Chelsea Look Away From McKenna
at 10:51:04

So this fiasco is going to rumble on for at least another week then, we are having to dance to Uniteds tune before we know if we retain our manager or not.

Regardless of the agent’s agenda here he works for McKenna who ultimately must be OK with having his name openly hawked around multiple PL clubs. I don’t have a problem with him leaving but the way it’s been done is disrespectful to Ipswich in my opinion.

This is the sort of thing Ashton should be concentrating on, not having to devote his time on a situation created by McKenna and/or his agents!

Part Two: The Change in Ownership to Gamechanger and the Financial Wash-up
at 11:16:19

“If you appoint six well-credentialed managers and all six fail you can’t say it was down to poor decision-making. It would be fairer to say that luck or circumstances played a major role”

Or that you have created an environment where pretty much any manager is going to fail because the financial support, infrastructure and support staff being provided is inadequate. We could have appointed Pep himself under Evans and it wouldn’t have made any difference. After Evans initial plan, such as it was, failed miserably he didn’t have a clue what to do and was allowing the club to literally die on its feet.

There are no saving graces for Evans time here. It was 14 wasted years which imho was on the verge of doing irreparable damage to the club. Frankly if I never hear that man’s name again it will be too soon!

We’ve been handed another massive opportunity. Let’s take this one.

Part One: The Descent Into The Marcus Evans Eras
at 19:14:07

“Therefore, it would be unfair to dismiss him as an opportunist”

You have got to be kidding me! Evans was a wide boy chancer who thought he could make money out of a football club by chucking in a few million, get promotion to the promised land of the PL and then milk the club for all it was worth and/or sell it on for a big profit. His lack of real interest in the club as a long term investment could not have been made clearer than by his appointment of Clegg, a man with no background in football whatsoever but who, through his connections with the British Olympic Committee, would enable Evans to get his hands on London 2012 tickets for his ‘other activities’. Anyone who doesn’t think that was the case, just check how long Clegg lasted after London 2012!

Once his original plan blew up spectacularly in his face, Evans didn’t have a clue. There was no plan for years other than managed decline and I think he would have sold up long before he did if we hadn’t somehow managed to limp into the playoffs under MM, convincing Evans he might be able to get success on the cheap. As it was he just let the club slowly rot, aided by a predominantly supine fan base who seemed happy with the ‘he saved us argument’. Saved us for what I’d like to know as we were only ever going one way under him. I’d put money on us being a League 2 club now if he hadn’t finally realised his time here was done.

Quite how a supposedly successful business man could make such a mess of the opportunity here I don’t know but I can only assume his ego got in the way. The new owners have shown in three short years what can be done with judicious financial investment and appointing the right people experienced in the professional football industry.

Morsy Named Player of the Year
at 22:51:52

Well deserved but the club have got to sort these award ceremonies out, and how!

For two years now it’s been an utter shambles. Doing them after a game just does not work. Do them before a game or don’t do them on the pitch at all. There were even less fans left in the ground to witness the awards today than last year and that was embarrassing enough.

Town Dismiss 400 Staff Tickets Claim
at 15:00:19

Wrong blues1, we were allocated 2022 tickets according to the ITFC website before the game, and the 1600 travelling Ipswich fans comment from Norfolk police leaves a 400+ discrepancy which ties in with what is being alleged!

There is something not right here and the club would do better to come clean before it gets further out of hand.

Town Dismiss 400 Staff Tickets Claim
at 12:30:44

I’m still not convinced the 400 figure is wrong. It would certainly explain why Norfolk police were talking about only 1600 ITFC fans making the trip before the match.

The Club haven’t made many mistakes since the takeover but this seems to be one and continuing to defend it with what comes across as a dismissive statement makes it worse. Just admit the mistake, apologise and say it won’t happen again.

Having said all that we have five cup finals coming up and cannot afford for this incident to drive a wedge between the Club and supporters. Everyone needs to be on the same page starting tomorrow night!

Wagner: My Players Wanted it More
at 17:33:50

Hate myself for saying it but he’s absolutely spot on!

We just never really turned up. No passion, no intensity, no obvious desire to win the game. We got what we deserved, nothing.

How much this result hurts us will become clearer as time goes on, we’ve already got a get out of jail free card today with Leeds losing. One thing is for sure though, we will have to play a lot better than today for the final five games to get automatic.

McKenna: We Didn't Hit Our Usual Levels
at 16:36:03

No getting away from the fact it was a poor performance today. You wouldn’t have known we were top of the league on that evidence and for a Derby game we had no intensity or obvious passion to get the win.

Having said all that, whenever we have had a bad result before we have come back stronger so hopefully it will be the same again!

Don’t forget a lot of the money spent is putting right the years and years of underinvestment by Evans. Had he done what was needed at the time it was needed Gamechanger wouldn’t have had to spend as much as they have on infrastructure for example.

Palace Reportedly Fail in Move For McKenna
at 18:01:29

£4 million is probably the amount which activates a release clause in his current contract. I imagine it was the highest amount we could get agreement on for him to sign it.

If he ultimately wants to leave then so be it, no point in keeping a manager, player or anyone else who has their head turned. Ashton will no doubt have contingency plans and names in mind if necessary, how many of us had heard of McKenna before his appointment?

Hope he stays and sees the project through but it’s not the end of the world if he doesn’t. No one is bigger than the Club.

Striker Remains Priority For Town on Deadline Day
at 11:00:39

Time will tell but doesn’t look as if our transfer window has gone to plan as far as strikers are concerned. Think we are paying for not getting another striker in the summer window aside from Hirst.

Al-Hamadi is clearly one for the future and expecting him to go from League Two to leading a Championship promotion push is a big ask which will put a lot of pressure on the lad. Not saying he can’t do it but it’s risky.

Gallagher has clearly been our main target but have we chased him for too long? Rightly or wrongly we now look like we are scrabbling around to get anyone in which isn’t great.
