 | News Comment | Nottingham Forest 1-1 (AET, 5-4 on Pens) Ipswich Town at 22:48:25
Some positives to take away from that. Some really solid defensive performances, Hirst playing the best part of 90 minutes and getting on the score sheet. If we defend like that more consistently then we might pick up some better results. I still think we struggled to get out a bit at times, we seem to lack options or chances to play the ball through. Going out on pens always frustrating, 5 top quality pens from Forest. 4 top quality pens from us, and 1 that was average. At this point in the season I’m largely just looking toward next season. Shame that we won’t get a chance of Wembley, and it would take a minor miracle to stay up. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Get Through This Round and People Start to Dream at 22:41:46
Hopefully Forest put out a weaker side and it disrupts them a bit. It was an even game at the City Ground last time, which would give me a bit of hope if our form wasn’t absolutely atrocious. This could be the best chance we have in a very long time to get to the semis of the FA Cup, and a trip to Wembley for the first time to the new Wembley, and first trip there in 25 years. I just hope they give a better showing than they have of later and give 100%, rather than the dross we’ve been served up against Man Utd and Southampton recently. |

Leejames. We should have won that match v Man Utd back in November. Onana made two outstanding saves from Delap. The goal they scored was due to a mistimed tackle on the halfway line (Cajuste I think) and Leif being a bit out of position. It was Amorim’s first game in charge and I think we weren’t sure what they were going to be doing. By no means was that a game in which we held them, they were lucky to come away from that game with a point. On any given day I’d say losing 3-2 to Man U away wouldn’t cause me any issue at all. They still have outstanding players, sure, but in the modern game where teams often go man to man, having 11v10 is such a massive advantage, typically it’s taken. I disagree with those saying we need to play x, y or z player. McKenna knows which line up to go with and that’s not the issue. The issue is poor performances, lack of belief, and not giving 100%. It was so obvious to anyone watching last night. We can shuffle the players around and try different systems, but none of that is working. We lack quality in this league, so it almost doesn’t matter what we try. But we’re not going to get any points if the players play like they did last night. |

Leejames. Given that it was 10v11 and 2-2 at half time against a team that was 15th in the premier league and that had lost 5 out of the their last 6 home PL matches. Yes, we should be winning that match. Ignore the badge on their chest, Man Utd this year are a poor side as their league position tells us. My issue is that our players just did not perform on the night to an expected level, and at times didn’t look like they were giving 100%. Ashton can tell everyone to get behind the players, which the majority of us will. But we need to be seeing more from them as a collective group than what we witnessed last night. |

So many problems on display today. Lacked ideas going forwards. We didn’t have any width, which is exactly what you need to be doing against ten men. We take far too long to make decisions in possession, often the pass is gone by the time they’ve realised what they should be doing. Really poor defending from set pieces. We’re losing the 1v1 duels far too often, and then we’re just too open at the back. We don’t seem to have any attacking patterns of play, the players don’t seem to have an idea of how to create anything. Both the goals we scored were pretty lucky if we’re honest. We’re lacking quality and belief and are looking way out of our depth. Similar themes throughout the season, but early on in the season we were playing fairly well but getting a bit unlucky. Now we’re playing woefully and can barely pick up a point, let alone win a match. I think the writing was on the wall after the Southampton game, but we really need to see some better performances. We’ve spent decent money on this squad, and I don’t think we’re seeing enough from them. I’m not expecting us to go and win loads of matches, but they need to show more than what we’ve seen in 2025. The only decent performance was when we went down to ten men vs Villa. |

Such a frustrating game but feels so similar to the rest of the season. I thought we played really well, we should’ve gone at least 1-0 up in the first 10 minutes, easily could’ve got two. Instead spurs score two from the only two chances they get. We get back into the game, score an offside goal that gets disallowed, then they go and deflect one in. That 4th goal, I thought play was supposed to stop if there’s a clash of heads? Apparently Mr Robinson is now making up the laws of the game. Such fine margins that we were on the wrong side of. I don’t think we can really get at the players as I thought there were some good performances. Unfortunately, I just don’t think we have the quality to survive. I really think that we can only win games if we get the first goal. And for the love of god, I never want to see Tim Robinson at Portman Road again, he’s shockingly bad at his job. |

