Leaving a baby for hours in a car on the hottest day of the year is a 'tragedy'
at 16:54 26 May 2017

I disagree. Unreservedly.

His wife did the crèche runs. He stopped off at work to deal with something urgent. Got engrossed and the tragic mistake was made. Ireland isn't always as warm as it was when this tragedy happened.

He was the baby's father and I am very saddened to even think about the level of guilt and devestation he will suffer for the rest of his life.

I do not judge as you do.

I hope none of you who have judged go through, or know anyone who has to carry such grief as this young man will. I don't know him. But my humanity means more to me than vain self indulgent judgment.

The condemnation of this father has been so off putting for me that I'm packing this website in. Not as a protest or anything. I just have found the above comments to be very, very off putting and I have nothing in coming with such condemnation or those who indulge in it. This was a tragedy.

If only everyone was as perfect as those who condemn.

As a father, I have no doubt the father in this case is absolutely devastated.

Tony Mowbray would be my guess, if Mick isn't here next season. GB with an assistant of McGreal would be my choice.

Interesting question Hype.

I was over for the QPR and was talking over lunch with my mate and his Mrs before the game. He mentioned Curbs. I mentioned GB. Curbs has a good record.

According to some the views of my mate are somehow misguided because it's a throwback to times past. It's a logic I don't really agree with. Mick is 58, 2 years shy of GB. There are other senior managers enjoying plenty of relative success.

I must admit I had lost faith in Mick but after reading the post Reading comments, some optimism is restored. Of course he may still decide to walk, even if he enjoys more support than in recent times.

Whatever the case, I think ME will place more value on experience than some of the posters on here.

I'm not looking at an Irish connection. I'm simply making the point that we have a manager now who was also in management in the mid 90s.

I really don't understand how it is a backward step to re-appoint our most successful manager in recent history. The way we played, the playoffs, 5th in the prem? The fiasco of the following year was gut wrenching, I'll admit.

I remain quite adamant he's the man we need now. Respectfully of course.

About the same time Mick took the Irish job.

I really don't think GB should be excluded because he managed us before.

Connection.

It's not good!

Their third, which I saw on sky, highlights the mess and lack of leadership we are plagued with.

Mick should resign. For his own self as much as anything else. But I don't think he will.

I'm no genius. I see only one option now. Get Burley in. Get him in now. We got a 9-0 kicking in old Trafford before relegation and his rebuilding began. I genuinely think he's the only one who can transform this mess.

Harryfrombath.

Kevin O'Callaghan.

I'd mention myself as well but I'm far too sensible and modest.

IF MMc goes after last night, who do we get in?

Burley.

Affinity with the club etc. We need a manager who gives a damn about the club, supporters etc. Proven track record. Plays a good brand of football. I think he would have learned a lot from the collapse after finishing 5th in the Prem.

McGreal as his number 2. Or Taricco.

I think you are right though that Mick won't walk. He'll hang in there, as he's entitled to, but I can certainly understand fans frustrations with that.

It's a "no" for me.

I'd add Leon Best as well. Very poor indeed.

Terry Butcher used the word "disgraceful". He's right.

Mick's position is untenable.

It's GB for me. GB genuinely gives a damn about the club. That is now, imho, the most essential ingredient.

Wasn't it during that season that his assistant, Dale Roberts was diagnosed before so sadly losing his battle in 2003?

That said, there is no doubt the wheels came off and bad mistakes were made. But do you damn him for that, ignore the ITV deal collapse, and the investment in the stadium as jeera mentioned. What about the trip to 5th? Bolton in the play offs? The way we played?

We're closer to nadir than zenith at present. We have some good young prospects and a yearning for watching our team play the right way.

I think GB would have learned from the past mistakes.

Maybe as assistant to GB?

Offers a legacy possibility as well.

I'd actually like McGreal as assistant to GB. People seem to forget Dale Roberts when assessing GB.

I appreciate the concerns of those against, but given where we are, GB is the obvious candidate for me.
