Johan Cruyff is credited with starting the system when he managed Barcelona. One other aspect is that they aren't limited to 90 minutes per day coaching as our academies are, which may explain a little of the difference. Barcelona are also one of the most wealthy clubs in the world, so don't have to chase income (i.e. they can put style above results for a period, without the pressure)
If Town tried it (and wouldn't we all love to see the end result if it was like Barcelona) the results would be several years coming through - and we have fans moaning because we haven't signed anyone in May so patience may be in short supply, and not just from the owner |
