Them Budgies are talking about a new shirt sponsor.
at 15:18 16 May 2024

I'd forgotten who their current one is, so had to have a look on BBC for shirt pictures, but unfortunately I'd updated all my links to ...teams/premier-league/... now so it was a bit of a faff.

Anyhow, I got there in the end and was reminded that it's LOTUS, which if I remember correctly, stands for 'Lack Of Trophies; Up Sister'.

Any helpful suggestions for them?

Brasso?

Edit: swapped to Football category, which I think is right?

‘Magical thinking’: hopes for sustainable jet fuel not realistic, report fin

I think we all knew this really, didn't we, if we're honest.

We can't keep making excuses to carry on living the way we do, or the laws of physics are likely to really fk us over, and probably a lot sooner than most of us expect.

There's a (short) thread on the OinkUn forum entitled 'Fans were fantastic today'. I don't think it's supposed to be sarcastic? I'm going to be charitable here and assume that Sky had positioned their microphones in the bogs or under Daniel Farke's fat arse, because I couldn't hear anything from the Norwich fans all game on the telly. Didn't hear a great deal of Leeds either to be honest. Twas drab, visually and aurally.

To be fair the OP said 'The yellow reminded me of Wembley. Noise was immense before the game and Leeds were as quiet as I’ve ever heard them.' Now last time I looked Wembley had red seats and all the seats I could see today were yellow (albeit with funny arm and head attachments which I though was weird, although one or two of them did look like they were moving - was it windy?) and if the noise was 'immense' before the game, I'm disappointed that I missed that because the game itself was an utter borefest and I did nod off a couple of times until Goodman woke me with a witticism.

I think I'll give up watching lower league football now.

Have Norwich fans not got legs or arms, ffs?

In a play off semi final home leg they need to win, the three sides of the ground that we can see are ALL just sat there doing absolutely nothing and by the sound of it not singing either. Wtf?

Thought it might be an idea to have a fairly tight thread of (perhaps mainly external?) content about how people see our chances and how we might have to tweak for next season.

Nice one to start:

We did it!

I think it's finally sinking in.

For me, time stopped somewhere after the Boro result when we gained a point on Leeds and a point on Leicester, but knew we had a hiatus where we could fall well behind but still have the opportunity to catch up, no matter what. I think I went into a bit of a daze then, and it's only this evening that I feel I'm really coming out of that.

We did it.

Priorities

Listening to Radio 4 news this morning, these were the items in order with the time allocated to each.

1. (1:20) Online safety
2. (1:02) Airport arrivals eGates failure
3. (1:15) US arms delivery to Israel suspended
4. (1:02) A year of smashed ocean temperature records
5. (0:12) John Swinney leading SNP
6. (0:44) Hazards around abandoned mines
7. (1:05) German far right
8. (0:50) Garrick Club admitting women
9. (0:51) Ordnance Survey using local names
10. (0:12) Ireland qualifying for Eurovision

In itself, it's a trivial matter, I realise that, but it really struck me how items 2. and 4. received the same amount of time and where they were in respect to each other in the running order.

The passport eGates item was delivered with emphasis on passengers being delayed by 'over two hours' and that there was 'chaos' and one person had to spend 'longer in the terminal than he had in the air'.

The Sea Surface Temperature item mentioned broken temperature records 'every single day during the last year because of Climate Change' and by more than 'one third of a degree' on 47 of those days, which is a 'huge margin'. Also it mentioned the 'worldwide coral bleaching' event which is ongoing right now.

Yes, governments and businesses have to drive through change if we are to have any chance of something like we are used to as a way of life surviving the next few decades, but WE have to drive the agenda as well, and we are still, in effect, just ignoring things and hoping they go away, are we not?

Just look at that chart on the second link and have a really good think about what it represents.

What is this thing called love?
at 19:26 4 May 2024

Having maintained, for the last twenty years, a somewhat snooty and snobbish attitude and complete disengagement with the FA Barclaycard Premiership or whatever the thing is called, I found myself just now listening avidly, whilst doing the washing up, to a match between Wolverhampton Wanderers (I wasn't sure they still existed) and apparent table-toppers Manchester City - yes City!

Whilst the atmosphere seemed a bit flat and they kept stopping the game to refer to some bloke called Mr Veeyayarr (or something), it did still sound like football. Town will surely do well in there next season because apparently old Al 'Finger' Haaland is still playing for the leaders!

I did actually, for the first time since the end of the game today, shed a little tear or two into my Fairy Liquid suds.

Well, we've got no choice - we have to engage with that monster next year because..........................................

"WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE, SAY WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE!
COME - ON - YOU - BLUE - BOYS"
