Great piece :) Needs a little phrase somewhere to connect the intro to the second par, I thought, but otherwise beautifully constructed, clever and funny :) |

I work for the in-stadium filming at Portman Road, next to the BBC cameraman. It wasn't a case of our missing the Colback-Byrne incident - it took place well off the ball and we are paid to follow the ball, as that's usually where the action is. Both we and the BBC caught the moment after the incident (Colback had just hit the ground) on the far right of our wide shots. When it happened to ball was in the air near the SBR Stand. So, yes, there wasn't enough for evidence - but it wasn't our fault. FYI, I can tell you David Wright said at his press conference that evening that he understood Jack had run into Byrne (meanwhile, a Scunthorpe journalist told me he'd seen Byrne purposely elbow Colback). Wright also said the ref sent off Delaney because Scunny players said he'd gone in two-footed and the ref agreed (obviously not true - DD stayed on his feet - and later justice was done). |
