McCarthy Not Currently Targeting Further Additions or Looking to Send Youngsters Out on Loan
at 21:37:47

If we are going to play 5 at the back, i would say we're most definitely a centre back short & if we are thinking of going 4-4-2 i would say we're a wide player short.

Given Mcgoldrick's track record with injuries we could also be a frontman light.

So i would expect us to bring in at least a couple more before the window closes.

McCarthy: Preston Don't Want to Sell Hugill
at 17:07:52

Was it not obvious that Hugill would not be for sale at £2Mil, I assumed as we kept bidding for him the club knew something we didn't & a deal could be done.

If Hugill was our number 1 target we should have found out a the start of Jan whether they were likely to sell for our valuation, if not move onto the next target and so on.

It just seems a complete mess, if we don't end up signing players for fees, it just gives Mick the same excuse when we're not performing that he hasn't had any money. Then ME won't sack him because he hasn't had no money to spend.

5 months after we sold Murph & still no nearer to landing a replacement with 1 day of the transfer window left.

Second Hugill Bid Turned Down
at 17:14:08

I think the timing of the second bid isn't ideal, right before we play them, Of course they'll reject as it would give us a psychological edge even if we agreed not to play him. Now if we go back for him it'll have to be at least £2.5 Million.

It may seem a lot of money but 2.5-3 Million isn't a lot of money for a championship striker, if we think he's the right one, go & get him, don't settle for the cheaper option.

Town Among Clubs Linked With Scunthorpe Winger
at 13:06:55

Exactly the sort of player we should be going for, we're far better going for the best players in league 1 or 2 than getting Premiership/championship players no one else wants. Expect he would cost a decent 7 figure sum having bagged 18 goals this season!

Town Targeting Former Newcastle Defender Taylor
at 13:36:18

I Don't get the negativity we've just lost our centre back for the season a were bringing in an experienced premier league player who has 3 or 4 seasons ahead of him, who also is a natural leader. With Berra talking about going back to Scotland, he would be the ideal replacement.

Berra Linked With Town Exit and Return to Hearts
at 17:15:59

Am i reading this right, we're going to pay the remainder of a contract of a first team regular so he can have his move to Scotland who will then pay his wages again. If that's the case it absolute madness, if anything we should be asking for a fee from Hearts, Apologies if ive misunderstood but we do seem to have a history of paying people off, usually it's because they're surplus to requirements!

Town Linked With Rebuffed Bid for Preston Striker
at 07:37:27

Good to se us bidding for players, but did they really think that Preston would sell one of there best players who is only 24 for that sum in January. We either need to go down the leagues or wait for an unwanted PL player in our budget to come available which seems unlikely. I suspect we'll just end up with another loan & Milne will come out & tell us we made bids for several players that all got rejected. The fact is we can't compete with other teams with our budget, i know we did but there is a lot more money in this league since then.

Varney Joins Burton Albion
at 13:12:39

Glad Mick has done this, not that i had anything against Reg but because he's often been accused of keeping/playing players because he likes them even if they're not really good enough.

Hopefully we'll have a new striker by the end of the week.

Town Closing in On Rotherham Striker Ward
at 09:19:09

It would appear a good signing, however are we making the same mistake again in getting a player in who we don't really need. The biggest problem we've had is not having that focal point up top, someone to make the ball stick i.e like for like replacement for Murphy. Haven't seen much of Woodrow but being the age he is & it only being a short term deal he isn't the answer. Just think we're buying who's available rather than what we really need.

Could also do with another centre midfielder, box to box type & another wide player. A right back if Mick doesn't think Emanuel is going to make the grade.

Blues Linked With Former Loanee Tunnicliffe as Clubs Eye Lawrence
at 21:45:15

I'd take Tunnicliffe back, no he's not the creative spark we're loooking for but there is a good player who does hasn't yet fulfilled his potential. Would certainly be an improvement on Douglas, young enough, good eye for a pass & plenty of energy.

Really hope we can keep hold of Lawrence, one of the most gifted players ive seen in a Town shirt in a very long time!

Town Make £6.6m Loss
at 13:46:30

The wage bill figure doesn't surprise me, too much dead wood around the squad earning good money. Last season Coke, Toure, Polish Pete, Varney. None of them we're really needed but each of them probably on around £5K a week (Over £1 million per year).

I'd rather see a leaner squad & give the youngsters the chance when there are injuries.

No More Signings Before Window Closes
at 22:25:34

So predictable Evans brings in a fans favourite on loan (keep em sweet),make a couple of bids so it looks like he was willing to spend the money. We know we can't compete financially on the same level as the Newcastle's & Villa's of this league but lets at least give ourselves a chance & re-invest proceeds made on player sales. If we wasn't sure we could get a deal done then don't sell. Very disapointing!

Best Joins Blues
at 13:35:14

So if we land another forward, we'll have 6. Is that too many considering we've been playing with 1 up? 5 would be ample enough imo.

A wide player is a priority, would also like another centre midfielder but would have to be better than what we have!

Leon Best Starts for Town U23s
at 18:11:15

If we didn't sign Varney last week, then i agree he'd be a decent option (given the Mcgoldrick injury) but the fact is Mick signed Varney with a view that he would be decent cover. If he doesn't think he's up to it then don't sign him.

If we signed Best we'd have 6 centre forwards plus Morris & only 2 wide players Ward & Grant( as Stewart clearly isn't in his thinking). Just feels like we're going to end up with another sqaud of players with 4 or 5 being surplus to requirement!

Leon Best Starts for Town U23s
at 13:00:16

We don't need more strikers, well certainly not any who aren't better than what we have. Varney was brought in last week to fill the void of Mcgoldrick injury.

Wide players is what we are desperately short of, Sears wasted out wide but we play him there because we haven't got anyone else!

We don't need numbers we need quality first team starters in the positions we are lacking quality!

McCarthy: Town Operating in Same Markets
at 17:12:15

My real issue with this is we've spent our whole budget on the part of the squad that didn't really need strengthening, if we only have a small budget at least use it on one of the key positions we are short in i.e Right Back or a Wide player.

Town Chiefs Decide Summer Plans
at 21:31:14

The strategy has to be Quality over quantity, with the kids coming through we have plenty of cover in most positions. Would rather see us target 3 players who will make a real difference, that are better than we already have than 10 players just to add numbers.

Get him in the team, we've got nothing to play for & tbh the way we're playing i'm sure it will be an improvement on what we've got at the moment.

Let's give the kid a reason to want to stay.

Milne: Stick With Us
at 12:57:10

The comment of wages increasing by 25% is an interesting one, and i'm guessing it's due to us having too many average players who aren't anywhere near good enough to play at this level in the squad. Polish Pete, Tabb, Coke, Toure, Varney all nowhere near good enough to be challenging for the first team, but all are probably on a decent wage.

Not to mention others currently in the first team that aren't performing.

When we sign players we need to sign better than we already have and if we can't do that there is a serious problem with the recruitment policy and/or level of investment into the club.
