Wasnt thrilled at Cooks appointment, nor what he has done in terms of results. He got around a season's worth of games, and had us in barely staying up form. He was allowed to brig in a lot of players tho' who are HIS players. Could make the new manager's job hard, unless the US owners will allow a whole new team to be recruited again. If we are looking at Manning etc- why not Richardson off wigan? We had the mouthpiece now get the brains in. Seems as likely as Slumberland or plastic dons bosses jacking in to join us. Then they would be still (sort of) his players...

Frank - only got in the play offs due to his loanees Mount, Tomori, etc then got the job at Chelski- my 12 yr old daughter could have managed them into the CL places . Embargo my backside! With 60 odd players about that's hardly a struggle is it? He needs more spending power than we are allowed so wont drop to the 3rd div.
Gary whackit (for all you Mike Bassett fans) no thanks. Mad thug. Id take Lennon over both of them anyday. I think the lack of obvious alternatives is the only thing that kep cook in his job so long. Did an appalling job for us- worse than Paul Wurst!

NOT thrilled at that list tbh. Lennon? better than some on there. Colin w@nker... NOPE!!

personally i wouldnt mind a foreign coach BUT one thing to consider... they have usually wanted to bring players over with them- david wagner at Uddersfld for example. Brexit has scuppered that. Even if they get a work permit they are not gonna be able to bring a load of players in from France, Germany etc. We are not operating at the level where they are star names so CAN get permits... established internationals. I reckon Wagner wouldnt have been able to get his promotion now, with Bundesliga2 players. They couldnt have come over to play in the lower divs here now.

Northern blues- Mick Mc didnt faile as such. Took us to the 2nd div play offs and a steady 2nd div position. Not getting into THAT whole debate- it's gone now

Bonne was THE signing of the summer. Without him we'd be staring the 4th div in the face.

Anyone else noticed that we never get promoted as runners up? Only champs or the 1 play off success. Weird, that .

Tremendous result! I'd say the best we have managed under Cook (so far). Good for the team and managemt. Credit where it's due - we called on here for changes - an experienced head coming into assist/advise. Reid seems to be having an effect. When I saw his name I wasnt thrilled BUT I had been 1 of those wanting someone in, so accepted him. Top 2 may be already out of reach. Play off? Maybe, maybe. Relegation- still not beyond the realms, but keep this run of results going & it becomes a more distant fear/prospect. Well done Cook & the boys tonight. Maintain this & you may win more of the support over.

V welcome win - sounds comfortable. And interesting that it was the majority of last season's side that came up with the result. 7 started & 8 (i think) finished the game for us. Up to the new squad to show that they actually ARE better than those they have replaced. Kenlock got a run out since he is unable to play in the league. Maybe the grass isnt always greener (in players)...?

Sorry- got cut off. Right now, nor at any point during his reign, have I seen any great signs that this can or will happen. Sometimes it just doesnt work out, or its the right manager at the wrong time. I agree Dirty - maybe leaving Gill in charge for the rest of last season would not have been a bad idea, or at least until promotion could not be achieved. (form dips and we have 3-4 'dead rubbers', let a new manager come in then & assess the squad, test out formations etc)

Overall the results have been v v poor- Cook must be ranking pretty low (if not bottom) of the Town managers 'league table'- I dont buy the" forget last season's results" excuse. He had a chance to try n get us promoted last season. Play off defeat? Would have been accepted & is a good starting point. Easier to sell the club to new players with us 'on the up' instead the players DID down tools - due to Paul Cook.
IF they somehow got up- then you can shop in a very different market and are in a great position to move forward. As it is we face being lucky to be in THIS div in 2022-23! Or going to Barrow, sutton utd, Harrogate, Newport in the 4th div next season! (NO disrespect to those clubs listed, either)- Morsey should not have used those terms to refer to an opponent who has beaten you fair n square,

To an extent Jugsy I agree, and that some time can be needed for a side to settle. However that is what pre-season is for. We are well into the season now & I agree with others, facing a relegation battle rather than looking up the table. IF Cook had us steady in midtable, going nowhere but developing, then yes- he gets the season, and into next to show what they can do together. BUT then the same could have been said of Wurst- should we have left him in charge for all of that season? Suppose the end result would have been the same -maybe -but confidence would have been even more shot & playing in front of 5000 by easter. Action was taken to try to rectify the situation of a relegation threat. Arguably Lambert wasnt ever given a full season to go at (due to covid, etc)- maybe he should have been left in charge to try & get 'his' side promoted last season?

