Ashton: We Won't Execute Cobbold Stand Plan Until the Time is Right

yes. probably inevitable. very few clubs have resisted that urge, particularly as it's a convenient way of offsetting against FFP.

Loanee Harper Impresses Boss on Return to Exeter Team
at 10:27:32

Reading between the lines of those comments, it sounds like he hasn't always shown the right attitude in training or maybe the right work ethic.
Unquestionably, there is a quality player there but whether he thought success would just fall into his lap, only he knows.
Whatever the reason, it's good to see him making his mark because he's got the talent to play at a decent level. I saw him at Cheltenham when he first joined and, like Edwards, he was excellent that night.
But every time since, he's just been guilty of sleeping or naivety. If he's got back on track, maybe it's worth another look in the summer. Time is on his side, although I suspect we will get rid.

Baggott Joins Gills on Loan
at 00:23:25

Mikemuhrenthijssen…. Butcher's league debut was in the top flight against Everton not Rotherham in the third tier. It's a flawed comparison. I'm pretty sure you could only loan a couple of players back then so it's unlikely they would have considered sending him out particularly with Beattie's injury record.
You can moan about the decision to loan Baggott and you can back Dyer all you like but don't cite Butcher as an example because it has zero relevance.
Reading Baggott's quotes, he doesn't sound overly unhappy about the move.
We're not losing the player here and, right now, he's probably not ahead of Edmundsson, Woolfenden and Donacien.
I'd rather he developed in League Two than in average U23 matches.

Baggott Joins Gills on Loan
at 22:35:22

Mikemuhrenthijssen….I'm old enough to have seen Butcher and 1) he was better at that stage than Baggott is right now. And 2) there wasn't much of a loan system back then so it's unlikely he would have been sent out anyway.
Clubs operated with small squads boosted by academy products. For better or worse, times have changed. I don't see this harming Baggott or us. He'd be more frustrated playing u23 football here.

Thompson: Morsy's a Great Captain and a True Professional
at 10:50:47

Thompson's a decent player and is growing game by game. He hasn't been spectacular but he is well thought of and clearly a good prospect.
I think some of our fans think he's going to bomb forward and be like Burns but, as he says here, his mindset is more defensive. But that gives Burns the licence to attack on the other flank as Donacien shuffles over and Thompson fills in.
Penney is a little inconsistent and lightweight but is better going forward. I'm not convinced KVY is a left-back even though he's played there a fair bit. He never looks comfortable on his left foot. And Coulsen, although impressive, was just made of glass.
It's certainly a position we have to strengthen in the summer.

Former Owner Evans Linked With Move For Derby
at 16:25:39

Spot on Eddie. Evans wasn't a good owner but nor was he a truly bad one either. Bad ones are those that put the club at risk - I'm thinking Brighton way back, Coventry, Bury etc.
Evans was guilty of a succession of terrible decisions but at least he did the decent thing in the end and stepped aside.
If we're talking about being fair and balanced, let's be honest we don't know how our new ownership is going to turn out yet.
I think it is a little early to proclaim them as the Messiah even if we all agree they are a massive step up on Evans.
But at some point they will want a return for their buck. Hopefully we will be in the Prem by then but if the club is not in the position that they would like us to be, we will see what course of action they take.
Evans reached that crossroads when Mick was in charge and he pulled the plug on the investment. But to his credit he never put the club at risk of extinction.
I think Eddie's comment is fair even if we all despaired at Evans' ownership.

Downes Linked With Posh
at 09:20:20

No dig at either Downes or Dozzell but there's more chance of both players being in League One in 2-3 years' time than the Prem.
Both have potential, both flatter to deceive for different reasons. If they can knuckle down and push on with the right club, good luck to them.
But if you asked me to take an educated guess right now, I'm not sure either will become Prem players.
I wouldn't say I'm happy they've gone or are going but, like others, I'm not sure I'm totally disappointed either. The question I always ask is will they get you promoted? And there's no guarantee of that with either of them.

