Colourful Debut For Wright - Ipswich Town News

Richard Wright finally became Town's first full England international in 14 years when he lined up for the game in Malta on Saturday.

The Town keeper 'enjoyed' an interesting afternoon during which he gave away two dodgy penalties, saving the second and having the first rebound off the post, onto his head and into the net.The similarities with Wembley have been widely pointed out.

He also made another very important save in the closing stages in a largely pointless, dull and thoroughly unimpressive game. Wright has said he is glad to have got his first game for England out of the way.

Matt Holland helped Ireland to a 2-2 draw with Mexico in Chicago last night. Holland won his second cap and played the full 90 minutes.

Manu Thetis has said he doubts he'll stay with Town beyond the end of his contract. The Frenchman is still tied to the Blues until the end of next season and is believed to be on quite a wad of cash after his cheap move from Sevilla last season. The 28-year-old cost Town just £50,000.

The club may try to cash in on him before his contract is up and significantly there are no reports of any new contract being offered. He will be available on a Bosman free at the end of next season.

The David Holdsworth to Town story is still going strong after a couple of weeks and there may well be truth in it. Other links include Southend's 27-year-old Welsh defender Nathan Jones. Charlton are also mentioned in connection with him.

Mickey Stockwell has been linked with a move to Rushden and Diamonds. The Northamptonshire side are managed by Brian Talbot and would be able to offer Mickey a lot more cash than Colchester United who have also been quoted as being interested. Mickey said at the weekend that he is going to think about his options for the time being.
