Bristol City up and coming
at 18:18 25 Feb 2024

Bristol: very pleasant city. Metro population 714 000 2 teams.
Ipswich population 151 000 1 team.

Statistics can be used in many ways, but Ipswich Town FC phenomenally well supported.

Maidstone 176,000. By that metric the town should support a team of similar aspirations as Ipswich.

The aftermath of the horrendous missile attack from Derby Day rumbles on…
at 18:52 5 Jan 2024

Paddy Davitt seems a humourless ignoramus as witnessed by his comments after the derby game, referring to McKenna's post match summary as 'salty'
In contrast, we are fortunate to have Stuart Watson in a similar role.

I would guess that the club have factored in hospitality as well. Game changer are very meticulous in everything they do.

Good summary by Stu
at 10:45 16 Feb 2023

I find the post match comments by Stuart Watson and Andy Warren insightful both immediately after the match and also after a period of reflection. Their output via KOA is very informative and is very well moderated by Mark Heath. I find Phil Ham's match summaries dovetail with my own observations pretty much every time. Stuart Watson makes the point that as a journalist he has to avoid being overly emotional but should present himself as phlegmatic. As l said earlier, the output from all these sources is of a high quality.

Good summary by Stu

We are very well served by different channels. Stuart Watson and Andy Warren are outstanding journalists and the output from Blue Monday, KOA and TWTD are excellent. I am not very familiar with the output from other clubs but l suspect that they are mostly inferior. The Pinkun puts some of their content behind a paywall.

Hey Phil - How did JET play?
at 18:12 15 Jan 2018

I thought the trialist showed good touches particularly when weighting through balls which wasn't easy in the conditions. Emmanuel Thomas looked like a rugby number 8; probably their kit didn't help.
Drinnan put in a shift putting their defence under pressure and Sears didn't stop running. Despite what an earlier poster said, l thought Folami looked sharp in the short time he was on.

Anyone in the know Re MM
at 11:56 11 Jan 2018

Can anyone with a long memory or access to press cuttings etc. repeat what Bill McGarry said about Ipswich when he resigned (to go to Wolves?). Something to the effect that the club had little potential l believe. It is therefore ironic that this preceded the most successful period in the club history. A small reason for optimism? Taking on a manager with lots to prove.

Why don't you think it.....
at 10:01 4 Jan 2018

Always good to read a comment from Phil as he always comes across as informed and reasonable in his assessments.
I hear with interest the announcement every home game to the effect ' Marcus Evans, the genius behind the best corporate hospitality'. With that in mind, surely it must be an embarrassment seeing both the product in display and the disgruntled customers.
Hopefully when a new manager does come along he will show more respect to Phil at the press conferences

Interesting to read Phil's comments as he is always a good judge.
I always smile when l hear the announcement at every game to the effect, ' Marcus Evans, the genius behind corporate hospitality'; surely if he wants his name emblazoned on the shirts and at the ground (stadium!), then he would prefer to have not just a good product on the pitch but also a good attendance. It must be embarrassing to have corporate guests seeing a half empty ground with disgruntled customers.
Anyway, as l said, it's always good to read Phil's incisive comments as they come with more authority than most posts.
If Mick McCarthy does leave, l hope the new manager is more polite and respectful to Phil at the press conferences.

Wolves 1-0 Ipswich - YouTube Match Review
at 19:33 23 Dec 2017

Half season reports. (Presumably more important than end of term ones?)

Harry from Bath: A+
Excellent trawling of opposition websites. Insightful comments and outstanding reviews of opposition fans' views. Envy of other club's forums. Keep it up next half season..... Please.

Benjamin Bloom: A
Fair-minded and knowledgeable comments. A great contrast to what l have seen in comparison at Norwich.

Phil Ham: A
Reports always coincide with my own observations. Deserves a medal for turning up every week at Mick McCarthy's pre-match press conferences.

Stuart Watson A
Excellent local reporter in print, on Twitter and on pod casts. Strikes right balance between holding manager to account and not alienating him which can't be easy.

Mick McCarthy: B+
Great use of resources. Let down by occasional pop at fans. Some deserve his comments but many don't. Well thought-of by players and has created a good spirit within the squad.

Marcus Evans: B-
Much of his input is conjecture. Is he the saviour or a speculator? Not at all sure. Needs to either communicate more with fans or find someone who can.

It was long ago that 'working on the offensive side of our game' would have had a different connotation.

Who do the fans want
at 09:57 2 Nov 2017

All excellent posts. Where l think things have gone wrong at Portman Road is the focus on solely 'the team'. Mick McCarthy has stated that he sees his brief as solely being to get results. Successful managers past and present have looked at the bigger picture; getting everyone on board. In Bobby Robson's time there was a feeling of everyone pulling together to create a sense of identity. If you look at the famous discussion between Don Revie and Clough after he was sacked, Revie's main complaint against Clough was that he didn't engage with all people at the club. I get the impression that Wagner at Huddersfield created an identity and Wilder is doing the same at Sheffield United. What l am saying is that if you engage on friendly terms with the supporters then that good will will translate into results. I refer to the banner at the back of the Sir Bobby stand in which he articulates what a club should be.
