The Ofcom list is old hat now really, including the Derby & Grand National (nobody watches the Derby apart from racing fans & I guess the bookies want to keep the National on terrestrial TV so that the once a year punters still have their flutter), the men's & women's singles finals at Wimbledon, the FA Cup Final (trying to pretend it's still a national event), the Rugby League Challenge Cup final (really?) . For me, the only ones that should remain protected are the World Cup & Euros finals (national teams involved) plus the Olympics. |

FPTP has huge imperfections, as it can translate receiving no more than 35% of the vote, as with Blair & Labour in 2005, into 53% of the seats and a comfortable working majority. It also makes it very hard for a new party to get established, as piling up votes & coming 2nd or 3rd gets you n reward at all. The SNP is the mirror image of this, winning 5% of the vote but 9% of the seats because their vote was concentrated in Scotland. Obviously PR means that the composition of the Commons would reflect public opinion (& more people might vote for minority parties if they felt it wouldn't be a wasted vote) but the problem is that this would inevitably lead to unstable coalition governments & because PR benefits smaller parties, an inevitable strengthening of the extremist parties, both right & left. Italy & Israel are both good examples of coalitions where extremists have wielded a lot of power. |

The Tories are going to be soundly thrashed, partly dependent on how the Reform UK vote holds up. If they appear certain to be thrashed, some of the right wing might be happy to vote for Reform as the game is up. I doubt it will be as bad as the polls suggest, but they are likely to elect a right wing leader to replace Sunak, which will condemn them to 10 years or so in Opposition. |

Ladapo is 31 & has 1 year left on his contract. I reckon he's on about 14k a week. He was a late developer who proved himself to be a good League 1 striker over the past few years. He could end up back at Rotherham or at the likes of Birmingham. We're unlikely to get a fee for him, but a decent League 1 club might want him (though not Charlton) or else we'll have to loan him out, although we might avoid a pay off if someone will give him a 2 or 3 year deal. |

I personally doubt any of those will be in the Town squad next season. |

While McKenna is an ambitious manager, I think £6m a year floats most people's boat. Management can be a capricious career. |

Yes, I've just checked & Burnley signed 16 new players last summer! Everyone will have their own view as to where Town need strengthening, but I'm hoping we don't sign umpteen new players - just some who are better than what we have, plus some with PL experience. I would also expect some younger players with potential to improve. |

Hmm..Karren Brady's idea of changing West Ham United's name to "West Ham Olympic" had a fairly short shelf life. |
| Forum Reply | Trump: Jury has reached verdicts at 09:21 31 May 2024
While the scary thing is that the trial verdict will convince even more of the Trump diehards that the whole system is rigged against him, the reality is that some of Trump's marginal supporters are likely to be dissuaded from voting for him by this verdict so his re-election chances have probably been diminished. |

I'm not saying we're doomed to relegation but yes, McKenna is going to need better players and/or to adopt a different style of play. Note there was criticism of the rigidity of his style of play after Leeds thumped us at Elland Road (and some criticism after they also put 4 past us at PR). |

Burnley picked up 101pts in the Championship in 2022-23, playing excellent football under Kompany. He is still well enough thought of to have been given the Bayern Munich job. They've just been relegated comfortably. If we are going to do much better than them, we are going to need considerably better players than we currently have. Identifying them, affording them & persuading them to come to Town is going to be quite a task, especially as McKenna has recruited so far largely from Britain. |
| Forum Thread | McKenna's contract at 07:44 31 May 2024
Have any more details been leaked out? Yes, I'm delighted that he appears to have committed to Town & is now unlikely to jump ship for a middling PL club or even the poisoned chalice called Chelsea. I also don't have a problem with us paying him £6m a year, but does this include a bonus for keeping Town in the PL (& probably bonuses for winning trophies or League position) ? Also, is there a relegation clause? While I don't necessarily think KM should go if we go down, should we be saddled with paying him £6m a year if in the Championship? There's lots of talk about players having "relegation clauses" in their contract. |

We have to get used to this. McKenna has become a hot property & he will be name-tagged for every PL managerial vacancy that come up. This will continue into the season as PL owners dread relegation, unless of course Town are absolute pants next season. |

That's why clubs poach other clubs' managers, because the cost is a fraction of the loss ensuing if a club is relegated from the Premier League. |

Yet another reminder what a horrible League is the 3rd tier & how grateful I am that we got out of it, though at one time it was looking unlikely. |

Women's international football is about the level of male U16 teams. That doesn't mean that a coach can't make the jump to PL or Championship level, but you have to realise what a jump that is. Paul Hurst was a good coach at League ! level, but out of his depth in the Championship. |

You can't hypothecate assets. Spending the money on ground improvements, which they were probably going to have to do anyway, purely releases other funds to be wasted on transfer fees & wages. |

If Aaron Cresswell wasn't a former Town player, would any of us be recommending us signing a 34 year old, whose career is clearly on the downslide, to act as back-up? I doubt McKenna will be influenced by a player's Town history (although it may have helped us get Kieffer Moore on loan). |
