Difference between GB and UK?
at 11:48 27 Jul 2021

Yeah that's absolutely a fair criticism - and as you say nothing's ever going to be universally popular!

(that name would only be to replace the current 'Team GB' shorthand btw, it would still have the fully inclusive official name in this hypothetical scenario)

Genuine suggestion - 'Team GB+'

It's not perfect but is a balance between being slightly more representative than what we have now and not an absolute mouthful!

We should try to get adidas to do a version of this for our away kit next season (love an orange away kit)!

edit: added 'try to'

Lewis a naughty boy?
at 20:15 18 Jul 2021

100% this.

Verstappen has always been an aggressive and at times borderline dirty driver, not leaving space, squeezing other drivers off the track, double movements and late moves in the breaking zone...

Several times earlier this season Hamilton has sensibly backed out of moves to avoid contact and done Verstappen a big favour. But with all the trash talk from Horner, Verstappen and Helmut Marko over the last few weeks I think he's decided to stop letting Verstappen be a bully.

All this talk about unsportsmanlike conduct and disrespect from Red Bull. It's far past time Verstappen learnt how to respect other drivers and race safely wheel to wheel.

This incident has been coming all season.

Edit: also I was not surprised in the least to see Hamilton penalised despite it being a clear racing incident. At least he won anyway.

Has anyone seen Macauley Bonne actually play? (n/t)

You've reminded me that I once nutmegged Jordan Rhodes' brother (Lewis?) to score in training. Sadly that's probably the highlight of my football 'career'.

Except maybe the time Mick Mills said I look pacey. He was wrong!

In case anyone's not aware there are stock checker accounts on twitter which let you know whenever PS5 stock drops. e.g. @PS5StockAlertUK @StockCheckerUK @PS5UKStockAlert @IGNUKDeals - just make sure to turn notifications on!

Also beware of scammers/scalpers who sometimes leave replies on these accounts' tweets claiming to have consoles for sale - they're either fake or priced over the odds

Shambolic, embarassing, insipid...
at 17:48 6 Mar 2021

Just to elaborate as I feel like the message of my OP has been lost a little, I like Paul Cook and he was my first/only choice for the job (and has been for a couple of years so I was v. excited when he joined). I'm just disappointed that we were so off the pace, out fought and out thought by a mid-table team (and fair play to Gillingham, they thoroughly deserved the win). I realise it's extremely early days and he's barely met the players so far, and that it will take time to turn things around. And as far as I'm concerned his record at his previous clubs shows he absolutely can do that (although a change of ownership will hopefully make that process smoother, if it happens). So in no way am I saying he's suddenly a bad manager or anything like that (which while I can understand people took it that way as I didn't phrase it as well as I could have, was not my intention in the OP). Just that it's not the start we all hoped for.

Guess I'm just frustrated at how bad we've been on average over such a long period, and I was only hoping to see some kind of evidence of positivity, fight and willingness to attack the opposition goal today, even if it was only small (like in the last 3 games).

Also, I posted this immediately after Gillingham's 3rd goal so I was bit hacked off at the time lol

Yep, not completely blaming Cook btw - these kind of performances have been years in the making and the squad needs a clear out. Just saying it’s not a good start, let’s hope it gets better from here!

Pathetic. Not a good start.

(And I wanted Cook to get the job)

I remember he almost got Leicester relegated the season before they won the title... Also the time he 'pretended' to strangle James McArthur 'for a laugh'. Not for me thanks!

Might get wooshed here but...

This is common practice, happens on most if not all transfers these days. Might as well get this stuff done while waiting for the red tape to be sorted rather than just sit around!

Completely agree - people saying that have conveniently forgotten that Bottas has been consistently outclassed by Hamilton in the same machinery for 4 years, so not just 'anyone' can win in a Mercedes.

Also doesn't take into account that George Russell is one of the brightest talents in Formula 1 atm - I actually reckon that he and Leclerc will be the stars in a few years time (with Verstappen there or thereabouts)

Edit: to add that your point about Hamilton's role in the development of the car is spot on as well - it's no coincidence that he went there in 2013 and Mercedes suddenly started winning everything in 2014. Feels like a lot of people forget/don't realise that F1 is a team sport, and the best drivers play a much larger role than just hopping in the car on a Saturday and Sunday

Bahrain F1 GP - very nasty crash for Grosjean!
at 14:56 29 Nov 2020

Horrible to see, props to the marshalls and medical car for their quick actions to help as well. Glad to see Grosjean got away with relatively minor injuries given the circumstances.

Also props to the inventor of the halo, which it looks like helped to save his life
