Bent in U21 Squad - Ipswich Town News

Town striker Darren Bent is in the England U21 squad facing Wales and Azarbaijan next week. Neither Ian Westlake nor Matt Richards are included, both players having been involved with Peter Taylor's squad earlier in the season.

Westlake has complained of tireness in recent weeks and will probably benefit from the two-week gap between Sunday's match with Coventry and the next home game on October 16th against Burnley.

Full-back Matt Richards has been out of the Town side recently due to a cut to the foot sustained in his England U21 debut against the Ukraine at Middlesbrough in August. His return to action earlier this week probably came too late for a call into this squad.

Striker Darren Bent will hope to add to the six goals he has scored in his last 121 minutes of U21 action. He must be in with a chance of getting his first start, all eight of his caps so far have been as a sub.

Peter Taylor's side meet Wales at Blackburn's Ewood Park on Tuesday and then travel to Azarbaijan for a game a week later.

Bent will come up against team-mate Lewis Price in the Ewood Park game, the keeper is currently the number one in the Welsh squad.

England U21s: Lee Camp (Derby County), Scott Carson (Leeds United), Andrew Lonergan (Preston NE), Leighton Baines (Wigan Athletic), Calum Davenport (West Ham Utd), Daniel Harding (Brighton HA), Adam Hinshelwood (Brighton HA), Nicky Hunt (Bolton Wanderers), Glen Johnson (Chelsea), Matthew Kilgallon (Leeds United), Steven Taylor (Newcastle United), Stewart Downing, (Middlesbrough), James Milner (Newcastle United), Gary O'Neil (Cardiff City), Jermaine Pennant (Arsenal), Nigel Reo-Coker (West Ham United,), John Welsh (Liverpool), Peter Whittingham (Aston Villa), Dean Ashton (Crewe Alexandra), Darren Bent (Ipswich Town), David Bentley (Norwich City), Carlton Cole (Aston Villa), Jonathan Stead (Blackburn Rovers).
