 | News Comment | Gillingham 3-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 16:13:32
This comes as no surprise. The levels of hysteria and over optimism this week have been astonishing.... and in the football world that is always met by a kick in the nuts reality check. For most of the season we've been bl**dy awful, a mile off the level we need to be in an already dreadful division. Last time I'll say it....."you can't polish a turd" ! |
 | News Comment | Cook's First Town Press Conference - Part One at 08:11:12
It's funny to think that by this time next year, PC will be receiving the obligatory vitriolic comments from the people who've welcomed him recently with adoration. It's been a consistent practice since Mick. I'm glad we've made the change, but I see little changing until the owner leaves. Between me and you Paul...."Don't be saying complimentary things on here about Chambo. You've opened yourself up to all manner of abuse.People will have logged this away for future reference if things go pear shaped".It's not a groundbreaking or earth shattering appointment, but hopefully one that brings a steady, gradual improvement. Toto hasn't become Van Dijk, nor Downes become De Bruyne, nor Norwood become Aguero. Experience of life and football means a 'feet firmly planted' reaction is the realistic way forward. We haven't suddenly become a world power, no one is envious of us, we aren't going to win the champions league by 2024, nor is East Anglia going to host the world cup in 2036. Wishing luck and success to the new man however. You're inheriting a squad with plenty of promise. I hope you're able to bring out more than just the odd glimpse of it. |
 | News Comment | Town Confirm Cook Appointment at 14:32:38
I'll admit to being about as excited as when Mick,Hurst, Lambert took charge. I'm still not expecting to win promotion this season, or champions league success within 3yrs, or East Anglia to host the world cup in 2034. Surely until a new owner is in place Paul Cook will be the next in a long line of managers who receive zero backing from the top, and after a pleasant few months with the backing of the supporters will then feel their wrath also. Whilst it's far from the dawn of a new era I wish good luck to Paul Cook and hope for an upturn in our fortunes.... tempered with.... 'you cant polish a turd' ! |
 | News Comment | Who is Paul Cook? at 09:46:35
I too find this potential appointment uninspiring. An indication of where we're at and how insignificant we currently are in the football world. Without becoming delirious I wanted change, but without the owner leaving its irrelevant who's in charge of the team....he'll get no backing. However, I do look at our squad and believe that somebody should be able to get more out of them and make it far more pleasing on the eye. The only thing I remember about Cook....when we played at Wigan a few seasons back and kicked the ball out in order for one of their's to get treatment, he instructed them not to give it back. A minor detail, but i instantly thought 'what a tw*t'. An exciting new chapter or a case of 'just when you thought it couldn't get any worse'. Reserving judgement. |
 | News Comment | Boss Lambert and Assistant Taylor Leave Town at 22:02:51
Well I'm certainly more pleased than disappointed, and it suggests that the takeover news is more than just a lazy headline. Whilst it doesn't guarantee success or the better times that we all crave, hopefully it's a step in the right direction. God help us if this time next season we're commenting on here that we...."should have stuck with Lambert"!! |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 2-1 Doncaster Rovers - Match Report at 18:10:41
A heartening run of results and nice to banish the top 6 hoodoo. A tad fortuitous today which was the case with many of our victories early season, so feet are still firmly planted, though I'll look at the table tonight with a bit more optimism. What surprises me is that this little patch of 7pts from 9 against a trio of the better sides has coincided with a settled line up consisting of a back four ....three of whom I didnt think I'd see at all this season, other than in the Mickey Mouse cup. Hope I'm sure will eventually lead to anti climatic disappointment, but credit where it's due, it's been a good fortnight. |
 | News Comment | QPR Watching Dozzell at 14:34:47
Needs to up his performances enormously to be playing in the championship. When it comes to the crunch, not many sides at a higher level are seriously interested in our youngsters. This will probably blow over when they realise there are better midfielders at other league 1 clubs. |
