Corporation Tax in Europe
at 12:42 7 Dec 2019

Using the headline figure is pretty meaningless if you don’t know the scope! According to the fact check programme on R4 during the week the scope in most EU countries is much less than I’m UK.

You might have a point for science maybe, though Wales still came bottom in all three subjects. Improvements in Maths and Reading though were pretty much similar sized for England and Wales, with England’s marks being best in all three areas.

Didn’t get so upset Herb. It was intended as a bit of humorous sarcasm. I’m a remainer and Pro-EU.

“And I don't see why we should do something just because others are doing it”

That sounds rather like a reason not to be in the EU!

I believe our system is broadly the same as the rest of the EU. Most EU citizens working in other EU countries can vote in local and European elections but not General Elections.

Well they at least kept the Cons out of power for over a decade. Something the current Labour Party look unlikely to do despite offering more gifts than Santa Claus!

Not been bad my end. Generally very good quality with no stuttering but the very occasional short low bit rate section (visible compression artefacts). Mind you I’m watching on iPad not TV sized screen.

Inequality in the UK

I suppose the obvious question is how much tax do these people pay in the UK? The article doesn’t mention that.

Skype for Business is great. Use it daily for international collaboration. Not looking forward to it’s replacement by Teams in the near future which I find far less intuitive.

Ball boys/girls
at 15:57 3 Dec 2019

I must admit to sometimes finding their lack of involvement annoying. It’s obviously not all of them but there have been some just not interested. I think it was one of the last two games when either Holy or Norris had to walk past the sitting ball boy/girl to get the ball from close to the corner flag at the Churchmans’ end. If it was me at that sort of age I’d have be been straining at the leash to get my hands on the ball.

If he’d come back with that as an example then fine. He didn’t, he what he often does and took the argumentative approach. All I wanted was clarification as to what majority he was referring to as there wasn’t an obvious one in the context of rail users vs other forms of transport.

Well I was asking what majority are you talking about? Rail travel accounts for about 9% of journeys but I suspect you’ve discovered that and would rather deflect!

There was also an interesting fact checking programme on at 9 this morning on Radio 4 (More or Less). Completely demolished Cons 40 new Hospitals claim but surprisingly came down in favour of the 50000 additional nurses claim. Also said that while Labour’s proposed Corporation Tax hike would only raise us to an average rate for Europe, the actual government tax take would be top of the European league table, due to the much wider scope used for Corporation tax in the UK compared to other countries.

I know that. My reply was to JonBlue’s post that was specifically talking about rural areas. Context is everything!
