Confirmed - Official Thank You Thread: Chambers | Skuse | Sears
at 19:25 10 May 2021

As a relatively young Town fan these players are my Ipswich heroes.

Couldn’t have asked for a better captain than Chambo, he went above and beyond, both on and off the pitch. At being a captain and a role model I truly believe we had the best. I’ve always felt great pride knowing we had Chambers representing us, a man who put real meaning into the armband. A Chambers fist pump epitomises what Ipswich means to me.

Skuse is undoubtedly my favourite Town player. I walked out onto the pitch with him when I was a mascot back in 2015, and it was honestly one of the best experiences of my life, which I’d like to thank him for. A really nice guy and an excellent footballer. Ipswich won’t be the same without him and Chambo.

Sears always gave 100% for the shirt and I’ll never forget his key role in the second half of the 14/15 season (by far the most enjoyable season I’ve witnessed). His goal against Forest which ultimately saw us get into the playoffs remains one of my all time favourite Town moments.

All three players are a credit to the club and we’ve been lucky to have them. They‘ve represented everything good about Ipswich during this difficult era. It’s such a shame that it should end with no fans and no promotion but this absolutely does not undermine what these three have done for this club. I hope they realise that they mean a lot to a lot of town fans.

Thank you and good luck!

time for the diamond again?
at 16:58 16 Sep 2019

I’d like to see a diamond formation given a go. This isn’t just a reaction to the Donny game, I think it should be our long term formation. We keep the two up top but it also gives us more of an option to go short as well as direct.

KVY is a perfect full back for a diamond formation. I’d give either Garbutt or Georgiou a chance at left back, even though it’s not their favoured position, because they can still both play there and they both have more threat going forward than Kenlock, who looks like our weak link. Therefore, due to our attacking full backs I don’t think we’d lose our width and direct running 4-4-2 gives us.

The formation also allows us to play 3 of our centre mids without sacrificing the front two, which we should look to do, as we have so many talents in that area. A diamond would also let Judge play in his favoured role, which I think would unleash the player we know he can be. Even if Judge continues his underwhelming form, it could potentially be a route for Dobra into the team. Even Rowe or Nolan could play there and Lankester when fit. Edwards is the only player who you would struggle to fit in.

4-4-2 has done well but it limits the ways we can attack. The diamond would do everything our 4-4-2 does but it also allows us to mix up our style giving us more freedom. I’d like to see it at least experimented.

Think Hurst is done here
at 18:27 22 Sep 2018

It would be such a mistake to sack Hurst now. A lot of fans have been waiting for this change for 2 years. Yet after just 10 games a lot of fans want to revert to a more experienced manager. The decision to sack Mick was the right one. In my opinion the wrong decision was not appointing Ross but that's neither here nor there at the moment. Hurst was the type of young manager we had been waiting for for so long. It is really strange to me how many fans are willing to abandon the project after so short a time and go back to the type of manager they protested against for 2 years. Hurst is still finding his feet, it's only September, fans need to put things into perspective. If we are really struggling at Christmas then perhaps it would be right to sack him. We could easily finish in the top half under Hurst. Abandoning the new project everyone cried out for with still so much football to play seems like madness to me. We made a mistake by not appointing Ross, let's not make another by sacking Hurst.

Who on here wasn’t at ‘that’ Bolton playoff game?

I hadn't been born yet. I think that's probably a good enough excuse. I wish I could've gone though.

Hurst is likely to have strong backing from the dressing room. A lot of the players he signed from lower league clubs will feel indebted to Hurst for making their life changing moves happen.

First derby game memories?
at 20:14 1 Sep 2018

The first derby I was at was the 5-1 defeat in 2011. I haven't seen us beat the scum whilst I've been following Ipswich, hopefully that will change tomorrow.

1 up front....
at 09:56 22 Aug 2018

When Huws or Bishop or Dozzell are fit enough I would like them to replace Chalobah. Chalobah is perfectly good but I don't think we need both him and Skuse in the team when we are struggling to score. I would keep Skuse as I believe he's essential to the team, as shown last night when we were definitely worse with out him on. With more attack minded midfielders the likelihood is that our striker will be less isolated. Nydam, even though he's listen for loan, would've been a good option to at least bring off the bench for a bit of creativity and energy especially as he's the only fit centre mid who could come on as a more attacking change.

