Slightly odd timing with all that's going on but I keep thinking it would be nice to do a statue of a legend while they are still alive so who better than Mick Mills?
He's number one in appearances.
Captain for the FACup and EUFA Cup (two of our three shirt stars).
Was also 1st Div runner-up 80–81, 81–82 and 2nd Div champion 1967–68.
Also the first Ipswich England captain and MBE to boot.
Still analyses the Ipswich games and does a lot of foundation work.
The Paul Cook demolition job was absolutely necessary as most of the squad were no longer fit for purpose and had a relaxed attitude to the job in hand. That decision was given even more credibility when many went to Colchester the following season and flopped there too.
This time is different though. We have a decent squad with a great squad attitude with many premier ready players.
We must also heed the mistake that helped put Ipswich in trouble years ago. George Burley had done a magnificent job in getting us to 5th in the top division. The following year lots of new faces were brought in and they failed to gel quickly enough so we were relegated.
Sometimes coming away from Portman Road after a 1-0 win under Mccarthy the supporters would discuss what they were doing that week instead of talking about the match they had just watched.
I know we can't always win + entertain but continuous boring football is just mind numbing and was reflected in our attendances.
Shame cos I really liked Kyle Edwards. He was electric and got you off your seat.
He was also a fun guy, always laughing so good for the dressing room.
As another poster said he doesn't suit McKenna's style. McK. prefers to get through the opposition by passing to the man in space rather than dribbling through.
Given that it's best the Kyle moves on and gets games.
He was there today but as you say he didn't get any minutes and as far as I know is not injured. Did a few autographs but stopped unlike Burgess and Broadhead who went round the pitch. I'm also told he didn't get on the team bus afterwards.
If anything is going on I would be sorry to lose him as he's quite a character and a great player but he would fetch quite a price so maybe ITFC are tempted.
My guess is there will be about 10 players moved on and I think the midfield will be strengthened heavily. Probably about 5 experienced coming in plus a couple of youngsters. More than I thought at first so it could be another busy summer for the recruitment team.
My thoughts : Leigh - decent back up but may want more game time. Ndaba - chances limited Baggott - Maybe stay on loan Evans - Ok but Luongo has raised the bar so better quality required now Ball - Never let us down but older so KM may want younger Camara - Seems ok but Its not worked for him Harper - League 1 rather than championship player El Mizouni - loan or transfer. Harness - Good player but may want more game time Edwards - Love him but again he may want more game time Ahadme - Hasn't really worked out Pigott - Good player - could get some money back Yengi - bit of an unknown t me so not sure
Whatever we do I can see a back to back promotion on the cards.
Always think Millsy is overlooked and as you say wouldn't it be great to give somebody a statue in their lifetime?
He still lives in the area and is a regular on BBC Suffolk's football commentary.
He was our ever present captain during out most iconic times , FA Cup , EUFA Cup , First Division runner-up: 1980—81, 1981—82 and Second Division: 1967—68. Not to mention he's an MBE and England International and captain.
Surely he's due a statue at some time. Why not while he's alive!
Myself and others took flak and the doubters said be careful what you wished for.
Well yesterday was exactly what we wished for.
Owners that care and take the club forward. (Gamechanger v 'absent' Evans)
A progressive manager (Mckenna v 'died in the wool' Mccarthy, Lambert)
A team that drives forward and a solid defence (Luongo, Morsy, Woolfie v 'Sideways' Skuse and that other loser Chambers) that keeps going until literally the last minute even if they are winning comfortably.