Edwards Linked With Wigan Move
at 11:56:19

Edwards is a decent player on his day but wildly inconsistent.
I watched him at Crawley and he looked superb at times and dreadful at others.
And that's why he's nowhere near the Prem and probably never will be.
I wouldn't have been unhappy if we'd kept him because I think he could thrive with a better midfield.
But it doesn't break my heart that he appears to be leaving and, let's be honest, you can say that about pretty much all of last season's squad.

Five Changes as Vincent-Young Returns and Chambers Drops to Bench
at 12:29:00

Spot on GatesPerm. Kenlock is inconsistent and probably very lucky to still be at the club having never nailed down a starting spot. Yes he played well when he broke into the side a month or so ago but now he's reverting to type. At the moment, he's become a better player in many eyes because his competition is a 35 year old. Neither are the future.

Banished Duo Angered By Manager's Comments
at 18:21:36

For those asking why Nolan was taken on the trip if he was going to be left out of the squad, that's common practice just in case you get a late injury or illness.
Nolan might feel aggrieved but that's tough. You're paid well, go and prove the manager wrong the next time you get a chance. Unfortunately the reality with Nolan is he has never justified his transfer fee and regularly flatters to deceive, even though quite clearly he's a reasonable player at this level.
I have absolutely no sympathy for him.
That said, I have absolutely no sympathy for Lambert either. He may be correct on this one but his man-management is shocking. When asked what they have to do to get back in the squad, he said he didn't know. Surely there has to be a path to forgiveness otherwise it just becomes vindictive or petty. Either way you're cutting your nose off to spite your own face.
Jackson was reckless and stupid but unless there is more to it than that, his punishment should be no worse than Downes'.
This just smacks of Lambert trying to deflect attention from himself.
I suspect we will lose tomorrow and he will be gone by early next week.

Skuse: Finishing Line in Sight
at 18:09:54

Skuse is definitely nearing the end of his career but he's been a good servant to Ipswich and a lot of the negative comments towards him have been either harsh or ill informed.
Yes he's not a creative player but if he had that side of the game to him, he would have been in the Prem not at Ipswich.
Instead he does the dirty jobs that go unnoticed or are rarely appreciated. Ask his fellow pros what they think of him and you'll get a very different response to a lot of people on this website.
I doubt Sunderland would have scored their goal the other week had Skuse been in Dozzell's position because he would have read and tracked the run.
Both Skuse and Chambers are still capable of doing a job for Ipswich this season but the clock is ticking on their playing careers.
Whether they should start matches is questionable but with games coming thick and fast, having experienced reinforcements is not a bad thing.

Bournemouth, Brighton and Palace Linked With Dozzell
at 10:22:12

You're not the only one, Unknown100. Too much pressure and expectation on him because of his name.
He's not as good as his dad at this age but they are very different players.
Lots of potential and no doubt a good prospect but too many fans portray him as some sort of messiah and he's not that.
I would be surprised if a Premier Lge club pays big money for him in this window.

Town Face Competition For Pilkington From Latics
at 10:19:09

The problem with missing out on Pilkington is he wasn't a loan.
How many permanent players will we land this window?
Evans won't want to commit and players may not want to sign for 6 months.
That leaves us with loans and of the 5 we've got, Pennington and Elder are the only ones who I can see dropping out of the squad altogether.

Loan Target Bogle Set to Join Birmingham
at 11:27:55

Not unhappy about this. He's struggled so far at a higher level. This sounds like a second or even third-choice signing made on the basis we desperately need a striker and Hurst worked with him at Grimsby.
I appreciate Hurst is keen on his former players but they must have the pedigree or potential to at least perform in the top half of the Championship.

Donacien Expected to Sign Tuesday
at 19:26:00

6ft is not particularly big for a centre back so I presume we're looking at him as a right-back or on the right of a 3-man defence.
We still need a commanding centre-back. Maybe Tilt is that man.
