Richardson: It's Phenomenal, We're Delighted Ed is Supporting the Club in This Way
at 15:15:49

Chepstowblue - it’s the singer not the song!

For the life of me, and try as hard as some folk might - I can’t see anything but hugely positive in this news! Well done to all parties in achieving what must be a unique shirt sponsorship deal. Can’t think of any other team, anywhere, to be sponsored by a global superstar, or band. Get in!

Town Confirm Rolls Appointment as Director of Performance

This cannot be seen as anything but positive news in terms of transforming us into a ‘proper’ football club. Of course, we could appoint Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the wee donkey, and some folk would still whinge!

Cook: If You Want to Be Here, We Need to See More
at 16:15:10

Sound management and training can only go so far in improving individuals’ performances; the base metal remains. Applies, equally, to both technical and mental strengths. However, doing so must be PC’s immediate challenge for the remaining games. Far greater, more complex, challenges await - something he readily acknowledges.

The elephant in the room, however, is Mat Gill’s position. His recent post-match comments were taken from the PL manual of seeing spun gold from dead lead - defending abject mediocrity. But, more seriously, as a key member of PL’s team he must bear a large slice of responsibility for not recognising, and actively correcting, those fundamental major shortcomings regarding fitness, attitudes and work ethic found so lacking by PC.

Doing our best to snatch defeat/draw from what should be a certain victory. Hard to believe we are so poor against a struggling club.

More unpleasant food for thought for PC to digest.

Cook: We Need to Be So Much Better Than That
at 21:21:05

There’s clearly a deep-seated, negative, mentality running through the first team. Before getting anywhere what PC wants in footballing terms, his immediate challenge is to purge individuals’ inflated opinions of their abilities, change attitudes from too easily accepting the mediocre as ‘normal for us’ and making crystal clear the minimum standards required to wear the shirt. It’s a challenge not to be under estimated; but until this toxic boil is lanced, we will remain stuck in what seems like a hamster on it’s wheel situation. One thing for sure is that PC is going to earn his corn here - something he’s probably rapidly beginning to realise!

Portsmouth 2-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 20:29:45

The more PC sees of individual players, and their ability to play effectively as a team, the more the enormity of the challenges he faces will become apparent. They are many and they are complex - there’s no instant fix option available to him. Trying to rectify years of steady on field decline represents a challenge he may well have underestimated.

I believe he possesses the vision and ability to meet those challenges; hopefully, supporters will be patient and give him time. However, my greatest concern is that - no matter how hard he works - his efforts will be constrained by chronic lack of support by ME. History points the way in that respect. To have any realistic chance of avoiding at best marking time, at worst sliding further into decline, PC must hope the club is taken over ASAP. Perhaps it was this prospect that influenced his decision to accept the job. In which case he might be feeling short-changed. But that’s ME for you,

Pretty sure PC would not have believed any team he selected would be capable of producing such a tepid, inept, gutless performance. He can’t have experienced anything worse during his management career.

One thing, however, I’m clear on: he will never allow it to be repeated. A whole bunch of those wearing the shirts last night, inevitably won’t be doing so next season.

Abysmal rubbish! Defies belief that we are capable of producing such an inept, passionless, performance. Makes a complete nonsense of players believing they’re capable of a top two finish!

Hopefully PC will get amongst them big time!

Cook: Gillingham Were the Better Side
at 10:24:24

Suspect PC will be most disappointed with individuals’ and collective team performance. We’re not good against physical and direct teams, so it was always going to be a war of attrition - which we clearly lost. But, PC would have expected us to be mentally stronger and willing to compete better all over the park. We effectively beat ourselves.

Possibly the events of the past week or so, and the relentless demands of this league, caught up with us - although PC didn’t agree. But he’s only recently come into the building, and there’s been a lot of on and off field angst going on for a long time. At some point it was bound to catch up with us. However, it’s done: I trust PC to steadily get in amongst the squad and get the best out of what he’s inherited. He’ll have seen the size of the task ahead, and need# to be ruthless where necessary.

‘Back to basics’ - eg playing in accordance with the players’ abilities/limitations. Rather than stubbornly adhering to a ‘passing out from the back’ philosophy, which has probably cost us dear. There’s clearly a huge, collective, weight been lifted from individuals’ shoulders. Such a pity that it has taken so long for the penny to drop. But - we must keep it going. COYB!

Banished Duo Angered By Manager's Comments
at 18:21:01

What’s playing out here is one symptom of a deep-rooted, possibly terminally toxic, malaise that’s steadily dragging the Club further into the abyss. As Mick Mills said, it’s just plain sad.

Worse, perhaps, is the fact that we have an owner whose abject failure to provide strong and visible leadership, is the least competent person to do so - when decisive leadership is so badly needed to break us out of what is a giant cluster-fcuk. We’re on basic life support, with the spectre of a dark hand hovering over the oxygen supply - eg the supporters.

at 20:32:33

Oh dear, against an even half decent side - which P’boro are - we’re dismal. Started well, then lost focus and confidence. Conceding too many free kicks, finding it hard to get any meaningful possession, even harder to do anything when we do.

Thing is, we probably do have the players with the ability and quality to do so much better. Lambert just cannot unlock that potential. Time for a change - no brainer, really.
