Defence split open too often so go 5 at back and play defensive until attacking players found that can create and score, other than set piece headers. If you look back us, Peterborough and Sheff Weds were looking doomed. Now you cannot say anyone is as it is so close. Changes of management have worked so you then look at weaknesses and goals scored is ours, less than anyone even with 4 against Middlesborough. Goal difference is also weaker than everyone else. What seems to be missing is creativity with goals from midfield. It is going to be very tight for weeks to come. |

Is this a long term appointment? Need 43 points from 33 games and the majority of the teams at the bottom are now playing at that level so catching them means a real run of wins, not just 4 or 5. the squad does not have goals or defensive nouse to achieve that and waiting till January will be too late. So is MM going to be here through 2 or 3 years in Div 1 rebuilding? Anyone see Sheff Utd v Pompey? They would be tough opponents right now. |

So to sum up, McCarthy is a failure on lots of levels and at lots of places, Holloway is ignorant and unmanageable (see his history) and listenm to him talk, Curbishley is n o fool but thinks he is worth a bigger job in his own world, Megson has done failrly well but see Holooway for personal problems, Burley has been looking for the Holy Grail since we sacked him and not found it (remember Scotland role?) Coyle is as big a no as McCarthy for similar reasons, successa t one club then failure elsewhere. Sidekicks to other managers eg Kevin Bond are a gamble too far?
That leaves a manager who will come from a smaller club and use us as a stepping stone to the premiership job they deserve.
Not looking good to me at the moment. |

Players are in the main simple souls who need leadership and instruction. Without it and some self discipline the whole team dynamic goes and the end result is what we see at Ipswich. Players are at fault if they do not use their collective brains to see if something is not working but no coaching or inadequate coaching will always bring a team down. Hutchings gets one game max or the new man will have 30 odd games to get 45 points and that will be tough. |

It was never going to work was it? Simon Milton made a valid comment though about what can happen if a manager is successful at one club and then not always able to carry it into a new job. Picking a new manager is a minefield for the person making the decision. |

What do successful clubs have? A good coach. The players can be improved or adapt to tactical changes. We have enough players to do a job but with no coaching ability they will continue as they are. If we bring someone in to play for us can they actually be first choice at their clubs not players who have failed there first? |

I watched the game on Sky, was going until I realised the time switch for tv. Thank God i didnt. It was a poor game played out by a team with little confidence and a team that thought it would lose again to its bogey side. Cardiff were dire in the first half and could only get better. The ref gave us a start which we never looked like getting and when Cardiff woke up in the second half and we made the usual game changing substitutions (for the worse as usual) we fell away. Loach was never the standard of keeper we need and young players like Cresswell getting battered every week will lose form and confidence. Most of the players we accumulate are not wanted by their clubs, so how can they change to world beaters coming to us with little tactics and a failed coaching staff. It is the coaching that will save us and that is not coming from the current shower. |
