Ipswich Town v Hull City Your Report added at 09:52:37
Last night was the first match of the season I'd been to and I was very impressed - we look to have gone up a level from last season and every player played really well.

Early on our shape scared me - Davis seemed as high as Burns, Chaplin and Harness, it often looked like a 3-2-4-1 shape! However Davis impressed me most - his passing was incredible, just threading passes inside to Chaplin or Hirst between several of their players when it didn't look possible.

Woolfenden looks to have come on a level too, he always had ability but now looked up for the fight, he was dominating their forwards, from my angle it looked like he should have had a penalty when at a corner their defender pushed him over and injured himself landing on him.

Think Keogh's rating is too low, doesn't do the pretty stuff but how many headers from their corners, long throws and crosses did he win? It was like he had a magnet to get the ball to him every time.

I agree Jackson and Ball were disappointing and KVY MOM though

First half we played like a Sunday league team, second half we improved to a L2 team level!
I don't think any outfield players deserved more than a 1 for their first half performance....

They never troubled us, and every time we got the ball to the feet of our front 5 you felt we could score.
Unfortunately Donacien and Kenlock offered nothing going forwards so I can't see them getting back into our league starting XI. Huws showed his class first half, El Mizouni grew into the game and seemed to be running it at the end.

You can see Dobra loves runnning at players, but was also intelligent enough to play the first time through ball for Keane's goal

I thought our attacking players looked dangerous when we got the ball to their feet, however this only happened a few times all match, the rest of the time our only tactic seemed to rely on Sears and Pitman outjumping their huge defenders.....

I thought Chambers had a good game (for him) at full back - he even found tea mates with passes several times. I was disappointed with Webster's passing though - I hope he's not having that side of his game coached out of him!

Skuse protected the back 4 pretty well, but Bru and Bishop were anonymous first half, 2nd half Bishop got a bit more involved. Lawrence showed great skills several times, he didn't stay in the game for long periods, but had several quality moments.

I was most impressed with Best, his workrate, strength and close control was really an outlet to us, getting the ball into him we he was able to keep it untill the attacking midfielders caught up.

Terrible match for 90 minutes - however 8 minutes of injury time were brilliant!!

For me Knudsen was MoM, however Ward also played very well.
I can understand how the officials got the Douglas goal wrong - it looked in real time that he was offside, frustrating for us none the less though.

We were the team more likely to score, I would have liked Mick to bring on Dozzell for Douglas for the last 10-15 minutes. Douglas had played well, but at 34 and his second game in a week I think Dozzell's energy and creativity would have given us a better chance of winning - it's a gamble though taking off our most experienced player for our youngest and as others have said Mick was happy with a draw.....

Earlier in the season I was a Douglas supporter but I hadn't seen Douglas play in a while and know he's been getting abuse here, so was interested to see for myself how he did - he was awful!!! At times he looked like he was in a daydream - he had no idea what was going on! He was slow, error prone, often anonymous - the only thing he seemed to want to do is to drop between the centre backs, pick the ball up from one of them and then play it square to another defender!!

To even things up a little Skuse was every bit as good as Douglas was bad! Skuse made several crucial interceptions/tackles and he used the ball well. Smith and Berra were also good and Knudsen was solid. Chambers is a good defender but too many moves break down when he gets into advanced areas...

Now the attack - Feeney seems clueless! He seemed to get the ball, run towards the corner flag, if he went past his man he'd stop, do a step-over and then try to go past him again! At one point a cross came over from the left everyone was at the front post, nobody at all at the back post - Feeney was waiting on his right hand touchline, got the ball, waited patiently for a defender to come over then hit the cross into him!

Pitman looked a threat playing in attack, then was moved to right midfield when McGoldrick came on and he looked lost! Sears was trying to make things happen he had success several times cutting in onto his right foot from the left, but then he kept trying it and by then they knew what he was going to do. Varney's energy was good and he won just about every header against defenders much bigger than him, he just wasn't a goal threat.....

Forgot to put up my ratings, but I had Berra as MoM, Bart did great again but I thought Berra was excellent - really back to his best form from last season - he dealt with everything the tricky Oliviera had to offer whilst being elbowed, hit, pushed and kicked by Blackstock!

Knudsen did very well defensively, he'll never win over some people on here but was very solid and made some excellent tackles.

Pitman on the other hand was absolutely useless first half, I was quite surprised when he came out second half, but he was back to his normal level then anyway.

First half I thought Hyam and Foley offered good protection to the defence but didn't offer much when we had possession. Second half Foley grew in confidence and started offering himself and being more composed on the ball, he still didn't look like he knew what to do when he got forwards and in a shooting position, but he set up the winner, so I can't complain too much!!

I thought everyone played pretty well, Leeds seemed really poor - not as bad as the ref though!
After sleeping for the first 13 seconds, we dominated the match, Leeds got into the habit of just timewasting, and giving our players little kicks and pushes all game which the ref seemed oblivious to.
The 2-1 score flatters Leeds due to our dominance

Thought we defended well as a team, Murphy looked a threat going forward, he just didn't take his chances

I thought we looked a threat everytime we went forwards where-as thy were the opposite until the last few minutes when Gerken made a couple of great reaction saves.

It's good to see fans on here can still be fair with Gerken and given him a good rating, I know most of us don't really rate him but the clean sheet is down to him. I rated him an 8, it would have been higher except for 1 poor punch in the first half

Played poorly but won, at least Mick changed the system when it was clear 442 wasn't working, we went 352 before half time, and then 433 after.
Skuse was the best player for us (and Bru when he came on) Sears was always running, however it was the poorest I've seen Murphy all season - he didn't win any headers and didn't seem to know what else to do ...

Bru was superb today, always demanding the ball, winning lots of tackles and getting his goal.
Great to see Sears scoring too - good to see him offering a different threat to what our other strikers can do.
Bart made a couple of mistakes tonight, he cam in when Gerken made mistakes, harsh on him though as he had been very solid.
Also I was very impressed with Chaplow when he came on, he got around the pitch made lots of tackles and after a bad first pass, he kept the ball very well - if Skuse misses Sunday he would do a much better job than Tabb as the holding midfielder.

On another note we've had a lot of rubbish ref's recently, tonight's one didn't do too bad!

So so so SO much better than last few games!!!
Even when we were behind we were the better team and playing well, they only had the better for the first 10 mins of 2nd half, then MM took off Bishop (who was easily the best player on the pitch first half) for Bru who was equally superb!

Sears' running and pace was a threat to them and gave their defence something different to think about, this created space for other players, Sears should now keep his place ahead of McGoldrick, perhaps dropping McGoldrick for a few games could give him the kick he needs.

Disappointed in MM today, without Murphy we continued to play a direct 442 regularly hitting it long for the heads of our strikers.
When that failed we should have changed the system - gone to 352 or 433 - as long as we had 3 in the middle to try to control possession, as they were offering nothing going forwards. However that didn't happen we stuck to 442 and brought a center mid (Bishop) and a full back (Parr) on to play as wingers, not sure what that says to Ambrose and S. Hunt who weren't used!

Anderson was pretty non existent again and I think Bru passes the ball well, just doesn't demand it enough - he doesn't make himself available for the defenders to find enough, so they resort to the long ball.

I don't understand Mick's thinking today, Wigan obviously wanted a 0-0 and Mick seemed happy enough to protect that result too! I know we'd all have settled for where we are in the league, but now we're here, we don't want to throw it away and on recent form that looks to be happening!

On another note the ref again!!!! He just kept blowing his whistle for nothing - sometimes I had absolutely no idea why!!