This is Ipswich Town- yes, no club is guaranteed success, but this is a big club at this level, and should be at least competitive in the 3rd division. You may get time to go thru the dip & rise business model at a lesser side, who would not be horrified by 4th div status. We should not be even having to contemplate it. As I said above other large/big city clubs have fallen to the 4th div but this is often due to off-field issues. We supposedly do not suffer from these. So Cook's record should not be nudging towards Hurst's but at this rate he will surpass it in terms of awfulness

What are our options...? Frank jnr... nope. A spender who needs to be at a richer/better placed club to get his chums from the Premier lge to drop down, and be paid their sort of wages.
Howe? no- he is a big spender too ...bought his way thru 2 promotions at bournemth remember. He jacked in there originally as Burnley had parachute money in the 2nd div, then when the rich russian fella appeared on the south coast he bailed on them for the bigger spending power on offer. This is 1 reason he hasnt got a new job yet -no one with the money he'd want will let him spend it as they are not convinced by him & those who do want him haven't got the depth of pockets he seeks/needs. He wouldnt come here.

Burley (with assorted Town heroes too)...maybe as a short-term' keep us up' situation (which IS the point we are reaching!) tho' I have my misgivings about his rustiness. Would be welcomed home tho'.
Wilder - defo IF we could get him. As stated elsewhere he is probly still being paid off by the blunts.
Allardyce? Would jar with many but if we could somehow get him, then we would surely stabilise at least, then can progress.
The only other option as said further up this stream is get in a new brain/No2 for this mouthpiece. McGreal? Local still (i think) and has done ok in managmt/coaching.
Sammy Lee - Allardyce's regular no2 so has a lot of experience of this role and successes. 1 Sure thing is- we already need to take action as we have reached a very serious situation. The business model/managemt theories that have been put forward as reasons for patience do not generally apply to football or our specific situation. Your business cant be relegated in a few months time. Similarly US sports teams get time to build/develop due to no relegation. Here, a couple of bad months can be all it takes to fall into the relegation places, and they can be devilishly hard to escape from

I was never thrilled at the prospect of, nor the appointment of Cook. I have been less than impressed he has failed both in completing the job last season of continuing our play-off push (telling the players they are all out come the summer, etc) AND in making about our worst start ever taking into account the level involved, spending etc. Cook out now - we are facing a relegation battle now, never mind leave it a few wks. If that happens we will be in the Hurst/Lambert position of being beyond saving then the new man is planning for the FOURTH division folks! Let that sink in. I have warned in the recent past we might not have hit rock bottom yet! Yes they had some issues off the pitch but clubs like bradford, coventry, pompey, bolton have all fallen that far... it is horribly possible we could too!

And Yes I was a 'Mick in' man. The results problems/relegation/ being stuck in the 3rd div all stems from him leaving Im afraid.
Ironically, Paul Wurst might not have been the worst appointment NOW, as he like Cook had had lower div successes. His way & pool of recruitment actually suited this level more. He just wasnt up to the 2nd div.
Really hope Cook can get an 11 to click & stick with them. Otherwise this may not be rock bottom folks!

The problem for Cook & the owners is they have been pretty open in stating the expectation is promotion this season. So far, they are making it VERY hard for themselves- giving others a handy head start in 2021-22 (how kind of them!!)
Being mid-table in the 2nd div is tolerable for this club & supporters. Struggling in the 3rd div is not.
Eddie Howe? He's a spender & Im not sure the yanks have THAT sort of cash available. He's always chased the (spending) money, bournmth to Burnley with parachute money, then back to Bournmth as their rich Russian fella had even more to spend. Didnt fancy Celtic as they wouldnt buy him every player he'd want...

Not Cook out JUST yet, but we are rapidly approaching that point... he will have an actual crowd to deal with now, compared to the easy ride some clubs/players/managers have had in empty grounds in the last 18 months.
When you say the players are all gone (not good enough) and bring in a whole new squad you leave yourself open to criticism. Time to gel? Time is ticking....

I am not especially sure all the new players are such an upgrade on last season's side as people seem to think. A few ARE good players- a fit Tom Carroll is a class act, R Harper - yes, defo an improvement as Skuse was past it (as happens in football).
It is telling where the players leaving have gone - some to the divs above (Dozzell, Gibbs, Downes, Cornell) others to rivals (Edwards, Wilson, Lankester) and some joined a local side as it suited them in this point in their lives -rather than not being wanted elsewhere (didnt want to move house, disrupt their families etc) Judge, Chambers etc
I REALLY want this to work, Cook to pull a 25 match winning streak out of the bag etc, but I just am not seeing it at present
