Ipswich Town 2-2 West Bromwich Albion - Match Report
at 15:22:11

Walton's got to be knocking at the door now. Hladky's either believing his own hype and labouring over the perfect pass, or he's pass-shy having conceded vs Preston. Either way his distribution has become a bit ponderous. Walton's a better shot stopper.

As others say, Hutch is worth a start. I think Al Ham is too.

Preston North End 3-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 18:20:34

Hindsight is wonderful, but Al Hamadi returned from Iraq with a knock early this week, and Moore hadn't trained with the squad yet.

I can understand McK wanting to show loyalty to regular starters after a new signing. It's a chance to show motivation to keep the shirt. KJ didn't take it. Next time, it might work out.

In terms of legitimate goals, we won 2-1 today. Stats all well in our favour. We've at least one promotion-standard Championship striker for the first time since Boxing Day. Win vs Southampton and games in hand and we're back in second. Rest of the season starts vs West Brom. COYB!

Wagner: A Deserved Point
at 17:07:11

XG, possession, and shot count disagree David. Analysis like that, and you can understand why he's underperforming so badly with such a massive parachute budget.

Norwich are largely irrelevant, bigger fish to fry this season.

Davis: I Was Always Confident I Was Making the Right Move
at 10:14:30

Yeh Cresswell is the nearest to Davis mould, and what a player he was. Passing is like a hall-of-fame quarterback. It tears oppo defences to shreds every game. Defensively he's stronger than early last season, competing well in the air now. Assists are off the hook. Leif's too good for the Championship. Retaining players like him is the biggest motivation to get promoted this season.

McKenna: Good Point From a Tough, Competitive Game
at 18:54:45

Given McK's unusual hesitancy when asked about the Morsy replacement decision on R Suffolk, I think he knows Evans didn't really work. Like he said though, any alternative was likely to be a step down. Onwards and upwards. Taylor is the obvious choice when Morsy is unavailable, but I think Harness has the attributes to fill that role. He twists & turns like Morsy, is strong on the ball, good passer & engine.

McKenna: Hladky Has Been Excellent
at 16:22:09

Yes Hladky's grown a pair since he first arrived. He was always better than Walton with his feet, but in his first season was quite frankly a wimp when competing for crosses, diving towards posts, and at the feet of oncoming strikers. Statistically was among the worst keepers in L1 that year. Totally transformed. Keepers must have a little bit of a "no pain, no glory" attitude, and I think he gets this now.

Jackson: Definitely a Good Feeling
at 08:24:14

Subs performed much better this week. Harness contributed much more too.

No better presser at the club than Jackson. He forces mistakes and wins a lot of possession. Great defensive qualities from advanced positions. He's been in top form since the start of pre-season with assists, and now he's got an important goal himself. I think he knows that 30 (in Feb) is getting on a bit for a speedster, and ITFC is probably as high a standard as he'll play. Explains perhaps why he appears super-motivated - thinking about his legacy. Long may it continue.

McKenna: Edwards at the Stage Where He Wants to Go and Start More Games
at 17:03:05

Harness is a different type of player to Edwards, more defensive and a ball-retainer.

Hutchinson is more of a direct comparison. His loan had better be worth it. Edwards is a player we could regret selling. Early days with Hutch, but Edwards is still the best one-on-one dribbler at the club IMO. I could more understand placing Hutch ahead of Edwards if he was our player, or a few years older. Most 19 year olds are inconsistent.

Pert No Fan of 13-Minute Injury Time
at 19:57:11

"would only work for injuries, subs and bookings" - nah, just give them x seconds to take a kickthrow. If they take longer, the clock stops. If they take it quicker than the x second threshold, the clock never stops.

Agree with all the comments that transparency is needed, per rugby. This extended added time is ripe for abuse. Just show the clock stopping so everyone knows and get rid of fricking added time!

McKenna: We Set a Good Tone For the Season
at 22:54:12

Most managers are red-top. McKenna is broadsheet. I'd like to see more managers call-out the missing transparency in added time. When the clock is stopped and for how long should be known. The egg-chasing sport has it right: count up to 45 minutes on the scoreboard, showing when the clock has stopped. Then everyone knows, and there's no Fergie or Stadium of Light time, and no need for fricking added minutes! Simples.

Sunderland 1-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 19:41:09

Luongo MoM. Was a haven of calm on the ball in the first half, when we were ruffled. Brought us into the game.

Really pleased to see Hladky being brave, coming for that punch. Would have bottled and stayed on his line in 21/22. Good body position for the final save, even if he didn't know much about it.

The subs didn't bring much, not sure Hutchinson was the man for that situation. Ladapo greedy at the end. Harness was waltzed past like he didn't care in lead-up to their goal. Absolutely loved the result tho.

McKenna: Walton Out For a Few Months
at 18:50:28

Statistically Hladky was the worst keeper in L1 in 21/22. Was "hilarious Hladky", apparently more concerned about his good looks than diving towards posts and dominating his six yard box. I'm instinctively mistrustful of good-looking keepers ;-) I'm not worried if he can sustain last season's form, when he was much improved. He's better with his feet than Walton, so if anything playing out from the back will be better.

El Mizouni Returns to Orient On Loan
at 20:02:29

Disappointing, Edris is ahead of Humphreys, Ball, and maybe Evans. I'd have loaned Humphreys instead. Anyway, relieved we aren't selling, hope he can repeat last season's improvement trajectory, and push for a first team place in 24/25.

Planning Permission Granted For Executive Boxes and Memorial Garden

Wonder if there's time to add these boxes before start of season, I'm guessing not. I thought they might have pushed up capacity over 30k again, but it's only an extra 56 seats according to the second pic. Few hundred short.

McKenna Delighted For El Mizouni
at 21:18:13

As great as Humphreys was in occassional appearances, he was inconsistent when asked to play every week. I don't see him as a regular starter in the Championship. Idris is probably ahead now, being four years his senior, and with a year's success at Orient under his belt. I'd say let Hump out for a season's loan (he'll return massively improved), and give Idris a chance to sniff around the first team instead.

Ashton: We're Going to Have to Look at the Capacity of the Stadium
at 15:41:06

Churchmans, I said within 40km. This includes North Essex and South Norfolk. This 1m catchment area is all ours except for Colchester. I assume you've done the full analysis as to why the data on https://www.freemaptools.com is incorrect?

Ashton: We're Going to Have to Look at the Capacity of the Stadium
at 11:21:12

Agreed VanDusen. Higher gates should be expected now. East Anglia is the fastest growing area of the UK after London. Grown 15.4% since 2002: https://www.plumplot.co.uk/East-of-England-population-changes.html

Plus we have a huge catchment area. Just under 1m people live within 40km of FPR. That's more than live near Norwich. Check for yourself: https://www.freemaptools.com/find-population.htm
Only Colchester are within it.

But yes should learn from mistakes. 2000s strife was caused by the fact we had no offload clause in the contracts of expensive players, so that in the event of relegation from the Prem and then failure to immediately bounce back, we were financially screwed. Wasn't specifically building the end-stands, which were on long-term repayment plans.
