the thing that most concerns me is the fact that nothing will be done about it. we have all said something about all of the issues mentioned, its plain for all to see yet the club will probably only justify with a "everybody else is doing it" attitude, or simply ignore becasue after all, we are mindless consumers who know nothing about football or business. its all very well talking here, but until someone actually sits down with the cheif executives we are talking amongst ourselves
@blue moon there is an element of moaning but its also a statement of fact. i have to get by on minimum wage (just like the rest of us) and simply cannot justify such a high price for so little value out of some sense of mis placed loyalty or blind passion. especially when players (not mentioning any names) rinse the wages and move on in the blink of an eye whilst im trying to justify paying through the nose for 90 minutes a week. you must b one of the lucky ones if you can afford to do that, i simply cannot. hence i became disconnected with the club. im not the only one and 15,000 silent seats speak louder than i do
ive blogged about this in the past, and made this exact point. average ticket price ive pad in europe is about 22 euros (for top of the league stuff) yet i pay an 32 pounds for 2nd tier? i love itfc, but i barely afford to go and when i do its so dull an uninsireing. im being frozen out on match day and as a result becoming more and more disconnected with the club. if this can happen to a supporter of 15+ years, what hope has the club of bringing in the next gen got? on a side note, you will find this situation is nation wide (barring cit eh chelski etc) and is destroying the game as we know it
with regards to the suggested formations. we have a british squad, so lets play to british strengths. our strengths are queing and drinking. so lets feed the players jagerbombs beforehand and line up in a 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 formation. worked in the 70's....
im not bothered by this. although he is strangling our wage bill for one more year, we still have enough good strikers and players without him. he owes us big time and in 5 years time, with his attitude and self destructive personality, he will go the way of gazza etc and will end up in re-hab with no one else to help him. enjoy it while you can chops, we will instantly drop and forget you.
thanks for the comments and inputs here guys :) oh and i should mention that i have been informed that the tarpulin in sir bobby actually serves a purpose of keeping the seats from getting dirty. still, looks like a botch job though...
@pessimistic- the points above are not my original ideas, they are tried and tested from my travels and going to see such teams as bayer leverkuesn, az alkmaar, ajax, PSG, +many others. these are all teams that play top of their respective leagues. and have a cracking atmosphere. im not saying that do the above and BOOM! everything is sorted, but what's wrong with wanting a decent match-day product? as much as i like the idea scraping the season tickets, you do need that solid base of suporters, the ones who will turn up week in week out top to bottom. if it wasnt for them hardly anyone would turn up to see some of the stuff we have had to endure for the past 4 or 5 years. just make it more accessible for season ticket and casual supporter alike
nthstd- dont know which portman road you have been going to, but the current match day experience is certainly not worth 28 pounds! half empty, no atmosphere, the only thing going for it now is steadily improving football. decorate the stands a little (with heros and history) take the trophy cabinet from the boardroom and put it in the club shop (with added memorabilia, old shirts, programmes and stuff) and have more activities going on around the ground (face painitng etc) imporved music (not just now whatever we are on) do all of this and it MIGHT be decent value for 28 pounds...
parachute payments are a direct result of what happened to us 10 or so seasons ago. loss of lucrative sky (in our case itv) money plus prem wage bill plus everyday running of the club means administration, points deductions and maybe drop out of the professional league. although it seems like a silly situation, it does save a lot of clubs from (worst case scenario) going under maybe a better plan from the fa would be to introduce wage caps AT ALL CLUBS for every league. for instance a player in the prem from man u to reading is paided 20k, upon relegation its automatically slashed to 10k and so on and so fourth. this would make it fair for everyone, a good business model and money saved in wages could go into academys tou bring youths through
gary think that part of the problem was and is too many players signed. we've had 3 or 4 team overhauls in as many years and whilst those players you mentoin are good on paper that doesnt make a good team.
blueinbrum last player that i can remember was matty holland who didnt miss a game till midway through our second prem season
another intresting note to remember (unless i have my facts wrong) is that ffp doesnt affect the prem yet, so they can still spend crazy money where as champ clubs cant so if we need the money to make the 5 or 6 signings we need we may have to lisen(and of course jack the price)
its been like that for a while. remeber pre season watching town in den bosch (on a training field) stood right next to where the players come off and they just walked right past us. would never have happened under jim or matt!
great result today though, much needed. but wont feel safe till we get a win and the rest of the bottom 3 dont. still, great day, shame i cant go next week casue im skint (hint hint tyrone....just kidding :)
davin you will have a lot of fun in dortmund beautiful stadium try if possible to vist vfl bochum aswell, man those guys are loud! didnt stop singing the entire game
theobold there was no parachute money back then, that was started AFTER our fiasco to stop it happening to others. also the collapse of itv digetle meant a large chunk of that 30 mill gone, coupled with hugh wage bills (sereni, paplo finindi amonst others) divided by the day to day cost (bills, merchindise making non-footballing staff etc) equals one skint as club. oh and you can probably go ahead and chuck loss of revenue from going down (drop in season tickets, drop in merch sales etc)
kiwiblue- even in the 70's portman road is un-mistakable :) good video, bit too young to be there though
King of portman road- tis a very true point, but i seem to remeber winning more than anything else at portman road. ill just pop my rose tinted glasses back in there box now...
unbelievablue- i know still cant belive it myself, honestly it was like taking the one ring of power back to mordor...
farringdon- they just didnt get it. as i said above i didnt give them all the answers i did above, just the main points like the playoffs. they couldnt grasp life without the champions league, signing whoever they want, winning trophys etc basicly being a real madrid (or any other big club for that matter) means victory as a standard. answered with the old victory to ipswich means more to me than any other club argument but they just did not understand. was quite a healthy debate until they left for the ArenA, but guess you just hasd to be there :)
