Thanks for sharing these, I always enjoy doing your quizzes. Point of order though (!) and perhaps it’s down to my age but I do not agree with the answer to CPFC biggest rivals. |
| Forum Reply | Who is, or was, the best footballer on here.......? at 20:41 11 Apr 2024
There’s some very impressive football CV’s on here. I played for Harwich and Parkestone from under 9 through to under 13 level, and was considered quite good. However, by the end of my time there turns and tricks needed to be backed up with strength and bravery and I was found out. Badly. Absolute coward who avoided competing in the air if at all possible. Made a ‘comeback’ at 28 when my works team was short, and broke my leg. At that time I was the father of a 3 week old daughter and being practically immobile for the best part of two months didn’t exactly endear me to my wife. Oh, and I missed the play off final which was 2 days after my leg break. Couldn’t even have a beer at home as I was pumped with painkillers. FFS. |
| Forum Reply | Nerves just kicked in for Sat at 18:38 3 Apr 2024
My nerves are on edge too. My coping mechanism is that regardless of the score on Saturday, we will still be the only one of the two teams to win the League, FA and UEFA Cups. And have produced England’s best two managers. At best, Norwich have a 10% chance of winning the FA cup at some point, it is almost inconceivable that they’ll even win the league or triumph in Europe. |
| Forum Reply | Make Rochdale Great Again! at 14:33 5 Mar 2024
Genuine question : Is it troubling that the majority of voters in Rochdale elected an MP largely on the basis of his anti Israel sentiment or is putting the plight of Palestinians ahead of more local concerns evidence of recognition that on the whole we are still a good place to live and that a concern for the much less fortunate is of more importance? |

Yes, that’s a good point. Fingers crossed we have Sam 2.0 on the books already! |

Given who the respondents were, I am genuinely surprised at how ‘low’ the numbers are. Of more concern is whether these views are shared by floating voters : if they are, and this type of prejudice can be a vote winner, talk of a Labour landslide might be premature. |

I think he will be another Liam Trotter : not going to make many first team starts with us but probably have a good career as a top league 1 or middling Championship midfielder. |

This would probably be my top 3 too, but in the spirit of wanting to add a new candidate into the mix, how about Marlon Harewood and that miss v Oxford. |

All of the above, plus, in no particular order : Getting players autographs Tannoy announcements that someones wife/girlfriend had gone into labour Various chants/songs Green un Hearing other scores/results via someone’s radio Barrier 171 in Churchmans, where it all started for me |
| Forum Reply | Child mental health crisis. at 17:00 7 Feb 2024
In my experience, adult services are even more difficult to access : & that’s assuming the person is actually willing to get help. Despite science and health care breakthroughs, technology and convenience, we seem to be in an awful state mentally compared to prior generations that had so little. Perhaps capitalism and material gain isn’t all it’s cracked up to be….. |
| Forum Reply | Forty years ago today: Ipswich Town 3–1 Coventry City at 15:41 4 Feb 2024
40 years, wow. I was there, West Stand Lower (terrace) right up by the North. In that era, that part of the West had quite a few what I think would be called bouncy lads these days. I was 13 and a wannabe casual. Suffice to say I would have sh*t myself if faced with the prospect of actual aggro. |
| Forum Reply | Last time I went to Stoke-on-Trent to watch Ipswich play on NYD at 20:34 31 Dec 2023
Closest I got to Stoke away was, I think, 1986/87 : at Crewe Station me and my mate found out the game was postponed, so we hopped on a train to Liverpool to watch them play Luton. Unimaginable these days that back then you could select a fixture from the back of the paper & simply pay on the turnstile to get in. Unfortunate incident after the match, as we got chased half the way back to Lime St station by some local scallies, never did buy into the friendliest supporters reputation that they often get credited with. In the words of Alf Garnett, Scouse Gits. |

So sorry to read this. Although we’ve never met, you have felt like a friend over the years, as your reports have lifted my spirits during some very dark times. Losing a parent is awful : but the pain will ease and be replaced by a plethora of happy memories. Hang in there. |
| Forum Reply | Worst airline you’ve ever flown at 10:21 23 Dec 2023
With each Airport being dominated by a single carrier, there’s little in the way of genuine competition, thus the standard is generally poor. My nearest airport is Stansted but given the near monopoly of Ryan Air, I tend not to use it unless I absolutely have to. Usually pay extra to fly from City or Southend as they are marginally more tolerable. I can still vaguely remember being excited at the prospect of flying, no the whole experience fills me with dread. Back to the original question - Ryan Air. Although this is much like answering what is your favourite type of sh*t filled sandwich. |

It is an excellent book, I first heard of it via Liam Gallagher in an interview donkeys years ago. It can’t be often that you’re inspired to read a book on his recommendation! |
| Forum Reply | One month to go everyone..... at 19:45 16 Nov 2023
As Keegan once said, I’d love it if we beat them, but even if we don’t, being on top in recent derby history is no match for our accomplishments. I’d say Norwich have less than a 1% chance of ever winning the league, similar chance of lifting a European trophy and maybe a 5% chance of the FA cup. They will never catch us. |
