Real deja vu stuff. Burns was poor today imo, too often playing the ball back rather than taking a player on. I thought the Fridge was immense though. Deserves to keep his place. Lacking much spark in midfield and up front. NB was poor but took his goal well. |

Mmmmm... this is getting very annoying. Times are hard and folk are doing their best. It's great that ordinary supporters are chipping in. But what about our friendly corporate supporters? Our 'caring, sharing' players could have a whip-round and raise that money in minutes. Their wages, even at our level, are a whole world away from the rest of us. Same goes for our 'legends'. If all the Beat's ex-teammates stuck their hands in their back pockets, this money could have been raised months ago. |

I like Waghorn a lot... but what have all these players got in common? Mariner, Brazil, Wark, Muhren, Talbot, Butcher, Murphy etc etc. Yup, we sold them. Nothing new here. As soon as we have a star, other clubs come sniffing. |

agreed about the ref. As a former ref myself, I leapt up from the sofa yelling penalty. How on earth could he not see that? There was actually a case for a red card there. I thought it was an obvious goal-scoring opportunity... Really hope Murph plays in the next game and scores! |
| News Comment | Murphy's Ireland Beat Italy to Reach Last 16 at 08:42:17
Murphy was terrific last night. He shouldn't have been subbed either. It showed why he should have played against Belgium. Here's a snippet from today's Irish Times... Daryl Murphy a vital ally for Shane Long Shane Long is Ireland's premier striker and came into the tournament off the back of a fine season for Southampton, but it made gruesome viewing watching him getting bullied and manhandled by Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in Bordeaux. On Wednesday Martin O'Neill opted to partner Long with Daryl Murphy and Ireland reaped the benefits. Murphy has obvious limitations, indeed, he has now gone more than 20 games without scoring a first goal for Ireland. Yet his presence alone helped transform Ireland in Lille. Rather than ceding possession every time the ball was knocked long Murphy was able to hold it up well, and he was a constant thorn for the Italians at set pieces. And while Long still didn't have any clear cut opportunities Murphy helped detract the attention of Barzagli, Ogbonna and Bonucci away from his speedy partner, and Ireland looked a better side for it. |
| News Comment | Muhren and Thijssen Back at Town at 21:24:55
For anyone too young to remember them, it really is hard to overestimate what a profound impact they had on out team and our club. We started playing football in a totally new and wonderful way. There were gasps from the terraces at the neat little triangles and lovely one-touch stuff we produced. It was simply magnificent. And of course they're right; if only we'd had a couple more players... Ah... really... those truly were the days. Two fine footballers, and two very fine men. Thank you. |
