Hurst: I Don't Think the Group as a Whole Bought into What We Were Trying to Do
He misjudged the quality of the Championship and the calibration of players needed. OK, he lost a lot through loans and their choice to leave, but the players he brought in have proven to be just too low a quality. One or two lower league players to develop would have been OK, but not the numbers he bought. He was th master of his own downfall and no excuses will cover that.
Lambert: Important to Listen to Fans
Can see now why he did so well with that lot up the road. They were lucky to have him and I think we are too now. I just hope he can have the success his first few weeks here deserve.
Lambert: Trio Deserved England Call
Love his mixed Metaphors! "they’ve got their first foot on the ladder as I call it, and if they keep their feet on the ground they’ve got a chance."
Lambert to Attend PLC AGM
Great words about Luke Chambers. Not sure I’ve ever read anything quite as grateful and fulsome in praise of a clubs captain before. Anywhere.
Lambert Meets Blues Legends
The great thing about this is that he’ll have a bang up to date, fully professional critique of the club from 3 blokes that really know not just the history, but what’s happened the last few months. I’m sure they didn’t hold back on their opinions and if they were in agreement then Lambert will have been given a turbo boost in terms of getting to grips with things.
Master stroke on PL’s part.
Butcher: Lambert to Meet Blues Legends
Pretty damning statement this from Butch:
"It’s all repetition on the training pitch so that when you come out to play in the stadium it’s all peripheral, the noise, the atmosphere, the stands because you’re doing what you do on the training field; waves of attack, attack versus defence, all the shape. You have to do it, it’s the basic principles of football. It never happened [under the previous management], I think Paul Hurst was more concerned with fitness and they ran them and when they got the ball they tried to take a breather, which you can’t do."
Burley Applies for Town Job
" I have lived in Ipswich for the last four years and been at virtually every home game so I understand the current mood and what is required going forwards.”
He might understand the mood and what is required, but is he the man to change it and take us forward? I'm not sure. Would give a huge adrenaline rush among many of us, but if results don;t change I think it could turn sour quite quickly.
Milne: Considered Search for New Boss to Run Past End of Season
PaulC - I'm just wondering what 'similarity in circumstance' you see in Gerrard and Keane? Both were captains of club and country, but in terms of character and management experience they are poles apart. Keane had always been rude, abrasive and aggressive, Gerrard has never been any of those things. Plus he has had a year of learning his trade as a player under some of the best managers around, and as a coach under one of the very, very best managers in the world. Totally different from Keane and I don't really think there are obvious comparisons at all. Just my opinion!
