This from yesterday on Kieffer Moore to Ipswich 👇 #ITFC are still working on a deal for Marvin Johnson if a fee can be agreed with Sheffield Wednesday, which could go to the wire #SWFCpic.twitter.com/wOa2DXKGpl
I personally think we are close to the limit of FFP and cannot 'splash the cash' too much but I hadn't thought of the 2/3 scenarios presented.
1. We 'go for it' knowing these opportunities don't come along often and splash out 15-20m on players with the knowledge we can always sell on an asset like Leif Davis should we fail to rebalance our FFP
2. We frontload signing on fee promises to players, with our league position we are now attractive and could offer high promotion bonus clauses to get players to PR
3. You can get loan players at clubs to be recalled by their parent club and sent to clubs further up the chain. e.g Jay Stansfield at Birmingham
So, do we 'go for it' ? Upside is we may hold onto assets like Leif Davis/McKenna himself if we go up. Downside if we don't is we'll have to sell assets and hamstring us in terms of spending for a few seasons.
Was using boardreader to see what a few championship clubs forums thought of our start but boy did I not expect to see a 9 page thread on us on Man Citys forum!
Sheffield Wednesday have been fined £50,000 and warned as to their future conduct for crowd control misconduct at the EFL League One match against Peterborough United on Thursday 18 May 2023.
Of our 3 Prem loanees both Hutchinson & Williams are regularly contributing now and only Dane seems to be struggling for game time.
He's had whats amounted to about 60 minutes of football so far, and has looked tidy on the ball and made some good runs at Huddersfield without looking like scoring yet.
You do wonder when he will get a chance or be able to force himself into the team but its a long season. How annoying is it that Spurs cup tied him?
Is the Williams deal essentially us buying him now but with a bit of trickery thrown in?
Look at it from Man Uniteds perspective, they don't want to take up the year option and put themselves on the hook for his wages i'd assume. Therefore they know they must sell before his contract expires. In this case a loan with an option to buy would make no sense as he is a free agent at the end of the loan.
They and we know we cannot afford his rumoured wages in full and the player would not give up a year on what he is on.
Have we essentially bought him and structured the deal so we are loaned him and pay 10-20% of his wage and have an obligation that we must buy him for a pre-agreed amount and all parties (2 clubs & player) will have signed off on this?
His contract is up at the end of the season, i'd assumed before Waltons injury we were happy to let it run out and for Slicker to take no.2
If he carries on like this, do we offer a new contract or do we listen to offers in January given he will have had a showcase in the Champ and decent keepers at this level are sought after?
On Sheff Uniteds channel. For those that like keeping an eye on the future players.
The sort of thing that should be on TownTV for subscribers. Infact I just noticed the spiel for a monthly subscription includes getting U21 games played at 'Portman Road' but then all the fixtures listed for U21 are being played at Playford Road?
Has anyone had their free trial run out yet and been offered new terms?
Remember them saying they were always offering 'deals' - I'd probably renew for another say £6 for 6 months deal but in no way is it worth it at £8 a month for those living outside the IP area.
They still haven't come up with a plan for just purchasing Town coverage either.
Pity, as I think Alex Jones has done a commendable job in stepping into Warrens shoes - intelligent, and knows his football.
Genuinely thought in the first half of last season he was your average journeyman league one centre half and wondered why we had signed him but he came in and did a good job at the tail of last season and has been immense this.
Great in the air, strong, and comfortable on the ball... and I personally think a better long range passer than Wolfy.
His weakness is of course his pace but since that torrid time at Cambridge last season you can probably count on one hand the number of times he got turned by a forward. I've seen some suggest that he will be one who is replaced at champ level but I think this is harsh and he definitely deserves the opportunity to play at this level.
Would be disappointed if pace is seen as everything, let's not forget we had a defence of John Wark & Dave Linighan get us promoted. Dave couldn't trap a bag of cement and Warky was hardly a gazelle at that stage of his career.
