Harry Clarke appreciation
at 23:10 22 Jan 2024

I feel fans have been overly critical recently.

In the past two matches he has played over three hours against arguably two of the very best left wingers in the division (+ Summerville), perhaps premier league players in waiting, and kept them mostly quiet. He deserves credit and more appreciation from supporters - we're lucky to have him in our team.

Marcus Maddison off to prison...
at 14:30 9 Aug 2023

It wasn't that long ago he was deemed a top talent for league one. Some people even touted him as the best in the league. Someone we should aim for as a transfer target, despite the attitude issues.

He's just received a 20 month jail sentence for punching a 60 year-old lady outside a kebab shop at 3am. His downward trajectory was somewhat predictable, but few would have thought it would reach such depths. Sad all round.

Walton vs Hladky
at 21:49 10 Feb 2023

Quite a few starting to question whether Hladky is due to get a start in the league, raising doubts about Walton's performances, but how many goals can people point to that were genuinely his fault?

I think he could have commanded his box better at times, doesn't look peak confidence, and sometimes distribution is shaky (albeit mostly under pressure), however I don't think Hladky is an upgrade in these areas. It's too easy to place the blame at the goalkeeper and dropping Walton won't help build confidence. Happy to be proven wrong though.

Derby Run In
at 06:44 7 Feb 2023

Interesting point made on the NTT20 podcast. Derby will have an important part to play in shaping the top 6, maybe top 2, given their remaining fixtures.

They have to play 6 of the top 8, with 5 of the 6 away from home, in their remaining 18 fixtures.

- Wycombe Away
- Barnsley Away
- Plymouth Away
- Peterborough Away
- Ipswich Home
- Sheff W Away (final day of the season)

Style of play
at 23:13 19 Jan 2023

Broadhead, Hirst (loan), and now Clarke. All great signings, and I think it demonstrates the value of having a strong, attacking style of play.

For Broadhead and Hirst in particular, they must love the idea of joining a team that's dominating posession and creating a good amount of scorign opportunities. If either can get 10+ in the second half of the season then that's great for their football cv.

Captain Chambers
at 21:52 27 Mar 2021

Where have Chambers' leadership skills gone?

Ignoring the debate about whether he is good enough or whether he can play right back, it was always clear that he gave his all for the team. He was vocal on the pitch, both in victory and defeat, and was typically willing to speak to the media afterwards, where his 'F***' postgame Charlton and numerous 'disappointed' interviews displayed his emotional drive to win. Recently, however, he looks like a shell of a man. What has happened to him? This team lacks leadership from front to back.

Remaining Fixtures
at 19:16 13 Mar 2021

When you consider how many teams in the top 10 still have to play each other, and our favourable set of fixtures, the top 6 looks increasingly achievable. Hopefully 8 of the 12 being away isn't a big negative factor.

3. Lincoln: to play Sunderland, Oxford, Charlton, Hull, Peterborough
4. Sunderland: Accrington x2, Lincoln, Oxford, Peterborough, Charlton, Hull
5. Doncaster: Oxford, Charlton, Accrington, Peterborough (x2)
6. Ipswich: Portsmouth, Charlton
7. Portsmouth: Peterborough, Ipswich, Accrington (x2)
8. Charlton: Doncaster, Lincoln, Sunderland, Ipswich, Peterborough, Accrington, Hull

Apologies if already posted, though funny enough it probably warrants another viewing. Looks like he’s about as good at football as he is being an MP.

Maradona vs CR / Messi
at 14:02 26 Nov 2020

Was Maradona better than Ronaldo and Messi?

Unfortunately, I’m too young to have watched much of him in his prime, and I’ve often felt the standard of football has significantly improved over time. However, watching the footage back, I was struck by just how bad the tackling was. Every game, almost every time he dribbled, there was what would be described as a potential career ending tackling nowadays, and most of the time he glides out of the way. Teddy Bishop’s career would have lasted about 10 minutes if he was playing then!

Contracts Expiring
at 10:43 25 Nov 2020

Which of the young players have contracts that expire in the summer? Downes (?), Dozzell (?), any others?

It feels like the only bright spark this season has been watching Dozzell, Bishop, Downes (a little), Lankester and McGavin all getting game time, looking comfortable at this level and most of them making an impact on the game (even if not for 90 minutes). You could add Woolfenden to that list. Not sure there will be much to get excited about if we lose any of those players.
