Leeds Thrashed at QPR
Friday, 26th Apr 2024 22:05

The battle for promotion at the top of the Championship took another dramatic turn this evening when Leeds United were thrashed 4-0 at QPR, a result which confirms Leicester City’s promotion to the Premier League and puts the Blues in the box seat for the second automatic spot.

QPR, who comprehensively banished any fears of relegation, went in front through Ilias Chair in the eighth minute, added a second through Lucas Andersen on 22, Lyndon Dykes made it three in the 73rd minute and Sam Field added the fourth on 86.

The result means only the Blues can now catch Leicester, who return to the top flight after one year away, with Leeds four points behind the Foxes with only one match left to play.

As it stands ahead of the Blues’ game at Hull City on Saturday evening, Town are third, a point behind Leeds with three games to play.

With the Whites having a goal difference still superior by seven despite tonight’s heavy defeat, five points from those matches enough to seal promotion back to the Premier League after 22 years away even if the West Yorkshire side win their final-day match at home to fourth-placed Southampton.

As a schoolboy supporter of QPR when living in London I never saw Rangers play better in >150 games before tonight. After 20 years subsequently as a Town ST holder they have now opened the door to us finally getting back to the Premiership where we belong. Interesting to note Rangers had both Asmir Begovic and Jack Colback in their numbers who maybe are reflecting that their involvement to night helped their old team push forward tonight. Come on Blues, let’s confirm our promotion now!!!

Even if we slip up and only get a draw from these next two games, we might end up having to thrash Huddersfield something like 9-0 on the final day. Very doable with this team!

I’ll be delighted if we make the premier league, but like many supporters we will reflect on those who have worked so hard for us over two very successful seasons and will never wear our famous shirt after this season ends.

Four cups of tea out of my Ipswich Town mug today and now I dare to dream. Guess I'll have to do the same tomorrow! COYBs

So many twists & turns could happen in the next 8 days. Anything from Champions to 4th, so many results & so many permutations. Crazy season!
Wow! What a rollercoaster! I'm feeling sick now! Can I get off?
Premiership is at our feet! Let's see how much our lads want it, starting with a win tomorrow.
Whatever happens, Huddersfield at home will be a party!

Now a draw wouldn’t look so bad tomorrow and there’s no longer pressure on us to chase the game. I’m going for a narrow win maybe 2-1

Incredible!...didn't see that one coming, hope that doesn't change our mentality coming into the game tomorrow - go for a win all out.

Normandyblue We just kept hanging in there the whole season. There is a typical Championship pattern where two clubs pull away from the rest and stay ahead. Leicester were fortunate to be so far ahead and for Leeds not to capitalize on all those loses.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Leicester lose both of their remaining matches now that they are up.

As I said keep believing stay calm nearly there but not quite let's get behind the mighty ITFC right to the Premier league massive 2 away games but at least our boys haven't got 29000 expectations just us 2500 giving our all for the boys in blue come on

This just goes to prove that speculation is pointless. The ultimate irony would be if we clinch promotion Tuesday night when everyone has been saying all season that it would go down to the last day.

For the sake of our nerves I hope that we clinch it on Tuesday night rendering the final game irrelevant .... coyb

Good morning to anyone waking up to the news of last night’s unimaginable score line. What did you dream about? On Tuesday we got a win without kicking a ball when Saints got thumped. Last night was a similar outcome. Tonight we get a chance to show our character and style. I can’t wait. COYB

Brilliant performance and result from QPR.
It all just goes to show that Kieran has been right all along to focus on our games and not waste time and energy worrying about what other teams are doing. Looking back at some of the comments following our Middlesbrough match when it was going to be Southampton plus one other getting promoted and then when Leeds beat Middlesborough we suddenly had 3 'must win' games.
So congratulations to Leicester who are promoted, FACT, who can look forward to a points deduction on their return to the Premier League.
3 more draws could be enough for us, so I won't be praying for a Norwich win today! In Kieran we trust - just keep doing what we have been doing all season and we will finish where we deserve. And don't forget to enjoy the ride!

Calm down all of you, its crunch time and we will see if the manager and players are good enough to step up to the plate.
