| News Comment | Blackburn CEO: We Get That Szmodics Wants to Play at Top Level at 12:32:18
Interesting that It has been suggested that our latest offer for Szmodics would be acceptable but then Blackburn turned it down on the basis that it wasn’t enough. Reconcile that with the fact that they now suggest that because Szmodics is 29 next month the clock is ticking for him! Blackburn should recognise that his valuation is therefore dropping like a stone and it would surely make sense to cash in for what is on the table now. I have also read elsewhere that Szmodics has not been included in Blackburn’s pre-season games and has done little training in the past 3-4 weeks. We need players who can have an immediate impact so looking at the whole issue I agree with other comments that we should now move on. Jack Clarke and Jordan James also favoured by me. |
| News Comment | Goodman: I've Been Nothing But Complimentary About Ipswich at 07:50:05
The one thing you can be sure of is that although it is full of quotes Goodman did not write this article. He had obviously been altered to the fact that LW had been critical of him and from there he took advice as to how to respond and someone else wrote the words used in the article on his behalf. Although LW may have been slightly out of order to comment as he did to me the article is a cheap reply. I accept that although Goodman may have praised our performances at various times during the season it is a fact that he gave us little or no chance of achieving promotion to the Premier League instead favouring the so called bigger clubs. |
| News Comment | Season Tickets Sell Out at 14:06:30
According to a one contributor season ticket holders are selfish for taking advantage of the opportunity to renew annually. I first had a season ticket for 1966-67 and since then have supported the team through thick and thin (mainly thin for most of the past 20 years!) It has already been pointed out that it was not long ago that our crowds were less than half of what they are now and those who did attend will recall the matches when we hoped to take advantage of the meagre one or two scoring chances created. It was dour at times but the faithful supported the team regardless. Yes I firmly believe that my undivided support over the years entitles me to renew my season ticket and if that offends anyone so be it. Undemocratic if you like but no different to what happens across the whole of professional football. |
| News Comment | McKenna: We've Paid Them the Respect They Deserve at 20:10:54
Remember the FA cup match against Lincoln who at that time were a non league team in 2017.The game ended in a 2-2 draw and I recall that the Lincoln following occupied the whole of the Cobbold stand giving vociferous backing to their team throughout the match outdoing our own support. Tomorrow is another day and we are a much better team than we were in 2017. Our fans also have a big part to play and let’s hear it for the Super Blues. |
| News Comment | Blues Eyeing Former Boro Man Bola at 14:08:13
Personally I find this all more than a bit worrying. The suggestion is that we are looking for cover at left back for Leif Davis but is that the truth of the matter? There has been plenty of news claiming that West Ham have more than a passing interest in Leif and he would no doubt be agreeable to a move with an uplift in the £15000 a week wages that we apparently pay him to possibly something approaching £100000 a week that he might be offered at West Ham. The next week will decide where we are but to lose Leif would certainly have an adverse effect on our ambition to achieve Premier league status. |
| News Comment | Everton Yet to Make Decision On Simms at 15:02:56
Just a late thought but if we are in the market for Simms is it possible that Nathan Broadhead could have some influence in persuading him to sign. Broadhead must surelty know Simms from his Everton days and possibly they have played togrther? |
| News Comment | Fans Urged to Stay Off the Pitch at 15:38:11
Having read through the earlier comments I totally agree that that all our fans should comply with the club request to stay in the stands and not invade the pitch. I do not understand one comment which suggests that a pitch invasion makes it a ‘special occasion'. Another suggestion that there are ‘no safety concerns' couldn't be further from reality with past instances of players being mobbed, carried head high, pushed to the ground and attempts to remove clothing as a souvenir. Although we have had a number of barren years and on the assumption that we will at last achieve our goal surely we can all celebrate sufficiently without going on the pitch. All that said I accept that there will be an element, hopefully minor, who will prove to be nothing more than an embarrassment to the majority of fans and indeed our Club itself. |
