Manager speak
at 17:51 26 Nov 2021

To be fair to Paul Lambert he was managing under difficult circumstances. When you are trying to do a job with no support from the people above you, it is impossible.

I like a lot of what lambert was saying I thought he was pretty honest too.

Lamberts failing was playing out from the back, he did not have the players to carry that off

But he was right about the club being run down and forced evans hand so we have much to be thankful for.

He was also right about getting fans and players joined up and doing things together is also crucial.

Celina instead of Chaplin in the No 10 role?
at 13:39 26 Nov 2021

Celina for me, is best used as an impact sub. Someone to bring on to shake things up in the 2nd half.

I think we can all see now that we need two attacking full backs in place. The issue Cook has is that he either goes for 2 defensive full backs and our defence is less leaky, or he goes for 2 attacking full backs and we try and score more goals than they do.

I think he has to go for the latter, it is far more entertaining anyway, and far more in keeping with his style of play.

Seems everyone is also in agreement, that number 10 you either use Fraser or Connor in there. Burns on the right, Richards on the left.

Aluko can probably do either side, but you could argue he could fall into the Celina bucket of being an impact sub.

The team pretty much picks itself now I think. He just needs to stick to his guns now, and in January upgrade any positions he needs to.

Tuesday was particularly painful. But hopefully the players and manager will be aware of this Acute reaction and buck their ideas up.

Or are things still a bit testy?

Everything will look a lot brighter about 9:30pm on 7th December.

Another manager sacked
at 14:03 25 Nov 2021

Good to see a club being so proactive. We should sack ours too, it has been 9 months in 2 days time, (well six months of real season time, but whatever), and he has achieved nothing, NOTHING!. Lets get rid, we could get that fella from MK Dons, he's got 7 more points than us, that's an upgrade right there.

WE NEED PROMOTION NOW!

Ok, come on then…

I am not sure about the end of NEXT season. But I think we need to support him THIS season, and see where we are at the end.

No doubt the last 3 league games + those dreadful 3 cup matches have not inspired any confidence that we are actually heading in the right direction.

But, I do think he needs another transfer window, and we should expect to see Top 6 by the end of the season.

For me, that is reasonable. Anyone calling for his head before then, has not given him a fair crack of the whip.

It IS the same at every club for sure. But it IS ridiculous, no other industry would you expect someone to come in to a completely failing organisation, on its knees, with years of underinvestment, and expect it to be world beating in the 1st year. (just trying to provide some balance)

That might actually work......

Job Description: Ipswich Town Manager
Reports into: CEO
Minimum Duration: 90 mins (plus injury time)

Job Description:

You are required to take charge of a team of players and implement an attractive playing style, whilst remaining top of a League of 24 teams, all trying to do the same thing (and been trying a lot longer than you).

You will need to be the most tactically astute in the League, a greatest motivator, and have the greatest man management skills.

Whilst the minimum duration of the contract is only 90 mins, it is highly likely, if you perform to the required standard, the position could be extended to 12 months, but we must stress there is an expectation that you will hit the required level.

Fan management will be a big part of the job, as they will be at the work place a fair amount of time, and will be looking to throw insults, boo you, and call for your head at the first sign of trouble. This is what many think their role is, as the job description has been somewhat confused over the past 2 decades.

You will also be required to do coach management, player management, stakeholder management.

Pay: Above the national average
Life Insurance: We offer a comprehensive life insurance policy as you will likely not be able to acquire one yourself on the open market

This might be a bit out there as an idea, but seeming as we want to get rid of all of our managers after 3-6 months (more than enough time to get us into the Prem), should we look for a 'lighter weight' engagement model, something where there is only one months notice in the contract?

We might have still lost, but it would have been a very different game of football as the crowd would have picked up and got behind the team.

As it was it might have been a home game for Rotherham as there was nothing for the fans to get excited about.

I realise both kvy and Penney have shown defensive fragility this season but you can fix that, and if you can’t we need to get reinforcements who can play like that.

To be fair to JD, he is perfectly capable at getting forward, perhaps not as good as kvy at it, but last night there was no threat down either flank. We need two down each side overlapping, that is the system.

Whilst Rotherham may have sussed our game plan of doing this (it’s no real secret that is what we will be doing), as Mills said on the radio we need Bonne and the front players moving around a lot more which Chaplin and Bonne got going. Then it does not matter if we have one plan, if we execute it well the opposition won’t be able to cope with it anyway

For me, cooks style is to have full backs bombing forward and these two are the best we have fit at doing that

When Penney came on we looked a threat down the left hand side, that is what Penney gives us

That is why the goals have dried up imo

quite possibly, but I would take that outcome. Mainly as it would mean we can compete against the top teams. Working out how to deal with lower teams should be an easier nut to crack.

Paul Cook, Players, Coaching Staff - "How Soon Is Now?"
at 14:30 23 Nov 2021

I expect Paul Cook would say our inconsistency is due to the fact that he has not 'yet' got a team of 11 players he can rely on to perform their jobs properly, week in, week out. He will achieve that consistency, partially through work on the training pitch, and partially through replacing individuals who fail to reach the desired level.

Whilst a lot of what you say is true, I think the reality is, we are not likely to do either walk the next few games, or get smashed the next few games. The most likely outcome is we will fall somewhere in-between the two which is where we currently are as a team.

Given that, I would still argue the manager needs another window, it is fairly harsh to expect him to assemble a top two side in one transfer window, I guess this is your "Cook option needs to be exhausted more fully" scenario.

If of course we do get smashed and our out of it by Xmas, then I think you argue a strong point.

But that ain't gonna happen!
