Luongo, Aluko and Chirewa Offered Terms But Keogh, Penney, Coleman and Vincent-Young Released
at 18:02:36

To @help - that's a pretty harsh comment about how badly the academy boys have done. The current u21s got to the semi-final of the Youth Cup a couple of years ago, going out to Liverpool - a huge achievement and the best for many years by a youth team. A big chunk of those lads have been injured badly and have been out for months and the rest have done what the club asked of them which is to go out on loan and get some experience in the men's game. The players that have been left playing this season have done ok, many playing up a couple of years which is a big leap physically at that age.
Those that have performed for their loan clubs have also had an hand in the first team success, often training with them and doing shape-work etc. It would have been a nice gesture for the club to invite them to the awards dinner or the celebration event in Christchurch Park in recognition of this especially as the club knew they wouldn't be staying. Cutbush and Alexander have been there for 13 years!! The first team success has meant that these boys have been released rather than being taken along on the crest of the winning wave!
With luck, those young lads will stay positive and pick up a new club and keep working hard. Good luck to them all in their careers ahead - they have had an excellent grounding in this academy and deserve to do well in whatever they choose to do next.

Quite a few missing by the looks of things - Stewart, Armin, Alexander, Curtis, Chirewa - makes a huge difference not having them all in the team.

backwaywhen - this one was played at Portman Road. I think we have to play at least 2 at the main stadium - otherwise at the training ground.

U21s Open Season With Victory Over Wigan
at 18:51:46

This was a good game and sides closely matched although we had the edge right through. Their penalty was against the run of play and we showed good character to come back. Humphreys and Alexander in midfield were very strong - not many misplaced passes at all by either of them - and Alexander took his chance to get us back on terms. Buabo's was a wonder goal and Chirewa's was class too! Ward is super-quick and lost his man several times - shame he didn't pick up a goal for his efforts.
All in all a great start to the season. Well done lads.

U21s Open Season With Victory Over Wigan
at 18:31:44

bobwya - this always seems to cause confusion.
There are 2 u/21 leagues at our level - north and south. South currently has 9 teams including us. We play the other 8 teams twice in the season, one at home and one away.
North currently has 10 teams in total - we play each of them once in the season - 5 at home and 5 away - probably the other way round to last season's venues.
The north league does the same format.
At end of season there are playoffs between top 2 in each league to get an overall winner.
Hope that helps.

U23s Win at Leiston
at 15:15:36

The lads played well last night - much better than their first preseason game at Coggeshall where the team looked a little rusty!
Chesworth and Alexander had control of the midfield and boys took their chances well. Armin and Stewart with solid games at the back too. Could have had a couple more I think!
Young team in the second half but didn't look out of their depth at all.
Well done lads.

U18s Manager Atay Resigns

You will be sadly missed, Adem, by the players and their parents. I have had the pleasure of knowing you for several years as we moved up the age groups. You have always been up front with the boys and honest with us as parents, always approachable and had the boys' welfare and development at the forefront in all our dealings with you. Thank you. We wish you all the very best wherever you go next.

U23s Suffer Play-Off Heartbreak After Nine-Goal Thriller
at 17:34:51

The lads should all be very proud of what they have achieved this season. Also missing today - in addition to Baggott who is mentioned in the write-up - was midfielder Alexander and forward Curtis as well as Dobra and Simpson - I'm assuming they were all injured as a couple of the squad are much younger.
Remember the losing feeling that you have tonight lads and make a mental note that you don't want to experience it very often. Today's feeling is just as important in your learning as training is on the pitch. Use it to your advantage in your careers. Good Luck to you all.

Dobra on Target as U23s Beat Posh to Return to Top
at 17:18:10

They did well today without many of their usual squad who played on Weds for u/18s in their cup final.
Once again Alexander had a strong dependable captain's game in midfield. The new trialist impressed at LB and goalie Ridd had a couple of great saves to keep them out of trouble in 1st half. Ward has great feet and a good burst of speed putting their defence in all sorts of trouble.
Long season still continues now that they have guaranteed their play-off place - just need to see if they finish top or second to determine who they play.

U23s Return to Top After Win at Bristol City
at 18:06:29

Thanks to Bristol City for streaming this match. Humphreys and Alexander bossed the midfield, Chirewa was selfish when he could have passed the ball and missed good chances as a result, the (unnamed) trialist was impressive and Ward took his chance well. An accomplished performance and well-deserved table-toppers. Two matches to go - it is totally in their hands now if they want to make the play-offs.

Cook: Armin Playing Well on Debut Came as No Surprise
at 16:48:04

I thought Armin had a solid game and gave a very good account of himself. There are others that should get their chances this season too - Baggott, Alexander, Curtis, Ward, Humphreys - they are doing a solid job week in, week out for 23s. I agree with Cook tho' - introduce them gradually into a confident team that they can feel proud to be a part of.

Fans Admitted to U23s Opener Against Sky Blues

budgieplucker - I am sure there will be more games at Portman Road throughout the season. The rules state:
Each club must host at least five league matches at their main stadium during the course of the season, which helps to enhance the matchday experience for the young players and fans.
Fingers crossed - some of them will be in the evening.
