| News Comment | Baggott in Teams of the Week at 10:56:58
This is good news. My mates over in Bristol had suggested a few weeks ago that he should be sent back to us immediately. Their criticism of him was scathing. Thinking it was a wind up I checked the Rovers twitter page, where similar comments were being posted. Surprising, as I'd always thought he'd performed very well when called upon by us, and would have had no issues about him being used in our first string this season. Glad he's now settled, as he definitely has a successful future ahead of him. |
| News Comment | Ipswich Town 1-1 Middlesbrough - Match Report at 17:43:00
Remarkably its starting to look like Southampton and one other. Another missed opportunity, but had you told me we'd be gaining a point on Leeds and Leicester this weekend I'd have been delighted. Hopefully that stupid calculator machine has exploded by now. Nothing is making sense. Three draws may get it done! |
| News Comment | Leaders Leicester Lose at Plymouth at 22:42:34
I'm at the stage where I wouldn't put 50p on any of the top three winning another game this season. Southampton now have a terrific chance. Whoever does miss out are going to rue many missed opportunities. The most profound and accurate statement in the football world is....you turn the table upside down for the last 6-8 games of the season. Teams facing relegation certainly pick up more points than those chasing promotion. No one wants it ! |
| News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-0 Watford - Match Report at 22:05:25
All a bit of a shapeless mess. And a very comfortable evening for Watford. Other than for the last 15mins of the first half this was us at our worst. Slow, predictable, and lacking guile. At this rate whichever side wins one of their last four will goo up. And the recent slip ups by the top three has meant that Southampton are right back in the race. Any kind of win now is absolutely gold dust. |
| News Comment | Leicester and Leeds Drop Points at 08:01:17
Wins are now like gold dust. The teams fighting relegation generally pick up more points over the last eight games than those at the top end. We think we need to win five; the likelihood is that three wins and a draw will get it done. Incredible wobbles for Leicester and Leeds last night. It'll come as no surprise if we're held tonight by a dangerous, free spirited, fast opposition like Watford. |
| News Comment | Hladky: Contract is Not Yet Signed But I Want to Stay Here at 07:49:03
I'd have Walton as No1 every day of the week. Hladky puts the sh*ts up me since we started the 'faffing about at the back' nonsense. A decent shot stopper and instinctive keeper, who has nearly but not quite been bad enough to drop. The Norwich goal was poor. It had neither the pace or dip to have been considered threatening. Overall, he's been far better than I thought he'd be after his poor initial showings for us, but I'd certainly let him go ahead of Walton. |
| News Comment | Norwich City 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 14:41:13
A desperately poor performance. We looked mildly interested from the 85th min onwards, but up until then it was a sorry show, and not one associated with an ultra important derby match. Unfortunately this won't be the last fixture.....or defeat to Norwich this season. Perhaps we've used up all of our 'get out of jail cards'. A peculiar performance from a team supposedly brimming with confidence ! |
| News Comment | Martin: We Were the Best Team, We Didn't Deserve to Lose at 23:42:59
He isn't wrong. For 65mins we didn't deserve to be on the same pitch as them, and were sleepwalking our way to an inevitable defeat. We seem to lull teams into a false sense of security, but from next to nowhere we summon up these extraordinary powers of recovery when all seems lost. This particular game is even harder to explain than Leicester, WBA, or Bristol City. Remarkable resilience. |
| News Comment | Ipswich Town 3-2 Southampton - Match Report at 19:57:48
I'm lost for words. For 65mins we didn't deserve to be on the same pitch as them. Al Hamadi hitting the post suddenly lifted the belief, and the memory of previous extraordinary finales this season resurfaced. The resilience of this group is truly unbelievable. |
| News Comment | Duo in Team of the Week at 14:48:24
Ironically at a time where he (Hladky) is starting to scare the crap out of me. His propensity to freeze and constantly take the wrong option will eventually cost us. A good shot stopper....yes, but his decision making is exceptionally alarming. |
| News Comment | Eustace: I Think We've Been Hard Done By at 05:41:55
I think he has a point. Yes we had a nailed on penalty not given, but their disallowed goal was ridiculous, and the other one very tight, which personally looked level. We played the poorest of the three contenders, but have been rewarded with a near perfect set of results. |
| News Comment | Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 19:49:45
On seeing Troy Deeney and Nigel Pearson in the studio, and then realising we had a female commentator, I knew it was gonna be a tough watch. An awful performance then followed. For weeks my 'neutral' mates have been remarking that we are 'dogsh*t'. It aptly describes this showing. But somehow we grind it out despite inviting a very poor opposition an equaliser. But thankfully we were helped by some ridiculously soft refereeing decisions. I'm sure I'll find some crumbs of comfort when I analyse it more thoroughly. Being top papers over it for now, but performances like this will not see us over the line. Sorry for the honesty. |
| News Comment | Broadhead and Moore's Wales Out to Secure Euro 2024 Place at 14:02:55
Good luck to all involved. But I can't help thinking that a team that finishes third in a group of five should not be getting a second chance at it......and that's putting it very politely. Its a bloody joke to be honest. |
| News Comment | McKenna: Improving Wednesday Certainly Not One of the Lower Teams in the Division at 18:39:50
Get out of the blocks quicker, play further up the park with a lot more pace and intensity, get balls into the box instead of getting into the final third and working it back to Hladky. Try your luck from 25yards instead of pretending to be the Barcelona side of 2010 and attempting to score the perfect goal. Less piddling about at the back, less standing on the edge of our own box for 3mins playing meaningless one-twos and putting the sh*ts up everyone. Let's play with the freedom that epitomised us and scared the life out of teams earlier in the season, instead of having to sit through 70mins of the most formulaic of dross before realising that we have to get out of first gear if we want to get anything from the game. I've no doubt we'll have to do it the hard way again tomorrow. |
| News Comment | Evans Aiming to Return to On-Fire Town Form at Pompey at 10:21:07
Fully fit I'd still pick him ahead of Taylor, Travis, Ball and Harness. We saw a lot of very very good stuff from Lee Evans, but we possibly never saw the best. Portsmouth gives him the opportunity of another few seasons at a very high level.....perhaps and likely to be coming up against us next season. |
| News Comment | Moore in Team of the Week at 23:12:12
PutneyBlue.....I've been saying it for a month or two. It seems absolutely obvious doesn't it ? |
| News Comment | Cardiff City 2-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 16:44:48
Two poor sides on the day creating an awful game of football. I was bored witless in that stadium today. A goal out of nowhere almost sent us home with 3 undeserved pts. Two goals out of nowhere sent us home with nothing. I'd have grudgingly accepted a pt as the performance warranted nothing more. To leave with nothing is a choker. I don't trust us at the moment. We can't continue to play sh*t for 70mins and hope a breathtaking final 20 bails us out. And ironically we were beaten at the death by the sort of deliveries that Moore would have been crying out for. We were formulaic today, slow and predictable, reluctant to cross or shoot. And not surprisingly two mates from Cardiff have text me....."how the **** are you fighting for promotion". Sometimes I'm at a loss to explain. |
