Hurst: Leeds Knew We Were Switching System
at 17:06:28

We will never know if he was genuinely out of his depth or could have become another Bobby Robson? I remember a night early in the 71/72 season when many were calling for the great man to be sacked. Robson inherited a squad, some of whom did not buy into his ideas and he had to shift them on. In fairness to Hurst, McGoldrick and Garner wanted away for personal reasons and Waghorn wanted go as his head was turned by an offer of a massive pay increase. Mr Evans having been badly burned by Keane and Jewell was never going to let him have massive funds. Its not just huge fees but huge wages that are the norm these days for average players. It didn't work out for PH and we can only hope that Paul Lambert really is a genius!

Ipswich Town 2-3 Millwall - Match Report
at 23:14:55

Having had time to reflect on the game and dampen the emotion, I feel that we dominated for the first 20 minutes and with bit better finishing and luck could have been 3 up? Millwall came back into the game and a good one on one save from Gerkin kept the score level.
The general consencious at half time was 'wow, are we really this good? are Millwall this bad?' Obviously harsh words were delivered in the visiting dressing room at half time! despite all their goals had an element of good fortune about them, we were never really at the races and apart from our second goal which came out of nothing, we never troubled them at all. Sadly we are not good enough and despite the rhetoric I am beginning to wonder about the manager? We all want him to be the saviour but his previous later jobs have not exactly covered him in glory and despite talking a good game in the last few weeks it has not produced results on the pitch? Sad times!

QPR 3-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 22:24:30

Sorry ITFCsince73, I do not see players lacking in effort but lacking in quality. You mention the back four, I rest my case, lack of quality. Freddie is a striker who feeds off quality service. a cutting edge creates that service for Freddie to thrive! You could play Messi or Ronaldo up front but they would struggle with the lack of chances created!

QPR 3-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 11:42:08

I don't believe that the effort of the players can be questioned, they give their all and are an honest bunch. What is obvious is a lack of quality and in some players a lack of confidence (Bart for some reason an obvious example). Murphy has never been replaced and going back further, neither has David Wright or Jim Magilton. I thought that young Emmanuel had real potential but the three recent managers do not appear to share my opinion? The lack of a cutting edge that a Magilton type player offers is the most obvious problem and until we can offer a consistent threat then I am afraid the only way is down.
Under the current owner, unless he is willing or even able to provide huge sums to buy quality then we have to accept the situation. The championship is brutal and not a platform for youngsters to develop their potential, sadly the Beatties only come around once a lifetime! Lets hope for a miracle.

McCarthy Denies Aiming Tirade at Fans
at 16:45:22

The big Mick lovers defend him by siting emotion as an excuse for his foul mouthed gesture to the fans who spend their hard earned cash week after week watching the dreadful football HIS team serve up. Why do they criticise him? the answer is in the previous sentence, dreadful football! How did the late Sir Bobby react to criticism? Not abusing the fans but by working harder and producing great entertaining teams. Oh before the lovers react with Sir Bobby's 'zombie' jibe' it was not abuse but a provacative remark to get the fans to show some emotion to a great team! McCarthy has not earned the right to be compared to the great Sir Bobby!

McCarthy Denies Aiming Tirade at Fans
at 15:55:58

Emotion or not the arrogance of the man is contemptible! In truth he never really wanted to come here, he thought he as worthy of a bigger club, he still does! Wake up and smell the coffee McCarthy you are well beyond your sell by date, walk away and enjoy the fortune, you have been very fortunate to earn!

McCarthy Reveals Approach for Goldson With Loans or Bosmans Set to Replace Any Players Sold
at 18:33:41

why all the hype and exasperation over the Jan transfer window? the only players available are those of poor quality and are no better than we already have. You might get lucky and pick up a quality player at a bargain but only if the selling club are desperate for money and have no choice but to sell! We don't get that lucky and cannot compete in a bidding war!

Time Tells: Taking Stock Ten Years After the Marcus Evans Takeover
at 21:03:53

A brilliant blog, well thought out and obviously very well researched, I agree with every word! I think Bill McGarry should also be acknowledged with the other 3 'inexperienced' young managers (sorry for a slight criticism) I gave up my season ticket this season as I fell victim to the concession goalpost move and that together with the dross on the pitch for the past couple of seasons, I felt enough was enough. I have attended 5 games this season, all freebies I have to admit and the first three amongst the 'prawn sandwich' brigade! I sat in my old seat in the Cobbold stand Boxing Day and I have to say that from entering the ground at 2.50 to leaving at 4.55, there was not one single thing that would entice me back! How awful was the football? same old, same old! The stadium was tired, the catering third rate and expensive, I felt so sorry for the lone guy having to serve people, his employer having no thought or consideration either for him or their customers! to conclude a sorry state of affairs and so sad that such a once great club now finds itself third rate!!!

