Sea Change by Beck is an all time favourite album of mine. By his own admission heavily influenced by Histoire De Melodie Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg a groundbreaking album that was so far ahead of it's time in 1972. So many artists have held it up as an influence ...
In fact, an album that also falls into the OP's request.
I own a Hairdressing Salon so am used to finding good tunes to add to the vibe. Some of my faves over the years that immediately come to mind ...
William Onyeabor Royksopp Tosca David Holmes ... Bow Down to the Exit Sign Death in Vegas Beasties Boys ...The Inside from Way Out (Instrumental album) Lee Fields ... has made Instrumental versions of all his albums. Great background as well as a concentrated listen.
Compilations
Early Buddah Bar (First 4 or 5 excellent) Early Cafe Del Mar (Again first 4 or 5) Early Ku De Ta
Recent ones are crap ...
My all time favourite is the compilation album from Norwegian record label Telle. Retro beats. Amazing stuff.
I think Kmc summed it up in his post match. We came out in the second half raring to go but to concede straight away meant their confidence soared and ours immediately dropped.
I guess the big problem is that loss of confidence which is something we haven't been used to seeing. Obviously down to so many new players who weren't around last season and therefore were not part of the old team spirit that had grown through the two promotion seasons.
That attitude factor will I think be one ofvKeirens biggest challenges.
I wouldn't particularly say that but this has left me feeling more down then probably any game since McKenna came in. I think it's because I really thought we were in the ascendency after the Villa game.
It was like men against boys today and worst of all we've got to waitvtwo weeks before an opportunity to put it behind us.
Many years ago in the late 70's as a teenager the Sunday football team I played for made a trip to Benidorm. Basically, just a p1ss up but we had a couple of matches arranged against a Spanish Team and a team of Ex Pats.
Anyhow, we rocked up to play the ex pats to find a bunch of generally mid 30's and 40's blokes, many looking a bit worse for wear but boy were they good. There was one bloke strutting around the middle of the park who was so obviously of a higher standard that left me, at the time young fit and thinking I was the business, chasing shadows. I mean I'll never forget noticing how this bloke was controlling the game at times not even touching the ball. Just movement to send two of us going the wrong way to make space for a team mate. It was an absolute education.
We couldn't live with them and we got thrashed. They were even having half time drinks of beers!!
Anyhoo, after the game we found out a lot of the team were ex pros ... and the magician in the midfield. Well, it was Tony Kay, the English International and Britains most expensive player at the time, who got kicked out out of British Football in the Great betting scandal of 1964.
For the younguns out there he played for Sheffield Wednesday and he and another player Peter Swan layed bets that Wednesdsy would lose a game against, yes, Ipswich in 1962. Town won 2-0 with Ray Crawford netting both goals. I was just a baby when the actual scandal happened but it was sensational at the time and I believe there are books and films about it.
He was in Spain at the time as he was wanted in Britain for some other con.
What a player though. He literally nearly put two of us on our arses just with a dummy off the ball.
Sorry, long post, but a great memory that the thread bought back.
Been so long waiting for the album 'Songs of a Lost World' even though live versions of a number of the new tracks have been online a while. All sounding and said to be in the style of 'Disintigration' which has to be one of my all time favourite albums.
Great post. One thing that is really hitting me now, having been sad to see players leaving and our promotion winning squad being broken up, is how much I'm already falling in love with the new signings.
Like you I'm excited and can't wait for the next game.
There were some positives but seems clear to me that for some of our favourites from the last couple of seasons the Premier League is a step too far. I'd bet that the team that finishes this season will be quite different from the one that has started.
Thought Greaves was outstanding. Delap was very good. Omari showed signs that he will adjust to the higher level. Harness, yet again, put in a pretty good cameo. I hate to say it but Chappers looked lost.
