Strange, Surreal and Spectacularly Silly Signings
at 06:34:00

id like to echo that Sergei Baltacha is Ukrainian - he played for Dynamo Kiev - which happened to be in the soviet union at the time .. nothing to do with Russia (a different country in its own right)

loved Lee 'you only score in Ibiza' Chapman …

I agree with the Boncho comments - loved by the fans, but he wasn't very good!

Mark Fish, anyone? or Danny Higginbotham .. that well known Gibraltan International!

given the game is on at around 4am in australia - i hope that none of the ITFC players, playing in the derby downunder II (which kicks off at 2pm later in the day) will be watching the game .. we'll need to be fully on the mark to retain the bragging rights down this way! COYB ..

A Lack of Spending Will Curtail Progress
at 01:45:16

there are some bizarre comments here .. not least in the blog itself .. we seem to speak of more money for transfers as if it's some right .. so where is that money coming from? .. solely from the pocket of ME .. the club & its supporters don't raise enough .. year after year ME has made up the shortfall .. to the tune of what ? .. 50m, 60m pounds ? .. lets get real .. this is real money .. i dont buy the he's rich & can afford it .. nobody can afford to squander that much .. ME laid out his intentions .. he gave RK & PJ money which they wasted .. once bitten, twice shy .. he's into it up to his neck & has no exit strategy .. who would want to buy the club right now & take on the debt ? .. or is ME just going to walk away & lose it all? .. i cant see that happening
I reckon he cant afford to gamble another 10mil of the possibility of instant promotion & see it go the same way as the previous efforts .. his only chance to come out ahead is promotion through the frugal route even if it takes another 5 or 10 years .. so patience is the key here .. we all love to spend someone else's money .. but we need to remember it is their money not ours & we've no right to demand they spend it to placate our own impatience

McCarthy: Keeper Decision Not Difficult
at 11:51:39

So if Nouble is 'next in line' that would imply that he views each striker as being equal which is a worry - shouldn't you play the best strikers against a particular defence - not because they are next in line

The Ex-Files: Steve Palmer

i went to sixth form with him - can verify his cricket prowess - enormously disciplined to achieve all he has - the sort of guy you'd love to hate .. but just couldn't .. certainly not the 'best' footballer around but always gave 100% & did what he was told - yes it was Tanner that scored the goal at anfield in the league - was there for the fa cup game - didn't dozzel score that night?- somehow as molby stepped up you just knew it was all going to be over

Should Jewell Go Now? But What Then?
at 14:00:16

Thanks Johnny Boy - I don't think I said that clegg & ME picked the wrong guy - the decision might have been right at the time - it just hasn't worked out for the best - so the point is that ME needs to move on & not waste the next few games waiting for the trap door to open & for PJ to disappear - might as well do it now - the second point is that rather than bringing in one of the unemployed journeymen managers that do the rounds ME needs to think out of the box because the manager pool is pretty limited - maybe someone like tarrico might fit the bill - assistant managers do a bit more than carry the spare balls & as for coming to Town - why not? - a chance at the top job? Isn't that why we all go to work? - it's all about ambition - after all history has judged that jim didn't do so bad for a first go at management

Jewell Has Specific Central Defensive Targets in Mind
at 00:30:12

deja vu - same old Town, going around in circles - i truely dispair of course getting rid of PJ wont help, but he's making no progress with no money & a club that nobody will sign for ... more years of mid table mediocrity to come folks

Jewell Has Specific Central Defensive Targets in Mind
at 00:39:35

interesting discussion .. & it's clear that there will be a reality check with respect to players wages outside the premiership over the coming years - of course, leaving aside the temptation to circumvent 'reported' salaries by back hand dealings - chairmen buying players cars, sponsorship & the like, running 2 sets of books etc etc - in the same way they breach the salary cap in other football codes in australia!

anyway i digress ..

Whether Cresswells move (if he goes) represents a 'good bit of business' all depends on what the money is used for ... we got 8mil for wickham & i haven't noticed any great leaps forward .. we've signed so many duds over the last few years, right now i'd rather have a decent player than the cash - our transfer record has been poor, it seems for every gem we've unearthed there have been a fair amount of rocks (in fairness, i bet supporters of every club probably have similar feelings about the signings their clubs have made - but maybe not all clubs have gone out & signed 12 or 13 new players each season for the last few years like Town have)

in recent seasons we've quite readily dropped a half mil on salaries for players that have hardly seen first team action - using transfer profits to fund this sort of activity is akin to selling the car to go out boozing!

the gist of superfranz's blog is that without the 'luxury' of the owner being able to pump money into the club or borrow, Town will need to become a selling club once again in order to balance the books. Hopefully this sees a return to the hit or miss world of developing youths (where price is determined by potential) rather than the more expensive hit & miss of signing 'established' players (where price is determined by reputation & agents)

not sure why everyone is slagging brighton or surprised that a player would pick brighton over town - they finished higher than town last season, have higher gates & also do have an (old) first division heritage