Rotherham Boss: Moore Not Involved at Fulham and Town Set to Sell
at 20:22:56

I would be interested to know what the highest amount Rotherham have paid for a player? I would be surprised if we get more than 200K? Still if we get that, not bad business as I really don't think he is as good as we have already got!
I don't understand why the expectations are so high for signing a player in January? No club is going to let a quality player go in this window unless they are desperate for money! it then becomes a bidding war and lets be honest, we cannot compete!

Hull City 2-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 18:46:19

I am probably not qualified to comment as I have given up my season ticket this season after many years! I did see the Sunderland game as I was invited into the 'prawn sandwich' section and I am convinced that when we're 4 1 up big Mick went for the draw! My comment today is that Skuse was part of an unchanged team. Obviously when he cleans Big Mick's car it shines far better than a host of East European car cleaner professionals! Thus he is an automatic choice and our results reflect accordingly! Oh what a cynical old git I am!!!

Town Make Bid for Bunn
at 20:27:51

The puns are great but the relegation battle starts Saturday! If we sign 'Hot Cross' how many games before tactical genius Mick turns him into a 'lost' defensive wing back? In the last 3 years I can only recall 1 pull back from the goal line and a goal resulting. Hews scoring against Newcastle last season! We sign wingers every pre season and they all disappear into the wilderness! I hate being so negative but I threw the rose coloured spectacles away when Keane was appointed!

McCarthy: Striker Signing Likely to Be Loanee
at 00:09:07

I am no fan of McCarthy but for once I sympathise with him! Middlesbrough have just paid 6.5m for a 21 year old striker who has scored just 8 goals in over 40 appearances in the 2nd tier of football! Has the world gone mad? He actually might not even make the grade!!! I was beginning to regret giving up my season ticket at Portman Rd but a reality check at Felixstowe & Walton will restore some sanity!

Milton Leaves Town
at 16:21:19

A great servant and ambassador to the club for over 30 years. Unfortunately in my opinion his role has become impossible and I would imagine for him totally frustrating? How can he market and sell sponsorship for the academy when the manager has no interest in it? A business enters into sponsership to get something back, what does ITFC academy offer anything to businesses or even players under the current regime? Good luck Simon in your new career!

Milne: Massive Rebuilding Over the Summer

Milne: Massive Rebuilding Over the Summer

'The basis of the squad is good'. What planet is he on? 45 games do not lie! 1 good result against Newcastle? Please get real! Evans has no feeling for the club or no understanding of the true meaning of football culture. McCarthty is arrogant in the extreme and well past his sell by date. Sorry while the current regime is in place then it downhill all the way!!! Oh the new strip will make all the difference!!!!

Newcastle Match All-Ticket
at 22:06:16

To those who are still in the big Mick camp and somehow are comparing him to Sir Bobby particularly with monies available to spend, let's look at the facts:-
Allan Hunter was signed from Blackburn with Bobby Bell going in exchange, yes + cash but not a fortune.
Paul Mariner was signed from Plymouth with John Peddalty & Terry Austin going in the opposite direction + cash. Again not a fortune.
Brian Talbot was sold to Arsenal and with the money the two Dutchman were bought with money to spare!
Of the 12 players who won the cup in 1978, 9 were home grown. 7 of the 11 who won the EUFA cup in 1981 were also home grown! Please don't let anyone even think of comparing the utter dross served up today to those wonderful glory days!

Ipswich Town 1-1 Birmingham City - Match Report
at 22:25:17

I have just read Big Micks comments on the Star website and I agree that the abuse of Douglas is disgusting! I do not and will not abuse Douglas, he is an honest pro who gives 100%. Unfortunately and it is no slight on him, but he is not good enough to turn us into a good side other than a less than average one! Apart from effort which is admirable he gives us nothing in a positive or game changing sense. The fact that he was picked today and that decision was nothing to do with him, there must be some sympathy foer him, how would anybody relish being abused by 10,000 people? I put the blame squarely on big Mick's, I believe thatbhebis arragant and stubborn enough to just stick two fingers up to the people who contribute to his I real terms his substantial wage packet!

Ipswich Town 1-1 Birmingham City - Match Report
at 21:12:14

This my 55th season of watching my beloved 'Towan' I have even been fortunate enough to have had a book published about my support and experience! Today I feel so sad! The game was awful and we were lucky to get a point. However I really didn't expect any thing else. What saddens me and hurts me was the venom and abuse directed at the owner, his mouthpiece and the manager. What a horrible and unbelievable state of affairs at such an honourable and well respected club? What really saddens me is that I cannot really blame the perpetrators of these vile chants! I am torn, I feel like I have suffered a bereavement? I am sure the Cobbold brothers, Mr Ramsey, Mr Robson! My grandfather and my father are wrestling in their graves!
