Town Linked With Mackail-Smith Bid
Town Linked With Mackail-Smith Bid
Wednesday, 27th Apr 2011 08:57

Town’s continued monitoring of Peterborough striker Craig Mackail-Smith has led to a number of this morning’s newspapers linking the Blues with a £2 million summer move for the 27-year-old. On Friday, TWTD reported that chief scout Steve McCall was at Posh’s 2-1 defeat at Leyton Orient, while manager Paul Jewell has also watched the Scotland international frontman in action.

The one-time St Albans Town, Arlesey Town and Dagenham and Redbridge striker was close to joining Norwich in March and looks certain to leave London Road in the summer having rejected a new contract. The 5ft 8in tall goal-getter’s current terms are up in the summer of 2012.

Watford-born Mackail-Smith has scored 31 goals this season, earning his first and so far only international cap for the country of his grandmother’s birth in a 2-0 defeat to Brazil in March. Previously he had played for England C, the non-league national side.

Town and the Canaries are unlikely to be the only clubs interested in the man who was recently named this season's League One Player of the Year.

Been saying we should sign him for ages..would be a good looking partnership with Wickham next season..will still need another striker though (so long as we can offload Priskin & Scotland).

also Kane Ferdinand and Ryan Hall are to be sold to Ipswich Town for a combined fee of £250,000 in the close season. There will be add-on's which potentially bring the fee to £500,000. make of it what you will its just what i have heard

Sorry if I have upset a few about Rhodes and his departure but I can speak as I hear and the source was I thought reliable. Huddersfield fans do love Rhodes but they say he has no pace and is very in and out hence his omission from the team several times this season. Can't argue with his goals tally though but can he do it at the next level - we may find out next season if the Terriers get promotion ?

This is the sort of player we should go for. The type maing big noises at lower levels, rather than the dire premiership failures. I also think Crewe's Clayton Donaldson might be worth a look

Who else are we going to attract? the longer we stay in this division bigger the chance of other clubs getting equally rich owners - it's all down to management and building a good squad and confidence and that means by and large buying players from this league and lower divisions. Mix these signings with the youngsters coming through with the odd Premier pedigree (Bullard) and lets see where it takes us!

Agree with StowTractorBoy. Need to forget Rhodes now, if we had kept him would Wickham have come onto the scene as well as he has? Regardless of what was right or wrong at the time, if Huddersfield think he is that brilliant they certainly wont be willing to let him go. We will have Wickham up front next year and going by Jewell's previous regimes at former clubs he likes a big target man and a pacey guy alongside. Rhodes and Wickham wouldnt work. Hence why i expect the names of Vaughan, Sharp, and CML are all being brought up

A natural goalscorer will score goals at any level ,and Rhodes is a natural .Very poor management on Keanes part ,apparently he wouldnt even takes the boys phone call when he was trying to stay .
And to all those saying he is not proven at this level nor were Holt , Maynard ,Jackson,Paynter,Morrison ,Becchio before they stepped up but all have scored more than Miskin and Scotland this season.
CM-S would also be a good signing also like Boyd from PBoro and Sharp

Well in that case if we have a sell on clause in his contract, we should bid for him as technically nobody will get him cheaper than us!

Ferdinand and Hall connection is on a well known rumours website but then I have been admonished for my alleged rumours.

We need to sort out the defence first, guys. A RB and LB are priorities in my book.

Stow - if you take your rumours from THAT website (where people can just post whatever they like) then you're more of an idiot than I thought.

0-0 get's you 1 point. Most good managers agree with that.
Next is to score more than the opposition.
Quite simple really,so how come it is so complicated.

I rate MS, but i think he could end up in the prem. I think Billy Sharp would be an awesome signing but my mate who ia an avid Donny fan said that he is a lone sriker and doesnt like to be paired up!!!! He also said that he is pure class but spends a lot of time on the treatment table.

Stowmarket is the best place to live! And priskin and carson shud be upfront nexxt season! Wickham sold realistically for 5 mil

Why do people keep banging on about Rhodes? Yes he has done well. Maybe we shouldn't have sold him but think something behind the scenes happen there with his father leaving. Billy Sharp would be my first chance, Looked class when they played us.

please sign him up , i would like to see us sign ethier - CMS , Sharp , Vaughan or maybe 2 of them 3 ?

David Nugent and Greg Halford both on frees from Pompy would be nice as well ? maybe Michael Brown for 1 season to be DM that were after ?

also someone like Pilkington from Huddelsfield good natural left winger and who scores goals ! .

markeyboy......surely nugent can go and stuff himself??????
The problem here is any sought after player is not going to sign for this club.
Be honest if it was a straight choice between ipswich and norwich who other than one of us would not chose norwich????????

Calm down dolly I didn't make the original posting on the subjects Ferdinand and Hall I merely stated they are on a well known website.

Norwich wanted to take CMS on loan until end of season and thought they just had to snap their fingers and Posh would accept, they only offered 1M and quite rightly were told to get stuffed by Barry Fry, then announced on the Anglia footy show that they had signed him, they were lucky that Posh did'nt report them to the FA for illegal approach after the deadline, he would be a good signing, natural finisher but they will want between 2-2.5M, don't blame them.