| News Comment | McKenna: The Next Game's Another Big One at 16:36:21
Last Saturday's game against Charlton saw tremendous and continuous support from our fans for the whole of the match and a repeat of that tonight will surely see us over the line to gain 3 more points. It's a pleasure to watch the exciting football that we are playing and IMO the 4 January signings are the icing on the cake. Roll on kick off! |
| News Comment | McKenna: Pride is the Overriding Feeling at 19:29:15
For me a great game between two very good teams who will no doubt be contesting the top places during and at the end of the season. I am however concerned that the behaviour of some of our fans who saw fit to refuse to return the ball into play and also to openly goad the Portsmouth players will be included in the referee's report and from there may lead to a hefty club fine. Such behaviour cannot be condoned and should be openly criticised by the club with an unreserved apology to Portsmouth. |
| News Comment | Davis: We've Made a Bit of a Statement at 17:11:02
I would suggest that the words ‘statement' and ‘standard' are unlikely to have originated from the players. We all know how interviewers play with words and I suspect that the question to say Chaplin for example might have been ‘ Do you think that Saturday's performance has set a standard?' and he might have simply replied ‘yes'. It not an issue for me. Let's be positive and accept that we are at least showing confidence and optimism. Surely that's got to be good. |
| News Comment | Ipswich Town 3-0 MK Dons - Match Report at 08:05:13
The fitness levels are obviously high. I found it unbelievable that our boys played to such a high standard in that heat. Absolutely fantastic! Yes we did perhaps dally around and take chances at the back on a couple of occasions but as has already been stated the manager will no doubt address that. |
| News Comment | Town Confirm Davis Signing at 09:52:04
You never know what to believe about transfer fees. The Leeds MOT site suggests that we have only paid £900000 for Leif. |
| News Comment | West Ham and Arsenal Eyeing Chirewa at 17:50:23
Unless his age is a barrier I am not sure why If we are ‘keen to keep him at Portman Road longer term' we are not offering him an improved and extended contract now. The other points have already been made ie if he continues to improve and once he is out of contract the vultures will pounce. |
| News Comment | Woolfenden Latest to Extend Town Stay at 17:33:28
For me Woolfenden had a really good season and was a player that I feared would be the subject of a substantial bid from a more senior club perhaps making him unsettled. I think that a lot of credit must go to the manager who has obviously created a belief in what we are capable of achieving in this coming season. |
| News Comment | Morsy Linked With Wigan But No Contact With Town at 22:30:33
I would also be gutted to see our captain go but unless there is something already going on behind the scenes I agree that this should be dismissed as paper talk and pure speculation. Morsy has been our most dominant player since he joined us and an inspiration to those around him. A firm favourite with our fans because of very few mistakes and his reliability In the tackle and ball distribution. Let's hope that our activity in the transfer market is limited to positive signings and no loss of our most effective players. We are all hopeful that this coming season will end in promotion to the Championship but we won't achieve this if we become a club selling our best players. |
| News Comment | Town Topic: The Day We Won the UEFA Cup at 15:33:07
I have many memories of the final and events leading up to it. I travelled over to Holland with 3 friends the day before with the intention of spending the night sleeping in the car. As you can imagine this was far from ideal and I ended up on the back seat of a bus parked nearby. I was woken up to the engine starting up and fortunately managed to get off before the bus left the depot! As far as the match is concerned I recall that we were under a lot of pressure in the second half and that our fans gave the team tremendous vocal support particularly in the last 10 minutes or so to see us over the line. It was of some disappointment that the UEFA trophy was not carried by the team around the pitch and displayed to our support - I believe that a reason eas given later but I cant recall what that was. There was a crowd photo from the match on the cover of the 1981 Year Book and I was able to pick myself out amongst our fans. Yes, I dont think that it can be disputed that the 1981 team was our greatest ever |
