Owner Evans Apologises for Careful What You Wish For Comment
at 14:05:54

Evans, while seemingly well intentioned, has proven over the last decade or so that he has no idea how to run a football club (other than into the ground).

Town Confirm Triple Signing
at 19:13:33

Happy enough with all three, look solid additions to the squad. Glad we were able to get them all in despite the salary cap! I'm not sure what those who are underwhelmed were expecting really?

Town Closing in On Cornell and Hawkins
at 17:11:58

Good news, both decent additions to supplement the squad we've got imo (and Ward too with his experience). Finally a proper big target man option up front, we've only been waiting what, four years since Murphy left?!

McCarthy: Gerks' Place Never in Doubt
at 11:23:30

@Fat_Boy_Tim Erm Gerken only missed 4 games at the start of the season, and one of those he was injured so he hasn't really had a chance to talk about moving to another club, what with him having just signed for us and all..

Evans's Salary Cap Proposal Scrapped
at 10:55:48

The more I hear about the Premier League, the more I think maybe we should just close it off so that there is no promotion from the Championship. At the moment, I want Town to do well and be challenging up the league, but I'm really not sure i would enjoy a season in the top flight anymore. These are the same bullying tactics they used to get the E.P.P.P passed. It's disgraceful that 20 of the 92 ''professional' clubs hold all the power like this because the other 72 can't afford to lose the so called 'solidarity payment'.

Half-Empty (or Half-Full)
at 20:47:24

I get your point about the acoustics, and I'm sure the old style stand kept the sound in better, but I don't think it's the main blame for the current lack of atmosphere. Here is a table of Town's average attendances over the last 11 seasons (geeky I know haha):

Season Avg. Pos.
2002/03 25454 4th
2003/04 24519 5th
2004/05 25651 5th
2005/06 24252 3rd
2006/07 22444 7th
2007/08 21932 7th
2008/09 20873 8th
2009/10 20840 8th
2010/11 19614 9th
2011/12 18266 12th
2012/13 17326 11th (to date)

So since 2002/03 our average attendance has dropped by just over 8100. The 'Pos.' column is our position in the average attendance table in the Championship (or Division 1) that season - we used to be one of the highest supported clubs in the league, but now are only mid table. Also, the attendance average has dropped yearly, except for 04/05 where we were top at Christmas.

I remember it being a lot louder back in the days of 2003-05/06ish, when we were challenging higher up the league and had a more exciting team. The atmosphere took its biggest hit in my opinion starting in Magilton's last season through to now, when the team on the whole seemed to be full of journeymen players who were here for the cash and not too bothered about winning for Ipswich. There were some exceptions, like derbies and the Arsenal game, and I feel that the atmosphere has improved slightly towards the end of this season as Mick McCarthy has done a great job of making the fans feel like the players want to play for the club again.

Sorry for the long post!

Boro to Seek Clarification
at 20:54:38

Unofrtunately, if you look on the back of a matchday ticket, it clearly states

"The Club offers free or reduced admission to replays of abandoned games to those who had purchased tickets for the original match. If a match is abandoned after spectators are admitted to the ground but before kick off, ticket holders are entitled to free admission to the rearranged match. If a match is abandoned after kick off, spectators are entitled to half price admission to the rearranged match".

Whether you agree with it or not, the Club have a clearly stated policy for such occasions as this.

Town Vote Against Academy Proposals

The Premier League juggernaught rolls over all opposition again. I'm glad Town were one of the few to try and stand up for themselves, but ultimately by effectively holding the Football League clubs to ransom the PL win again. They reckon this will somehow benefit FL sides in the future, but I fail to see how... Many clubs (especially lower down the ladder) rely on bringing through youth and then selling the best of them on to try to make a profit. This will now become unworthwhile as there's always the risk that the best players will leave for a paltry sum.

Also, the PL argument that this will benefit the England side doesn't hold for me either. I presume they're basing this on the assumption that being at the 'better' clubs means young players will have access to higher quality coaching and thus will reach a higher playing level. I don't think that, except the top 5-6 clubs, the coaching will necessarily be much better in the PL than in the FL. Also, as we've seen with Connor Wickham, going to even a pretty average PL side like Sunderland will seriously reduce the chances of playing regualr first team football and gaining match experience, negatively affecting a player's growth.

A better idea imo would be to improve the technical coaching of young players at grassroots level at really young ages - try to find a balance being having fun but also learning good technique at the same time.

Jewell Makes Offer for Second Striker
at 09:59:35

"Jewell is hoping for up to seven more additions before pre-season starts on June 29th and then further signings by the time the new season gets going"

So that means possibly nine new players in before the end of the month (including Chopra and Ingimarsson) and some more still after that! It's exciting but I hope it's not too much all at once...

I wonder if Gary Hooper from Scunthorpe is worth a punt? He's got 31 in 62 for them (1 in 2), and 8 in the league this season. We would need to let someone go if we sign another striker though I think, as we've got Stead, John, Priskin, Counago and Wickham (and even Walters, but I think he's better in midfield).
