David McGoldrick was without doubt our match winner today. Cresswell and Tunnicliffe are forming a great partnership down the left side. Thought that Hyam had his best match of the season today. Defence looked solid today but would prefer to see Chambo at centre half. Gerkin more vocal than Loach but seems reluctant to catch a cross preferring to punch it out and nearly made a pigs ear of one .All in all a good team performance today and 3 very welcome points.

I thought that all the players were good today, Tunnicliffe,Skuse, the back for and of course McGoldrick were amongst the best, I though that Frank Nouble was actually quite good today, I don't mind him, just needs to score a couple more goals to change Town fans minds. He slowed down the play and didn't let Brighton attack and Edwards had a couple of chances which he wasn't too far away from scoring. In all, I thought that we had a brilliant game and showing top quality and possibly even top 6 quality! Keep that up promotion challengers for sure! COYB

Ok haven't posted in ages but wanted to give my view of the players....

Gherkin - not a bad keeper but not confident at crosses. Good distribution and vocal, could be far worse, look at Brightons x Man U keeper thought he was shocking!

Chambers - not a right back but gives his all and keeps a tight ship, great captain

Bera - very classy CB and a whole hearted player, good game

smith - great as ever in air, can't fault him

Cresswell - just wish he was better at set pieces! Grows with every game, a great signing!!

Anderson - clearly struggles with the tucked in role he is being asked to play

Tuniclife - classy but faded second half, hope we can keep past January

Hyam - controversial I know but I just don't think he is quite good enough

Skuse - with Mcgoldrick stood out first half! A great centre mid player whose tackles are so spot on... Our defence starts with him

Murphy - did the dirty stuff well today, not a skillful footballer like Mcgoldrick but does add something

Nouble - better today

Edwards, best performance by him all season, not stand out but he looks to be sharp once more, last home game he was truely woeful and I feared his career over

Wordsworth I would love to see start with skuse

Great game, so good football and onwards and upwards

Aside from McGoldrick I thought the rest of the side was impressive, did their jobs as required and at times made it look pretty simple. Defensively sound (Gerken made one error), passing was solid, build up play allowed us to create a few chances.
The reason I left McGoldrick out of the first bit was that he made the difference. His performance was as good as any I've seen up front for Town in the last few years or so. He looks like a premiership player (maybe a team like Fulham or the like). If he keeps it up it'll be like Marcus Stewart all over again.
Very solid team performance with a stand out performance from Dids. If the rest of the side get to his level we are top six easy!

bluelady I think your comments were spot on and I completely agree. A very solid performance and we never looked like we were going to concede after the 10th minute. Still not sure about Nouble though...

Gerken - not a lot to do today. Just wish he would be more commanding in the box.

Smith, Berra, Chambo, Cresswell - all solid, excellent.

Tunni - lively first half, quiet second.

Skuse - excellent tackles, commanding performance.

Hyam - huffed and puffed, gave the ball away a few times and did not know what to do going forward. Ffs have a shot once in a while!

Anderson - quiet game. Most of the play came from the left.

Murphy - ok first half, poor workrate second. Looked knackered!

Dids - outstanding.

Edwards - though he was excellent when he came on. Clearly pushing for a start.

Nouble - quick. That's about it. At least he managed to win a header!

Wordy - not enough time to make an impression.

Good overall team effort. COYB.

Forgot to say Brighton were absolutely pants. Deserved nothing, even though the ref gave them everything for most of the match.

Stunning weather, and a lovely drive through constable country, prior to arrival at a sun drenched Portman Road. Sprinklers worked hard to get some stick on the excellent looking pitch.

The stands did look very sparsely populated again; and the top of the Sir Alf is embarrassing. But the Albion fans had turned out in force. But as ipswich comfortably controlled this game, they fell silent, and the lower Sir Bobby built a good atmosphere, with even the lower Sir Alf stand getting quite boisterous! In fact several fans seem to get ejected - which would prove the only highlight for the Brighton fans.

So to the game and performance. Well done Mick, he has got a great work ethic and defensive midfield shape developing and I think we are going to be hard to beat throughout the season. Berra, cresswell, tunicliffe, and mcgoldrick were excellent. Smith , Skuse, Murphy, gerken, Hyam and chambers were good. BUT Hyam wasted some longer attacking passes, Murphy was not threatening goals nor running the channels (although he won a lot of headers and held up play for mcgoldrick) and chambers is just not playing in the right position). I had heard Anderson had improved at Wigan but he was poor again today.

Town were just so solid, and played the ball so high up the pitch, pressuring the Brighton back four relentlessly. They never got their game going. Mcgoldrick was on fire, his control of a class beyond this league. So wished he'd scored his chance from a hatrick; after a superb run from tunicliffe.

Great 3 points, but I think if we're serious about the top 6 then we need more attacking intent and we need to sort out the problem right hand side. Everything came from the left, and actually we are so reliant on cresswell as a key part of most of our crossing and attacking play.

I think this is why we're not taking some deserved points on the road.

Town were so dominant, and we had a period of passing in the second half which was wonderful. Skuse, Hyam, tunicliffe and cresswell heavily involved. But we did not actually create enough clear cut chances. And we deserved to be 3 up - always a danger when you don't see out a game.

I just think if we could get the right hand supplying, perhaps eventually with Hewitt and Taylor, we would be a really powerful team and challenge.

But don't want to take away from a great team performance, and a team very well prepared by mick. Onwards and upwards, and let's keep improving the atmosphere.

PS - Edwards was frustrating but also good in flashes, and perhaps deserves a start. Nouble made one good tackle and header, and closed down the defence well, but he makes Murphy look like van Persie!
