I'll just take the win and not over-think it too much. We need the good feel, but it wasn't a 9/10 performance. It was very easy to switch over to the rugby with 15 minutes to go knowing we'd won and wasn't going to miss much. |

There isn't a thread about Taylor being outstanding.... that's why Taylor isnt getting any remarks about his performance. There's hardly any remarks about Phillips being cr@p, but many who are just putting the OP straight by saying he's just OK, but not outstanding. I do not understand this lovefest with Phillips. We brought him in so that he could be a standout player and paid over the odds for the privilege.... and we're getting just OK performances. No hate.... no nasty digs.... but he is so not living up to expectations. Think some are doing a Bonnie Tyler and holding out for a hero. Alas, that seems long gone. |

Is he? Great engine, but he hasn't got much trickery to beat a defender one on one. Think he excels where he's the extra man on the overlap, but that means we're exposed at the back. Think his stock has gone down this season. I wish him well and if we can get good money for him still, maybe it's time for him to move on. Wonder if he's reached his peak with us and he's got to look after his career, too. |

This isnt a dig at Kieran.... but he can't improve every bloody player. The amount of players ... Teddy, Andre, etc who'd be top-class PL players if they'd had a couple of training sessions under Kieran. Kieran's got his work cut out trying to improve the current lot. |

Haters will be haters? What are you talking about? He's had more than enough chances to nail down a starting spot. He simply hasn't done enough We - the fans - do not pick the side - Kieran does. If you want to put this down to hatred - have the balls to stick this on Kieran. We absolutely went all out to get him and revitalise his career - but he's nowhere near the player he was. |
 | Forum Reply | Sam Morsy at 10:57 26 Jan 2025
Not sure that its smart making big statements like attacking Morsy after playing Man City and Liverpool. They're not typical sides whichever league you're playing in. Mind you, I expected Phillips to come through, cement his place in the side and perhaps both dislodge Morsy and take the captaincy. Phillips has been OK at best. And OK at worst. But we're not paying him the big bucks to be just OK. If Phillips and Cajuste are head and shoulders above Morsy then no problem - but they're not. Everyone is looking for the easy fix whereby we buy in a superstar or offload a train wreck and then job's a good un. But maybe Kieran and his coaching squad need to do more with the players we've got. Not sure what his plan is as he seems to be tinkering too much. [Post edited 26 Jan 10:58]

Is his first point harsh? He hasn't improved in a year. Yes, it's a far higher level - but I can't see anything from him to suggest he's improved. And the best judge of all is Mr. McKenna. He wants to replace our best asset, Delap, after 60-70 minutes..... but is getting increasingly more distrustful of AAH and prefers to flog Delap longer and longer so that he can stick AAH on for only 5-10 minutes. He was a punt ( and a relatively cheap one) so let's all move on. |

Satisfied with last night? Is this a wind up? Completely possible not to over-react and be under-whelmed and disappointed with the team. This was a type of game we need to get points from... or at least put up more of a fight. If we maintain this level... we will be relegated. Need a better, more gutsy performance against City... even if we lose. Too easy for Brighton in the end. This trying to be too calm and sensible seems a bit contrived and fakey. If you're satisfied with that... why even bother watching games? |

I wouldn't mind a midfielder in the Kalvin Phillips mould. Same age, but form of 3 years ago. Don't think we need another CM if Phillips is still in the building. If Phillips can rekindle some of his peak form then it would like another signing. Been underwhelmed with him so far.... but all we need is for him to up his game for 10-15 more games ... and it might be enough. |

It did. I distinctly remember some getting their calculators out and calculating his goal to minute ratio ... and stating he was topping the charts. It was a weird and daft statement as he bundled some balls in at the end of some games when we'd already won these games and it didn't really reflect his real ability and worth to the team. But he put in the effort and many appreciated that, without showing much else. Point is.... if you don't like the comments at one end of the spectrum... then don't make them at the other end. Bit of balance and we'll take the rough with the smooth. |

OK... so we have to be more reasonable towards AAH and not be overly mean. Is it also possible to call out the "over-the-top" exaggerations about his ability last season when he scored 3 tap-ins and a dead-rubber penalty. He was hailed as the hottest property in football. After a couple of games, I couldn't work out what the fuss was about as he could hardly control a ball.... yet.... he ran around a lot and filled a void whilst Hirst was injured. For me, he needs to get out for his own good as if he sticks around it will just get worse. If a L1 or L2 club comes in with a 250k bid for him.... I'd accept. It was a punt and we can afford to take a comparatively small loss on him and both parties need to move on. A loan is more realistic, but surely it has to be L1 at best. |
