At this nadir of the clubs history when decisive action needs to be taken....what do we learn from Lee O'Neil......that ME is not going to be around the club as much. Phew .....what a relief. For a moment there I thought we were ruddleless being steered by an absolute twonk.
It'll be this. Sheeran has donated extra money after his gigs to the Beat statue. It'll now be fully animatronic. Beattie will be holding a pint of lager and when you touch his arm he shouts "Get out of my pub". (Tribute to his time as landlord at Henley Cross Keys).
So we are down. Yes today was depressing. We are now a League One team next season. Will the manager we have get us straight back. He may have a shot. However..... The real cancer we have at the club is ME. Did anyone else feel queasy reading his interview this week. He is in complete denial. He will continue on just as before. He has made poor decisions after another. He feels the decline of the club has no real link to his abject leadership. He is now taking a more active role supposedly after years of delegating to Billy no marks like Clegg and Milne. How to run a club the size of ours? Just look 45 miles up the A140.
I'm trying not to get too angry. But how could one man so out depth real so much damage in so little time. This is the weakest squad we have had since the 1950s. Just because of the hubris and inadequacy of one little pr#ck and one knuckle dragging thug. Or and one owner who presided over the whole affair.
Jan 2000 - town in good position to get promoted either automatically or via play-off. Burley goes to board and asks for cash to buy Marcus Stewart. Board agrees. Ipswich buy him for 2.25 million (7-10 today).
If PH does well and is a vaguely similar position in 2 years time - any remote chance of the same happening again?
(1) Think our strike force will be potent enough to keep us out danger this season? (2)Think ME will invest properly in strikers that will score enough to keep us out danger this season.
If not I'm afraid this could be the season that does see us get out of the Championship.
Only 2 recognised CBs in the squad and our 2 main goal scorers from last season sold. Relying on lower league talent to get those goals. With the 4 million or so left ME needs to get in quality loans - even though neither PH or ourselves wanted to go down that route.