We ended up with a 531 after Axel got sent off really, Johnson was acting as a RWB and O’Shea a right centre back. Started with Axel as rb/rcb with O’Shea more centrally. As you’ve said though, we mix it up every week. Sometimes it’s tactical, more often than not it’s been due to injuries. I’d also quite like us to go 4231, but that would likely mean dropping Johnson who isn’t effective as a rb in a back 4. In any case, I’m more confident for this one as Ange is tactically very inflexible, and McKenna will know exactly how we need to set up to win, it will be on the players to be able to carry it out. |

Leejames, he’s not going to play O’Shea at right back, and I expect if Davis is 100% he’ll start. I also think Godfrey will come in for Axel, no idea who will come in for Enciso. You can make an argument for Clarke, Broady or Szmodics (if 100%). Either way, McKenna completely outdid Ange last time, we were very good value for that 2-1 win. But this is the premier league so it’s not going to be easy, Spurs have picked up a bit of late and will very much expect to win this one. If PR is loud and we get something early, then I fancy our chances for the three points. COYB |
 | News Comment | Robinson to Referee Tottenham Match at 21:07:02
This bloke cost us two points in that Leicester match, absolutely no doubt about that. I’ve never been so furious with a referee at Portman Road before. You can understand a League 1 or Champ referee being bad. But he’s supposed to be one of the best in the country. Stuart Watson’s article on it hit the nail on the head, seemed to have it in for us from the first minute. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again or Ashton will be ringing Howard Webb again. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Morsy and Davis Injuries Minor, Enciso to Be Assessed at 00:11:08
Hopefully it’s nothing that will keep Enciso out for long, he’s looked really lively for us so far. He had quite a big injury last season, so hopefully it isn’t any type of reoccurrence of that. We didn’t miss either of Leif or Morsy. Going forwards I think KP and Jens should be the midfield starters. But Sammy still has a role to play as a leader and providing depth and coming on towards the end of matches. |
 | News Comment | Aston Villa 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 17:17:41
So many good defensive displays. Palmer made some absolutely exceptional saves and was motm. Nice to see Hutchinson taking on a player out wide and getting it into the box, and what a finish. Very much 1 point gained and a bit of belief heading into the Spurs match next week. COYB! |
 | News Comment | Delap: I Knew I Could Score in the Premier League at 14:35:07
Stato - we’ll see come the summer time. But I don’t think it’s as simple as City can just buy him back and then sell him on straight away, that carries a lot of risk for them, plus you’d have to have Delap sign a contract, sign-on fee, agent fee etc with City, and then go and do it again with say Chelsea. So the player would have to go along with it, Delap is well advised and that just would seem out of character. If City decide that they don’t want Delap, I think he’d likely go for a decent chunk of money. If two or more clubs are interested then he could end up going for a lot. Either way, I’m just hoping he stays fit and in form between now and the end of the season. He’s an absolute joy to watch. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: A Big, Big Challenge But One to Look Forward To at 14:19:50
I’m hoping we try and get at Villa when we can. They’ve got a few centre backs out injured and Delap had a field day against a full strength Villa back line last time. Not going to be easy though. I worry about their midfielders, particularly Rogers, I’d rather we start with Phillips/Cajuste as Sammy has struggled a bit of late. |
 | News Comment | Town Drawn Away at Exeter or Forest in FA Cup at 15:16:16
Assuming Forest go through, it was quite a close game against them back in November, just that penalty between us. We had quite a few opportunities in the first half which came to nothing (story of our season!). But there’s every chance we could beat them or knock them out in pens, especially if they make a few changes. Not the best draw but I’m not writing us off just yet. Plus I’m desperate to see Town play at the new Wembley! |
 | News Comment | Coventry City 1-4 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 17:35:22
Really good performance all round, Saturdays are much better when we win! Hirst was superb, particularly in the first half. Clarke with two goals and an assist, absolutely brilliant from him. Palmer looked assured in goal, made some good saves and is ready to start next week too. A shame about Sammie but hopefully nothing too serious, might’ve been brought back a bit early from injury. For next week I think it’d be good to make some of our subs a bit earlier, Hirst in particular has been really limited with minutes, wouldn’t mind him getting 20-25 mins towards the end of matches, his pressing and running are always a handful for defenders. Onto the next round! |

One of the only reasons I still use Twitter is because it can be a source for ITFC related stuff, but the place is a bit of a bot-ridden cesspit these days. Good to have more Ipswich content elsewhere! |
