After a long night of football it would be a good idea to blast the ball. The tension in the ground and taking a penalty in front of their supporters, a good idea would be to just use brute force and on target.
The difference being we are not closing down and challenging the opposition quick enough. We have to break up opponents play sooner. Too many balls into our area seem to result in a simple goal. We find players caught out of position and opposing attackers find space in and around the box.
Awful defending again today which was easily highlighted on Match of the Day. Standing off the opposition strikers. What's the point of crowding around the 6 yard area when opposing players are free on the 12 yard area.?
A very good footballer. Keep him in at left back . Has played well in every game . McKenna has to slot Leif on the left midfield and hopefully his work rate will give us better attacking options.
No real driving impact from midfield. We are just too slow going forward and when there is a burst going forward there are not enough options.
How we switch off in defence cost us the game again. I advocate putting Davis in left midfield without the left back responsibilities. Conner Townsend is a good player and should be our left back. The service to the strikers has to be better and more variety in going forward. Stick to a 4-4-2. We need a flair player who can influence the central midfield and support our attack. Sideways and backwards gives the other team time to defend in numbers.
This has to be our chance to get 3 points. If we sink into " defend mode" we won't have many more chances to get 3 points. With the new players we have to attack and dominate the game . Get the right formation sorted and it should be a breeze. LoL.
And that's why we end up defending. The 5-4-1 or similar is not working. The 4-4-2 would encourage getting the ball forward quicker and more often. With Delap and Phologene up front, it would cause a lot more problems. Give teams something to worry about. With Davis and Hutchinson on the flanks means even more pace supporting the attack. A regular back 4 would then mean some stability. Defenders in place to defend.⁷
Which brings me back to the point i have made in previous posts.....play Leif Davis at left midfield and get Conner Townsend in at left back. .
The loyalty being shown to certain players is costing us points. I echo what someone else posted that Al Hamadi should have started the game up front today and Jack Taylor centre midfield.
Davis on left midfield and Hutchinson on right flank in a 4-5-1 first half .
No more playing out from the back against an opposing teams high press.
If we recruit some proven quality we just might survive this first season back in the Premiership.
With players like Al Hamadi at the club we are in a good place. He will score goals if given good service, like every striker. We don't need him to go out on loan.