Add a quality left winger on loan and drop Chalobah for a more attacking minded mid when fit and we'll look a far more threatening side still with one up top.

I couldn't agree more with the defensive line. We should of been pressing them high up as well to exploit their playing out from the back weakness but we just stood off and sat back.

My thoughts
at 22:34 21 Aug 2018

Why did we not press them when they played from the back. That's Derby's big weakness which was excellently exploited by Millwall on Saturday. Some early pressing could have got us a goal and increased the nerves amongst the Derby fans who were a bit concerned pre kickoff. Jackson tried it when he came on but he was the only one doing it and you have to press as a team. I'm surprised Hurst didn't employ this tactic and it was very frustrating to watch.

Watson saying Dozzell left out as made available for loan.. (n/t)
at 17:11 11 Aug 2018

I really hope we don't loan him out. Dozzell would add a lot to the team and wouldn't be one of those youngster who is carried by the team. It sounded like our problem today was creating clear cut chances, so it would be strange to loan out the player in our team who can play defence splitting passes. I hope Hurst at least gives him a chance in the first team before deciding if he should loan him out.

I'll be disappointed to lose Knudsen and Garner today
at 10:10 9 Aug 2018

This might well be the best chance we get to make money off Knudsen as his contract expires at the end of the season and his value will have been boosted by his World Cup appearance. For that reason I would not be too disappointed if he left as I feel we can probably also get a replacement of around his quality on loan. A good opportunity to provide Hurst with more funds.

I think he could well be loaned out if the deal goes through. A loan is just what Kenlock needs.

Let's hope Hurst is talking about Skuse
at 11:10 17 Jul 2018

I'd say that quite a few sides would take Skuse but that's just my opinion.

I do believe his range of passing is often overlooked. We do have some really good passers of the ball who have been injured and not seen enough game time who probably are better at passing. However, his through ball he played to Celina with the outside of his foot against Cardiff was top class, you can't do that if your not a very techniqually gifted player. He has got the capability of a great pass helped by his supurb reading of the game as he has shown on various other occasions, something I believe he doesn't get enough credit for.

Goals and assists shouldn't count for anything in the role he plays. It's not his job. That's similar to critising a centre back for not getting enough goals and assists. It's got nothing to do with what he is meant to be doing.

Downes, paired alongside Dozzell and Huws sounds good on paper but when you get to the physicality of the championship, two teenagers and another creative mid would not work. Also the leadership gap left by Skuse is the opposite of what we need. We need him in the team to allow our creative youngsters to flourish as he provides a solid base that at the moment Downes doesn't. Downes certainly has the potential but he's not there yet. I believe Downes' role in the team could be to play either with Skuse in a midfield three if we are away at a Stoke or a Swansea as he is better than Dozzell etc. defensively but also has attacking threat (mainly with his passing), or to bring him on for a more attacking minded mid if we need to hold on to a lead.

When we play without Skuse our midfield often looks lost.

Skuse is such an essential part to our team. We have no one else in the side who can play the holding midfield role like him.

Downes is definitely not at that level yet and if you threw him in to that role in the first team, chances are we would probably get torn apart on several occasions.

The holding midfielder is key to how well a team defends as he protects the defence (especially important when you have a back four which it looks like we will). Skuse is superb at this and is backed up by the huge number of interceptions he made suggesting that he is one of the best in the division at his role.

He reads the game superbly and can pull off an excellent pass. We are lucky to have him and he doesn't get enough credit for the vital role he performs.

Do we need better than Spence, Kenlock and Emmanuel in the Champ?
at 09:53 15 Jul 2018

At right back I hope Emmanuel can step up and become first choice but also with Spence who is very good on his day and Cotter who played well during his small amount of playing time we should hopefully have enough depth to have at least one of the right backs playing well enough for each game.

At left back I believe Kenlock would really benefit from a loan like Emmanuel had last season. By playing week in week out hopefully his descision making and positioning will improve. Then we could sign a first team quality left back which is an area which could be improved on our budget or we could sign one on loan so at the start of next season, then if Kenlock is good enough there is room for him in the team on his return.

In a few hours time we will know who England are playing against in the Final of
at 18:32 10 Jul 2018

I'd prefer Belgium. So many of their team play in the prem that it would be like a premier league game which would give us more confidence as the players would feel they could beat them as they are really just their teammates. Coming up against the likes of Mbappe and Griezmann England might feel more intimidated by opposition they haven't faced.
