McKenna's agent has played a blinder
at 19:31 27 May 2024

Indeed.

It would be interesting to know the release clause in the new deal, if signed.

I hope it includes a relegation clause as we would not want to get stuck paying sky high wages if we come back down, which is likely for any club going up from the Championship.

Premier League TV coverage
at 22:17 26 May 2024

It's possible to get Sky Sports on Now TV for around £20 a month usually. They send offers near the start of the football season if you have used them before. That won't cover the matches on TNT however.

Southampton wearing black at Wembley

Thanks. It's crazy that teams cannot change their socks, so instead have to wear the full second/third kit. Southampton have often worn black or red socks in previous seasons with their home shirt.

The Southmapton home shirt is half red and half red & white stripes, with black shorts.

Why are they not in their traditional kit? You'd think they would be red and white at Wembley. It seems to be a trait of modern football that teams do not wear their proper colours. I know Arsenal wore yellow against us in 78, but read that was because they had had previous success in that colour.

I think those charges need to be resolved one way or the other, as otherwise this could damage the Premier League's reputation. The other clubs getting points deductions and then them being reduced on appeal isn't a good look either, and some delays can ultimately determine what leagues teams are in.

The Premier League's TV contracts are collosal, but may have reached a peak and start to wain if the title races are not seen to be fair, competitive and exciting. The cost of TV subscriptions is rising, and advertising is increasing.

Those flashing adverts at Man City are horrible. The casino advert looks taller than the linesman.

Prem clubs to vote on scrapping VAR

Yes, exactly. Think how Coventry felt when their winner against Man Utd was disallowed in the FA Cup Semi Final.

Please scrap it. I want to enjoy football and celebrate goals when the ball goes into the net, not minutes later after VAR analysis. VAR is making football less enjoyable.

Man City nearly there
at 22:52 14 May 2024

Agreed, and it wouldn't surprise me if Man City win the league by a bigger margin in the coming seasons. It also annoys me that Man City don't wear their proper colours away from home, and at home play in front of those huge electric adverts. TV companies ought to be careful as fans may not what to shell out big money for this.

Why were Hull City
at 23:10 28 Apr 2024

It would especially be an issue if the away team wore the home team's colours. When we wore black, Derby wore white. If the opposition wore blue at Portman Road it would have been worse.

When I was young I used to know all the home and away colours and teams were recognisable. These days they seem to play in any colours. Man City wore white today at Nottingham Forest.

I hated it when Ipswich wore black at Portman Road, and am glad we didn't repeat that this season. I am not sure why the EFL allow it. It is bad enough when teams wear their second and third shirts away from home, when there is no colour clash at all, as seems to happen all the time these days.

Onana, pointless booking him

It doesn't make sense to me why a second yellow card in the shootout wouldn't result in a red card, as it is part of the match. Surely a sub-keeper could come on if available, or a player could go in goal.

Perfect from an ITFC viewpoint
at 18:29 21 Apr 2024

Hard to say, as a cup final could have been a distraction for them.

VAR is taking the joy out of football, as is playing semi finals at Wembley, scrapping replays and bombarding us with advertising.

Fck you United. Fck you modern football.

VAR will keep smaller clubs out of cup final, if scrapping replays doesn't. Manchester v Manchester in the final then, dull for us but it is what the money men want.

'New Look' Women's Euro 2025 Qualifiers
at 08:34 6 Apr 2024

The main competition should be competitive, but I think the qualifiers should be an equal chance for every team. As it stands the big teams play each other every match, which seems to be the way all football is going for the TV companies and advertisers. If men's international qualifiers go the same way, Harry Kane's 62 goals will never be beaten.

Only three EPL clubs making pre tax profit?

It makes you wonder how the investors in ITFC hope to make a return on their money, even if we get promoted to the Premier League. How can we be competitive on the pitch and make a financial return to pay back the vast investment?

I see there are vastly different qualification rules in different groups of four. If England (group A3) finish bottom, we will still qualify for the play-offs. If Scotland or Wales win their groups (B2 and B4) they would only get a play-off spot. I suspect it is about protecting the bigger nations and having more closely matched teams play each other on TV. It is linked to the Nations' League somehow and becomes more complicated that I can be bothered to work out. I wish football could be kept simple!

England playing in dark grey shirts at home
at 19:12 27 Mar 2024

I agree, and wonder if it will be detrimental to football overall in the long run if teams continue to weaken their identities by wearing second and third kits when they could wear home colours.

Imagine if we got promoted and Liverpool came to Portman Road wearing a third kit rather than red, it would deminish the occasion a bit for me.

I would have thought TV companies would want clubs to be instantly recognisable rather than viewers needing to work out which team is which. It makes me think back to that international match a couple of years ago where England Women wore orange and the Netherlands wore white.

I am so glad Ipswich have not repeated that this season. We should always play in blue at Portman Road.

Going back to England, the colours of that tiny little flag on the back of the collar of the white England shirt caused uproar, with even the Prime Minister speaking about it. Yet, marketeers can change the whole colour of our kit and little is said?!
