Hurst: We May Have to Be Patient on Signings
at 17:02:39

As I've said Bluehook, all along, Hurst is Mick V2.0.

This isn't a bad thing but his appointment isn't a huge departure from what we had.

Paul Hurst’s Time at Shrewsbury – A History in Seven Matches
at 16:40:34

As I suspected - it's MM V2.0

This is not a bad thing as such - as clearly Hurst will be working under exactly the same financial constraints as Mick.

Hopefully, we see some proper width under Hurst and maybe putting a team out to win as opposed to not concede. That being said, it's clear Hurst is pragmatic and happy to win by the odd goal.

Fingers crossed for the future.

Milne: We've Got the Top Manager in His Age Group
at 12:16:44

@midastouch

That's the point, Mick had 'limited' funds - this won't change, in short, the financial landscape remains the same as when Mick was in charge. You won't see us shelling out millions. A few hundred K here and there for the likes of Waghorn or Huws, that will be it.

No, the Club and Marcus made that patently clear a long time ago. Any new incumbent would be working under the same financial constraints as Mick was.

We Need to Talk About Kevin
at 17:07:53

Ah Kevin Bru - there is indeed talent there - he can thread a pass and is certainly a more forward thinking player but, the problem is very simple.

He drifts in and out of games far too easily.

He is too lightweight for this division.

He has yet to impress over a 90 min spell.

Therefore, as decent as he is, he's no more than a squad player/ impact sub.

McCarthy: More Pressure on Me After Cup Changes
at 19:11:51

@fatcatevans - I'm not forgetting the history at all - as I stated, I didn't know how long a fan penguin has been, therefore I went back to the early eighties, a mere 30 odd years ago.

I cannot comment on the football back in the sixties as I didn't witness that, or the 50's but I most certainly watched the 70's onwards - and throughout the majority of the 70's were were a direct team.

So, we have a period in the 50's and 60's where we played some good football, the 70's less so, early to mid 80's we did - but from there on in - it's been mixed to say the least.

The notion of us being a 'footballing' Club is a misnomer as I have stated.

McCarthy: More Pressure on Me After Cup Changes
at 09:13:47

@penguinblue

You stated: Disrespects the Club's proud tradition (now gone) of good football, the fans and the FA Cup (some dubious comments about non-favourite players as well)

I have no idea how long you have been a Town fan but, just for the record, the notion of Ipswich being a 'footballing' club is really based around a period of football from the early Eighties (and also under Burley)

Sir Bob's early teams were direct at times, very direct. It wasn't until the arrival of messrs. Muhren and Thijssen and their bemoaning of watching the ball in the air did Sir Bob make use of their talent. Under Duncan's reign the quality of football on offer was, at times, turgid to say the least. More recently we've watched both Jewell and Keane teams play some awful 'football' in the sense you are talking about.

So, this proud tradition of being a football club is actually a misnomer - we've had managers and teams over the years that would have given Wimbledon a run for their money in the long football stakes.

What I see, currently under Mick, is a team that first and foremost is hard to beat and makes use of direct football (and when not playing well long ball stuff) but that can and has played some very good football, certainly more football in the sense you are talking than I saw under Keane and Duncan for example.

Even the lovely Joe Royle used direct football tactics to allow Bent and Shefki to get in behind defenses at times.

McCarthy: Pompey Players Will Expect to Beat Us
at 09:00:56

Delighted to see MM staying with fringe first teamers and also the younger lads.

Given the dirth in quality of U21 football, these players need proper game time with something actually at stake.

Given how leggy the likes of Murphy, Skuse and Chambers have been of late, sensible management to make changes.

If Mick didn't make some changes for the Cup games, consider this. Berra or Smith pick up an injury, our Polish Pete might well have had to make a first team league appearance without any meaningful first team football - not sure I really want to think about that. Or how about Fraser having a recurrence of his injury....Tommy Oar then starts with only an hours worth of sub football under his belt?

Sometimes, there is a bigger picture.

Why would it not be fair to play Digby - what a very odd comment.

The lad needs game time, proper game time, if he isn't going to play him Tuesday then when is he? U21 isn't good enough for him to develop.....
