johnny Miller was already a professional footballer on our books two months before Steve Stacey joined us.
It was the best part of another two years before Johnny Miller played in the first team but it could be argued that HE was our first black player.
To the best of my knowledge there were no others before Miller but there might have been.
Legend Beattie Died a Year Ago Today
The Beat is sadly missed, particularly by those of us lucky enough to have seen his all too brief career.
A true footballing great who probably never realised just how good he was.
Thank you for the memories.
Harrison's Pompey Move Confirmed
Good luck to him.
I thought that taking into account the amount of time each of them spent on the pitch that he looked the best of Hurst's signings last season, not great but the best of a pretty poor bunch.
