Reserves Win Again - Ipswich Town News

Town's reserves went top of the FA Premier Reserve League (South) with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea last night. Goals from Darren Ambrose and Matt Robinson took them ahead of Arsenal at the top of the table.

Ambrose scored just before half-time when he turned Ken Monkou (at Chelsea training to get back to fitness) and hit the net.

Town were largely in control but had to wait until the last minute for sub Robinson to snatch the second. He latched on to an error from Chelsea defender Stephen Watt to put Town further ahead.

Moments from time Chelsea's Sebastian Kneissl hit a 25-yarder that beat Mike Salmon.

Titus Bramble and Martijn Reiser were both given a rest during the second half, Bramble coming off at half-time while Reuser player 65 minutes.

Dale Roberts was pleased with his lads: "There were a lot of good performances; Thomas Gaardsøe had probably his best game for us marshalling a very young defence once Titus went off.

"Erdem Artun came on and did very well while Matthew Richards and Chris Hogg [in for the injured Justin Miller] played well in defence.

"Ashley Nicholls was outstanding, we pressed young Will Snowdon into midfield while Darren Ambrose was superb yet again."

Town meet Arsenal's reserves on Wednesday and will look to Spurs beating Derby tonight. Town are currently two points ahead of Arsenal with a better goal difference and two games in hand. The Blues are three points ahead of Derby with one game in hand.

Side: Salmon, Bramble (Artun 46), Richards, Snowdon, Hogg, Gaardsøe, Ambrose, Nicholls, Logan (Robinson 85), Reuser (Dickinson 65), Le Pen.
