Hutchinson Recalled to Chelsea
Wednesday, 8th May 2024 12:03

Blues Young Player of the Year Omari Hutchinson has reportedly already been called back to parent club Chelsea.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful season on loan with the Blues, netting 11 times in his first full campaign in senior football.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have told the Jamaica international that they want him back at the club next week in order to run the rule over him in training and hold talks regarding his future.

Town fans - and manager Kieran McKenna - have made it clear they want him back at Portman Road next season, while the player himself was non-committal when asked following Saturday’s match, although previously having said he’d welcome a return to Portman Road in 2024/25.

Other clubs at home and elsewhere in Europe are also said to expressed an interest in loaning Hutchinson, who has a year left on his Chelsea contract but with the club having an option for a further season.

Reports last week claimed they were looking to offer him new terms, although it’s thought talks on a new deal are still to take place, and it’s understood Chelsea will need to sell players over the summer to comply with the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Whether Hutchinson, who is believed to be valued at around £20 million, is among them remains to be seen with a number of Europe’s big clubs having previously been linked and with his spell at Town having been keenly watched.

But, as it stands, the former Arsenal academy player is expected to go on Chelsea’s pre-season tour to the US in July with decisions on his future likely to be made after that.

Town are only able to loan two players in the Premier League, which will give manager McKenna some tough decisions.

But, speaking after Saturday’s game, the Blues boss said he’d like to keep some of this season’s loan players at the club.

“For sure, it’s a special group,” he said. “We’ve had success with that last year, keeping the group together, bringing in someone like George [Hirst] on loan and the way he’s escalated.

“Of course, we’ll look at all possibilities, we’ll build a squad as strong as we can but the players we’ve had in on loan this year have been an absolute credit to themselves and have been a really big part of the group.”

Fellow forward Jeremy Sarmiento impressed during his half-season spell from Brighton and Hove Albion and at the time he joined in January it was reported in Ecuador that the loan switch could be extended into a second season.

Wasn't Christian Walton recalled by Brighton before we signed him

Let’s be realistic, yes he’s good for our squad and yes he has the fans. However signing expensive players (which he is in comparison to the entire squad) Will only serve to destabilise the group. History tells us when you buy big name players into a stable squad other lesser players start looking around and their performance drops off. You’ve only got a look at previous signings the last time we were in the premiership. Much better looking at up-and-coming talent and bringing them on Then putting all your eggs in one basket.
We love you, Omari and wish you all the very best for the future.
PS, please don’t score against us.

At the end of season awards, Keiran asked Mr Ashton for Omari for his 38th birthday present, knowing how astute Mr Ashton is ,he might just ablige .

Im a huge fan of Sarmiento like many others on here and would love to see him back at Portman road but he is someway off being Premier league standard. Fans never like seeing their favourites depart the club they become attached. Hutchinson in my opinion still hasn't full filled his full potential and it's not beyond possibility we could get him on the cheap for another year. But there's plenty of young players out there we can sign and get attached to and no doubt the club already have iron's in the fire.

Carvalho on loan from Liverpool would be a good start.

Surely we're now in a position to bring in Sarmiento & Moore on permanent deals?...leaving room for Omari and one other on loan?

It would be interesting to sign him with Chelski having a buy back option in a year at the same price..... that could work for their money issues maybe

Some of the comments on here lol!
@karlsfandangol
NOBODY I mean NOBODY in the prem or Europe is going to pay £20mill on a player that is of yet proven in the prem leauge!
He will be worth that if he is under mckenna for a couple of seasons!
These financial rules and clubs getting docked points is a big Indicator!
O.ari will be back on loan to us(hopefully) or we sign him for 5-7mill with add ons!
20mill lol Chelsea living in dream land

If Chelsea hang out for 20m that is a lot of money for us. I like the idea of a loan, if possible, while we look for Premier proven right cb, midfielder and striker and apply the 20m towards those purchasers .
I suspect Ashton and Kieran will be well aware of some current Championship players who could comfortably step up. We would also be wise to keep funds aside for January in case we get off to a slow start.
Anyway next season is going to be fascinating....coyb

A bit of a misleading headline, it's the end of the season, of course Omari would be going back!

Going forward I sincerely hope KM addresses our centre of defence frailties, unfortunately, there's just no way Wolfy, Burgess or Edmundson are close to PL standard. For me this is the area we needed to address after getting promoted from Div1.

As harsh as it may seem, the number of goals we shipped in the Championship should be an indicator of things to come if we stick with what we have.

It seems quite simple.

Chelsea have a problem with the profit and sustainability rules. He is a marketable asset. They have recalled him to assess him with a view to selling to the highest bidder. The last thing that they will want is for him to leave at the end of his contract.

Whatever happens do not blame the lad as it’s only partly under his control.

I think if Ipswich are serious about staying in the premier league which obviously they are, then put a 20m bid down for Omari & £15m bid for Jeremy or whatever he is worth. Get the deals done on these two incredibly talented young players. Then loan a couple of prem stars after these two are signed. COYB

If I was his father I would definately want him back at Ipswich for another season. He is happy here, he is playing and he is developing his game fast. If I was a Chelsea fan I would see him as a very exciting youngster who is not yet a proven premier league player but being improved massively by the coaching staff at Ipswich. From the Chelsea viewpoint I would be happy for him to be sold or loaned again to Ipswich where he can now be tested in the premier league. As an Ipswich fan (which I am) I want him back as he is a very level headed young man who wants desperately to learn and improve. He loves the way Ipswich play and he has fitted in to the family atmosphere of the squad like a duck to water. The down side for me is his agent who will want a big pay deal or a huge transfer and big wages for his client. Unfortunately money talks and many a promising career has been ruined by big money moves which haven't worked out for the player. Omari loves playing and he needs to play regular football and enjoy it. Sitting on a bench full of millionaires may be good financially but he may never reach his true potential.

I would like Omari to be here next season and I think he would be keen to come back too because he's not going to get many (if any) minutes at Chelsea. Omari knows that Keiran has made him a much better player and I'm sure he would like to resume that relationship, whether that be another loan or a permanent transfer. If Chelsea do decide to sell he will probably go to the highest bidder, so he's unlikely to finish up here. Although he's finished the season really well and is a very exciting prospect, I fail to see how Chelsea could justify a fee of 20 million. He's only had one season of first team football, at Championship level, and mostly as a sub. Good as he is, I wouldn't want us to spend more than 2.5 million on him.

Churchmans

That is the price that is being thrown around on here not one I made up.

But in the prem anything is possible Man U pay £80 million for Anthony and £35 million for Sanchez
