Just to get it off my chest
at 20:04 27 Jan 2024

Last 2 years have been amazing - grateful for all that the owners, MA and KMc have done this far.

But having got ourself into a great position it would be ridiculous not to make the signings we desperately need to get to the next level.

We have been saying for a long time now we need strikers and instead of getting them in we are shipping them out. We haven’t got Gallagher yet cos Blackburn don’t have a replacement - so how come Freddie left without a replacement.

Todays game would have been perfect for Freddie. As the only recognised first team striker amongst the match day squad. Broadhead is not a striker.

I was gutted we lost today but in creating 38 shots we weren’t outplayed just abject in front of goal. Would Freddie have been the difference or indeed any recognised striker?

I really hope (like every other ITFC fan) there are two quality ready made strikers being signed permanently this week but I’m worried they won’t be the Marcus Stewartesque signing we need to push us on.

Feel a bit better for that but MA you could do the rest.

Teaching unions accept 6.5% pay increase
at 22:25 31 Jul 2023

Teachers in England have had the greatest reduction in real term wages over the past 10 years of all of the OECD countries.

It was vital that there was an increase to retain staff in a sector which despite all the 'banter' is extremely challenging especially when so many other services have been cut. Teachers are also social workers, family liaison officers, supporting pupils with SEMH needs, high levels of SEND (EHCPs have doubled from 250000 to 500000 in the last 3 years) and perhaps educate them up the middle somewhere.

As I write this another advert recruiting teachers has just played out on TV, where the government target of 40000 teachers this year is on track to achieve just half of that if recruitment levels continue at the existing pace.

As a school leader the 6.5% pay increase is a reasonable increase in these times but the most important part is that 3% of that is being funded and 3.5% is to be found from existing budgets.

Most schools budgeted at 3.5% so should be able to sustain this, but will still mean a reduction in resources when schools are still contending with unfunded support staff pay increases and the huge increase in utilities which were also not funded.

In the short term this is the right outcome but does nothing to address much deeper issues in education.

Dullest Encounter With A Footballer
at 15:25 25 Jul 2023

15 years ago i met most of the town team at a service station on their way down to play Plymouth. I was at the urinal and thought the big bloke next to me looked like Jason de Vos, shrugged it off only to emerge into the service station and they were everywhere. Had a chat with Jim Magilton who told me my one year old daughter was 'lovely' and he held her for a photo opportunity, before looking longingly at Burger King and saying 'i shouldn't really it doesn't set the right example!' Then i went and got in the queue to Costa and Tommy Miller and Pablo were in front of me - I raised my eyebrows and said 'Pablo, Tommy' - not a flicker!

Ed’s doc on Disney
at 21:41 14 Apr 2023

Just watched the trailer for Ed Sheerans documentary on Disney. Don’t mind admitting I had a little tear in the eye and that’s just the trailer! Really like the bloke - very few megastars where you still feel like they’ve kept themselves grounded and Ed definitely falls into that category. Love the guy and will definitely be giving it a watch.

Doesn’t hurt that he’s also a tractor boy!

Fitness not transfers
at 18:14 29 Dec 2022

I think we need to think of this January transfer window as part of an ever evolving process of the squad. Let’s not just think what do we need to get ourselves promoted but what do we need to take the next steps on the championship. For that reason let’s get some good quality forwards in that will take us up and also compete well in the next tier.

90% of schools going bust
at 12:20 24 Oct 2022

I’m an exec head of two schools and it’s not so much the 5% rise for teachers (or budgeted for 4%) but the support staff pay rise which was completely out of the blue and totally unfounded. Support staff absolutely do deserve a raise where currently they are totally undervalued but to not have it funded will lead to inevitable redundancies and the standard of education compromised. Put the energy rise on top of this which also is a significant rise and school budgets are unmanageable and will inevitably lead to deficit situations. Need the government to act so I can start sleeping again!

Really inciteful commentary with great commentary in my opinion. Calling out the fans who don’t understand that possession football is important even going backwards to create space and opportunities. Definitely make him a permanent fixture in my opinion.

ITFC job - does this bother anyone else?
at 22:38 16 May 2022

This post made me look at, and enquire about, the head of education job. So thanks for the signpost. Currently an exec head and despite the exciting opportunity it might have been I just can’t return to being paid as pretty much a newly qualified teacher. Anyone got any advice for someone exploring getting out of education?

Match day ticket
at 08:33 19 Feb 2022

Can anyone help? My dad (over 65) has a ticket for today joining me and his grandchildren for todays game but has just tested positive. I want to change his ticket to an adult one so someone else can go but the ticket office I’ve just rung is only open Monday to Friday from 8.30. Any other way of changing it or just chance it that they’ll let that adult in?

And now I've tested positive for COVID.
at 14:42 24 Dec 2021

I tested positive and have just finished my 10 days so out of isolation, wife tested positive the day before me so is also out but the kids were determined to stay COVID free to protect their Christmas after we all had it last year. Eldest daughter tested positive on the 21st so once again family gathering all messed up and its just the 4 of us again. My kids are massively disappointed! Brothers son also tested positive so they are in the same boat! COVID can do one!