 | News Comment | Nydam Returns to Action as U23s Host QPR at 12:59:46
Wasn't at all impressed when I saw Nydam. Tidy enough, but like Dozzell he appeared very lightweight, and I really couldn't fathom what his strengths would be. That aside, 'good luck to him'. Hope he can fulfil the potential that others have seen in him. |
 | News Comment | Gill: Real Opportunity to Build on Saturday's Performance at 17:19:25
I'm aware it's not a science, but one slightly improved performance has generally been followed by two shockers this season. A home draw against Doncaster isn't out of the question, but that will be the sum total of our weeks achievement. I've chosen to remove any last lingering hope of success, and accepted that another season is petering out into nothing. |
 | News Comment | Blues Host Oxford Aiming to Upset Form Book at 14:59:07
Instead of putting myself through the wringer and experiencing every horrible minute of the next two games, I may switch everything off until wednesday morning and then read up on the 2-0 and 3-0 defeats at my own leisure! |
 | News Comment | Lambert: Downes Will Learn to Control Aggression at 12:34:56
Doesn't have the required maturity currently to change his game. I wouldn't say he's dirty....just a bit petulent and stupid (a prerequisite to being a professional footballer). |
 | News Comment | Lambert: I Won’t Have a Player Say They’d Rather Be at Home With the Wife and Kids at 12:27:18
The problem for me is...why dont they ever look as if they want to play when they're actually on the pitch?!! We've had about 25 players who look 'bored as ****' this season. It's a 50/50 split for me. The players are as culpable as the manager, but we're stuck with the situation because the manager wont be forced out and no one wants our players. A club in decay.I honestly believe we'll be in league two within the next two seasons. |
 | News Comment | Jackson and Nolan Banished to U23s at 12:26:33
As has been the case for a few years now, players who perform at such a bl**dy awful level when they're on the pitch suddenly become everybody's favourites when they're not in the side. Nolan gets involved for 10mins of each game, Jackson for considerably more, but only to keep running the ball out of play with his dreadful first touch and imaginary pace! |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-0 Northampton Town - Highlights at 08:25:07
All quite pathetic. From the performance,to the behaviour of the ever maturing Downes.....and please dont mistake being a c*ck for passion. I still care, but I've never cared so little. I can't believe this is the same club that had me shedding tears of joy and despair in the 70's and 80's. Right now it feels as if the history and tradition of this club has been erased, and I'm not sure that this feeling of numbness is going away any time soon. I'm convinced that league 2 is just around the corner. |
 | News Comment | Training Suspended Due to Blue Action Protest Fire at 11:42:22
Protest, pretend to be passionate, but don't act like neanderthals.Take your brains with you ! Most of the people who engage in this type of activity wouldn't bother if they didnt have their phones with them and it wasnt going straight onto Youtube. It's all about getting their 15mins of fame. Anybody defending this behaviour probably found themselves masturbating over the footage of the insurrection in America !! |
 | News Comment | Blackburn Eyeing Dozzell at 17:48:16
I lost sleep as a 17yr old when in 1983 our squad began to disband, and again in 2002/3 when Burley's talented group started to filter away. Not one player in this current squad would cause me a moments grief if they were to leave, and it bothers me when I read a headline and think...'I couldn't care less' ! |
 | News Comment | Gill: A Game We Have to Win at 17:09:43
I can't remember the last time we came out on top in a....'got to win' 'must win' game. I would imagine it was under Burley! At this club you only enhance your reputation if your not in the side, such is the scarcity of good performances by those on the pitch. A 2-0 defeat tomorrow and our first foray into the bottom half. |
 | News Comment | Town Sign Matheson on Loan From Wolves at 20:29:53
I remember him as a 9yr old playing for Rochdale at Old Trafford and a lot was made of him because he was in school the next day. We are currently a very lightweight outfit with no individual pace and very little movement in our play. His inclusion will do little to help.If we go with 3-5-2 then fine. If we stick with the horrible system that we usually adopt then set piece goals against us will be common place. Loanees or not, either way we are so ordinary that a promotion push is highly unlikely. |
