Striker Danny Haynes played the full 90 minutes as England's U19s lost 2-0 to Russia at Walsall's Bescot Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Town frontman was making his first start for the U19s in his third appearance for Brian Eastwick's side.
Haynes came close to scoring three times, once taking the ball too wide after rounding Russian keeper Sergey Borodin, who blocked his efforts on the other two occasions.
The game was the first of three European U19 Championship elite group qualifiers with the second against Holland at Coventry on Thursday and the third at Northampton against the Czech Republic on Sunday. The finals will be held in Austria in July.
