Over the last eight seasons teams in 22nd place have had anything from 40 points (Portsmouth in 2011/12) to 52 points (Leicester in 2007/08). We should be safe by now but we aren't. My guess is we need 60 points to be sure of safety, so one more win & four draws or a couple of wins & a draw. Simples.... |

I'm back to my 3 phases. Phase 1 under PJ — P13 & 7 points; Phase 2 under MM with DJ Campbell on loan — P13 & 23 points; Phase 3 under MM but no DJ — P8 & 9 points. With 12 games left, 39 points in the bag & Phase 3 form continuing (1.125 points per game), we could end the season with 52 or 53 points. Which should be good enough....but then again.... |

My stats aren't always the best but if we look at our form in 2013 (P6 W1 D2 L3 5points) & then carry that forward into the next 15 games, we might expect to pick up another 12 or 13 points which would give us 47 or 48 at the end of the season. Which ain't enough... |

Phase 3 of the 2012/13 season ain't started well. Let me explain - Phase 1 was the disastrous 13 games under PJ, Phase 2 was the glorious arrival of MM coinciding with all those goals from DJ, now Phase 3 which started with DJ going back to QPR and has consisted of 2 draws & 2 losses, 2 points from a possible 12 - that's a worse return than during Phase 1! Even with the transfer window additions I'm still wondering where those winning goals are going to come from.... |

There is virtue in looking back to learn lessons for the future - what you mustn't do is dwell in the past 'cos it's done with. However, I will NEVER forget the 7-1 drubbing by Peterborough and like it or not, that colours my opinions about the performance of the team & manager this season. We were numb when we left London Road - I've never witnessed anything so bad. Or was losing 3-1 at home to Forest just as bad?
But I acknowledge the positive performances over the last 4 games - the team as a whole has been terrific. So what of the future? Let's just hope for more good performances & results, starting at Brighton on Saturday. COYB! |
