Scousers getting humiliated at Anfield.
at 20:58 12 Apr 2024

That I have no issue with at all, disliking a fanbase because of personal experiences is entirely understandable (for reasons not dissimilar I have a continued dislike of Birmingham fans).

It’s just the use of the always the victim trope that is (in my opinion) wrong and offensive given its connotation to Hillsborough.

Horrific events, I would condone everyone and anyone who’s actions contributed to that, no ifs, no buts.

It is possible to criticise and empathise with a group of people for different events on different occasions.

The trope “always the victim” is associated with Hillsborough. It’s been tested in a court (see link in thread) and was widely used after the event at Liverpool matches by rival fans in chants to mock the Liverpool fans who were fighting for justice. Those are the facts, some people may not intend it in that way but ignorance is no defence. It’s not about defending scousers for everything, it’s about challenging crap behavior and language over the most horrific event and subsequent injustice in football history. If people cannot understand that or choose not to consider how that phrase is perceived then it demonstrates what type of person they are

Absolutely fine to mock and laugh at other team’s misfortunes and misdemeanors of course. It was just a couple of dense posters using and condoning the “always the victim trope” that caused things to go off a tangent. In some ways it’s nice that the ignorant identity themselves so readily

It’s not forgetting Heysel. It’s having the intelligence and empathy to consider and respond to them both separately and appropriately.

The “always the victim” is a slur on them started by the Police and the Sun and used by opposition fans and general public as something to bait them with ever since. Anyone using it is ignorant and thick, anyone justifying its use is just as culpable

Absolute rubbish. Their fans had to campaign for decades to get justice for the 96 which included overcoming the media and wider population smears that perpetuated for decades.

They haven’t (at least as far as I’m aware?) done the same for Heysel whatsoever

Anyone using the “always the victims” line (or chants which were common in games from opposition for fans) is mocking them for Hillsborough and to claim otherwise is a deflection at best but in all probability a lie to try and justify the users ongoing ignorance and prejudice.

No true and genuine football fan should ever use that line. To be clear that’s not to say Liverpool fans (or any other supporters from different teams) can’t be called out for things that have some or to be challenged on things that are said but that line is crass, ignorant and insulting to those impacted by the worst tragedy in UK footballing history

How many Palestinian lives is sufficient?

I watched in shock and dismay at her rant. I wasn’t familiar with who she was prior to the program and was horrified that she was basically allowed to rant without recourse. The SNP chap was actually pretty dignified in response to her accusations.

Just consider your response if someone made a snipe at you on the thread about how scary things are for Jews around the world. I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t welcome that and would be reporting to admin.

You are being as provocative as others are around an issue that is very nuanced and divisive but the net result is innocent people have been killed and continue to be killed which any reasonable person should wish to cease without descending in by childish point scoring.

It’s pathetic and beneath anyone with an ounce of human decency. And I would offer that comment to each and everyone poster who is engaging in that about this horrific and barbaric conflict (from both sides).

How low can Sunak go?

They aren’t all the same despite that effectively will be what the Tory press go with as their election strategy

See below link for a clear difference between Starmer and Sunak on a personal level.

What you said is insulting to the vast majority of the UK and London population by suggesting that this country is even remotely comparable to the most evil and horrific acts of the Nazis. Tarring an entire city or country for the actions of a relatively small % of subhuman scum risks you becoming part of divisions that exacerbate problems.

There is only so long you can hang on to a Bone in adverse circumstances.

Now his head is hanging in shame let’s hope the Tories get some stiffer opposition in the near future

It’s neither really.

He’s a genuine Colchester lad (Stanway specifically) that was with Colchester for a long time and his Dad is a Colchester fan. Sammie was a fan favourite and said a few bits when he was breaking through that played to the anti-Ipswich thing but nothing in any formal interviews (that I’m aware of).

He’s a down to earth lad with a young family who’s wider family is still in and around Colchester. If he feels his career would benefit from being at Ipswich (and that looks to be the case with a shot at the Prem being realistic) If he was offered a decent contract with town he’d jump at it I think.

If it wasn’t of interest the talk would have been shut down by now..

I neither love or hate it to be honest but it’s a program my wife and kids like so one of the few programs we actually sit and watch together. It’s inoffensive (to me at least) and can be occasionally funny and also irritating.

Wouldn’t be my first choice but don’t see why it being popular winds up other people so much

Ooh I’m flattered you’ve noticed my previous posts, unfortunately I can’t reciprocate as I don’t recall anything you’ve posted before

Happy be corrected on the nuances of your posts on this thread but sentiment is still odd that you choose to share how you don’t like a program (or programs ) on a thread about a program you don’t like or watch.

I just don’t understand why people feel the need to share with others how they don’t like something when a thread is clearly for those who do. Just screams a bit of “look at me being all contrary”. Maybe that’s unfair, just feels a bit strange

So you’ve gone from telling us you’ve only ever watched it once for 5 minutes to you switched off after 1 minute in consecutive posts on a thread about a programme you clearly don’t like but somehow felt the need to post twice to show just how “not-interested” you are?

A very quick search revealed an average of at least 10m watch the final for last 3 years at least so a fairly significant amount of the population and, unless you are a statistical or demographical anomaly, many people who you know.

It’s also a bit odd that considering you clearly don’t think it’s for you, you happened to watch a trailer (fair enough) and the saw this thread ( again fair enough) but decided it needed your input to articulate you’ve never heard of the people taking part in the series.

For someone not interested in it puzzled why you thought it necessary to contribute on a thread about it?

Why are we still backing this?
at 13:59 1 Nov 2023

Thank you for your answer.

So a ceasefire (and on a purely humanitarian basis that is something I should suspect most people could understand if not support)

But I am curious as to what you might think is an acceptable response from Israel to what Hamas did recently. If they had a ceasefire now would you think they could do as an alternative? I genuinely don’t know what is right or wrong by the way but, I get the sense that most people calling for a ceasefire see that as a pathway to peace presumably only if Israel don’t take further military action. I don’t think that’s likely or going to be palatable to those outraged by the butchery of Hamas is it? (And effectively it would somewhat legitimize their tactics to get at least part of their ideological goals)

I may well be missing something key in my oversimplification!

What do you think the plan should be?

What do you think would be an appropriate response from Israel to the Hamas attack in Oct?

I don’t have any answers to such a complex situation, I think I’m barely capable of identifying the right questions to ask but for people to discuss (or debate) things it would perhaps be helpful for those who feel better qualified or with more knowledge to offer their views on solutions or resolutions.

Pathetic post, it’s not “the lot of them” it’s definitely too many, perhaps a large minority, but it’s not all of them.
